UK iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Thread

Does anybody know the best outlet around London to queue up on Friday in terms of chances of landing an iPhone ?and does reserving in store guarantee you will get one ?

.

A question for the Three dudes here: I'm on a iPhone 5 at the moment. I rarely get 4G with Three. Will I notice more coverage on the 6? I believe it covers more bands than the 5?

Not really, Three (and EE) are still only using 1800MHz for 4G, this will change in the near future though as both are beginning the rolling out of 800MHz 4G, so in the future an iPhone 5 user would see a weaker network, but what your 5 currently sees is what's available.

iPhone 6 Plus 64GB Gold

hi folks, i have reserved an iPhone as described in the title to be collected from the brae head store in glasgow on the 19th. i done this in a panic when the apple store was having issues coming online to pre order but as i already have one pre ordered and going to be delivered on the 19th, I'm wondering if anyone who hasn't already ordered one yet would like to have this one?

cheers

It did, but you are a few days too late, the reservations system sold out early yesterday.

Your only chance now is to queue.

I'm going to the store on Friday but not until 11. By that time I expect all to be sold out so Saturday? Forget it.

I'm going on Saturday to have a look at both models on display. If I could but one that would be fantastic but I know I probably won't. However looking at the 2 displays will help me decide which one to order online when I get back.

FYI. Just requested new nano sim as my current one is too old for 4G usage?! (O2). Guy in O2 queried my request as in Cardiff-which doesn't have O2 4G coverage. I explained that I want to be prepared AND suprisingly that I use the phone outside of Wales!!! I asked what the official O2 line on 4G in Wales was...his response was " was supposed to arrive by October, but looking at being available by the end of the year". Not sure if this is credible or if this will just be the South East (Cardiff and alike)?

Hi mate, I'm with O2 as well and I queried on the forum the other day whether or not I would need a new sim to use 4G, but was told my old iPhone 5 nano sim would be fine to continue using because 4G is based on the iPhone's hardware not the sim?!?! Did you have a nano sim previously?

If anyone else can clear this up for me I would appreciate it. I haven't changed my sim since I converted to nano sim with the iPhone 5, and I've only ever used 3G. Will my 2 year old nano sim be able to access 4G data or do I need a newer one for the iPhone 6?

I'm with Three. I tried an EE sim, the 4G speeds were great, up to 20mb. I was getting 10-15mb on 3G with Three. I noticed with EE that when it dropped to 3G the speeds were a lot slower than with Three 3G, around 4mb. If you can get a constant EE 4G signal it's probably great. Though I noticed I got 1 bar all the time with EE on 4G and it was a bit delayed swapping to 3G. Decided to stick with Three.

If you get bad coverage on Three remember there is no 2G backup anymore. EE jumped to T-mobile and Orange.

I believe that iPhone 6 wide band coverage is important for connecting to 4G in different regions of the world instead of better 4g connectivity in the UK. If your iPhone 5 connects to a given band in the UK, iPhone 6 will probably do the same. The 4G connection range will depend more on your network (carrier). Of course, the 4g technology on the i6 was improved, but I don´t think it will affect the connection range.

I called Three this morning about a contract alteration, and mentioned SWMBO needed a nano sim as she was upgrading from a 4S. The lady at Three support suggested going into a Three Store and that they would be able to give you a replacement nano-sim with the same number that would activate right away. There's a cost of about £5.70 or something close to that, can't remember the exact figure.

I'm going to wait till our phones arrive, then I'll offer to cut her sim down to a nano and see if that works. If not we're straight off to the Three store for the replacement. I wouldn't bother to try cutting it if I didn't already have a sim cutter. :)

I nipped in to the local three store at lunchtime to ask. The nice bloke said they'd sort one out there and then if I had some ID to verify I was the contract holder. All done in 5 minutes and they chucked in an adapter to use in the iPhone 4. New SIM was activated 20 minutes later.

No charge, although I've got a receipt for £5.something that was discounted instore.

Any other Three customers here?

Ordered from Three on Saturday morning (I tried Friday but the site was down for so long) as an upgrade via online service. iPhone 6 Space Grey 64GB. Went through fine.

Delivery date on my account/the email they sent currently says 19th September but I've seen about 4/5 people's get changed to the 3rd after calling them to confirm?

I havent phoned them to confirm the date as I'm paranoid this will jinx it into changing to the 3rd. I'm hoping their online 'listing' for the delivery date on my account is accurate/updated ad-hoc, and stays as the 19th. I've been keeping an eye on their reps sending out tweets. One of them said that (in response to a similar question) if it was going to be changed, they'd have done it by now.

That being said, still hearing horror stories of dates getting pushed back even after the initial 19/9 confirmation. If you try and buy one now as a new customer it says 3rd October or later, model dependent.

I know at this point calling them probably wont make a difference other than confirming good/bad news, but yeah. As it happens I'm not working on Friday so I guess I'll just wait for the delivery notification text from DPD (their usual company). If nothing then I guess it's the 3rd!

Thanks, thinking of going sim only now but unfortunately they only go up to 4gb for sim only.Do you know if anybody in the uk got a 19/9delivery date for iPhone 6 plus from apple as I ordered around 9 ( despite having been up since 6 refreshing every gadget I had)and got October

Themacdaddyios is your name Steve or Caroline ?

Actually ordered one Friday morning showing 3-4 weeks but wondering if I could get one earlier hassle free without wasting my time queuing for nothing

Has anyone else had problems after ordering through the Apple Store with financing? I got my order for a silver 64GB iPhone 6 through just after 9am on the 12th, but because Barclays were so inundated with applications it took them until Saturday night to send the final email to confirm my finance. I called them and they said everyone was in the same boat.

My order is still showing as 'awaiting payment' on the Apple Store. I called them yesterday and they said they knew the finance was approved and the status wasn't updating because of the volume of applications being approved by Barclays. I'm getting a bit worried that because of the status not changing and Barclays being slow I'll not be getting it in the first batch and I'll have to wait the 4-6 weeks.

(possible) good news for 3 customers

Re watched the keynote and at the section about volte it said the Hutchinson group were working on it. That is what we call 3 in the uk. And a quick search at other Hutchinson and 3 carriers around the world, namely Hong Kong had the option of providing volte.

While this no way guarantees anything it COULD be inferred that 3 will implement here in the uk sooner than later

I was in the same position. Phoned O2, they said I needed a new one-messed sending me a new one UP (ordered me a micro and then two nanos to a very old address). So I went in to the store to save hassle. Whether the old one would have worked or not I don't know for sure. The new one has 4G printed on it (the old one didn't) and the receipt (although FOC) says POST UNIVERSAL 4G NANO SIM. It only took a few minutes to activate activate so was happy to have a new one.

I ordered the 64GB iPhone 6 in Space Grey on Friday, about 6pm, via their website. Email stated 19th as estimated delivery. Just phoned them and they confirmed it's showing as 19th, and should be that day. The people that are getting pushed back seem to be those that ordered later on.

Give them a ring. They'll tell you when to expect it. :)

I got the same one but in gunmetal, because it was in stock and I think it will work well with the black/slate version. Clear cases get dirt trapped behind and need constant cleaning IMO.

I had a clear case before with my iphone 5 and it was fine, nothing can get trapped in because its a thin tpu material so it hugs the phone pretty well.

It's in their interest in the UK. Their original network was 3G only, they were buying in GSM/2G services from O2 as fallback if memory serves. I think that's now with EE as part of the mast-sharing.

Don't ring and hope for the best - not that it's likely to make much difference. :p Good luck.
