I got 4G in New Orleans roaming with Three

In the US, some networks state 4G on the phone, but you're not actually receiving LTE. It's 3G.

UK iPhone models cannot use LTE in the US on most of the networks, due to them using different LTE frequencies. The iPhone 6 has more bands, but I'm not sure if the UK model support US LTE frequencies. Might have to look into that...

Guys,

Whats the fastest way to pre-order? I start work at 7am tomorrow and will be at work when the 8am pre-order starts.

I will have to sneak into the men's toilets and place my order as employees are not allowed to carry their phones with them on their person when working. Even then, the 3G signal is very weak. And yes, I'm being serious.

I've never ordered with the Apple Store app. Is there an option to pay with an alternative card other than the one registered to your Apple ID at the checkout?

Thanks

Has anyone tested Three's data in the States? Do you get 4G if it's available?

I've used it twice, once in NYC and once across Florida.

Signal was strong 3G in NYC.

Signal in and around Disney was 3G in Florida, when I moved out of the central area it was edge.

Overall a great experience (especially when it's free!) - I used around 2GB on my two weeks in FL and even more in NYC (maps etc are useful) however don't expect speeds above 0.5mb!

In comparison, EE charge £40 per 500mb!

It's pretty annoying that the carriers leave it until the time of sale to give prices. Makes it very hard for customers to compare (I guess they don't want competition/undercutting).

I'll just pre-order with apple at 8am, then give Three a call (for some reason my online account won't let me upgrade). If they offer something decent I'll cancel the pre-order. If they don't/I can't get through in a decent amount of time, I'll just stick with my £15 a month one plan sim and keep my unlimited tethering. If the 5S is anything to go by, there's hardly any difference between buying it outright + sim only vs contract.

Agreed highly Annoying

It's all the same data from your account. I changed my card details via the website and when I checked the app it had the same new card on it.

As an aside, if you have updated your credit card details recently, it may be worth going onto the iTunes or App Store and buying something cheap (even a free app may do it). You will get asked to confirm your card security. Better to do that now than at 8am tomorrow.

Save your Credit Card details, and when you go back in to check your details again, just enter your card security code and this confirms it.

Thanks, getting married in NY in 5 weeks and wanted to use the phone to stream it to family back here.

I can confirm this - it works great, but 3G only and speeds seem to be capped. Can't complain for free though (compared to the £75 bill I got from O2 for a weekend in Rome a couple of years back!)

Hey guys, lurked MacRumors for a long time, thought I'd share what I am doing regarding the new iPhone.

For the phone itself, I'm pre-ordering the iPhone 6, 64GB, Silver, straight from Apple tomorrow morning.
I also found a great SIM, 12-month contract from Three: 2GB data (tethering allowed), 200 minutes and unlimited texts for £10 a month!

In my previous 2 year contract with my iPhone 5 (on Three), I never went over 2GB of data usage, even though I had All-You-Can-Eat (unlimited) data. I do not require a lot of call time and most plans have unlimited texts.

If you work out the price in terms of 2 years, it works out to be: (619+(10*24)) £859 all in. Now if you divide that by 24 months, you get just under £36 a month. I don't think your going to beat that when they release the tarrifs and up-front cost tomorrow!

Now, you compare this with a year old iPhone 5S, 32GB (middle tier storage, just like the 64GB I am choosing for the iPhone 6), Silver, the numbers are quite interesting! With this configuration of iPhone, a 24 month contract with 1GB of data, unlimited minutes and unlimited texts is £38 a month! You also need to factor in the up-front cost of £29 for the phone and this works out to £941.

The only difference between these two contracts (the phones are essentially the same, just one is a year older) is unlimited minutes in the 5S contract compared to 200 minutes in my next contract, and half as much data in the 5S contract!

If you don't really care about minutes, and 2GB is enough for you, I don't think your going to find a better deal!

I'm in the exact same position as you. EXACTLY.

I plan on buying the phone directly with Apple at 8am tomorrow, then calling up Three after work to buy the SIM-Only plan you suggested. My reason for calling up and not ordering online is that I'm hoping I'll be able to keep my current nano-SIM, which can go straight into my iPhone 6 and they'll just update the plan on that SIM. That way I'll have the same number etc. Think that'll work?

The only thing thats perhaps stopping me from buying the phone from Apple at 8am is if I call them after work (not able to til about 4pm) - do you think they may be able to offer me a cheaper deal as i've been with them two years? I agree £859 is fantastic, but does anyone think you'll be able to get anything cheaper?

so its now 00:06am in Australia, on the 12th September..

No iPhone pre-order, so i think it'll be 00:01 Cupertino time, which equates to 08:01 UK time.

Is it possible to cancel your pre-order once you've done it? If so, how?

Funny none of them have pricing, maybe apple hasn't finalised pricing with them?

I am sure they will have too, a lot of iPhone users i'd imagine will complain for being excluded out off :apple:Pay feature... I think i'll be one of those people feeling left out and will complain about it.

No. Would cause mayhem on the tube. From the videos looks like :apple:pay takes about 5secs. That's about 4.5secs too long.

More like they want you to make a rash decision and not shop around

Nudging me towards buying directly from Apple and going for a SIM only contract. I noticed after keynote there was a 12 month interest free offer, but that seems to be gone now.

I'm taking Three's £10 a month plan as well, SIM only.

I "upgraded" my current sim/number to the new plan. You don't need to buy a new SIM, they can apply the new plan to your current number/sim as long as you are out of contract etc.

Then I'm buying the iPhone 6 16GB tomorrow morning for £539. Total cost over 2 years: £779.

When the iPhone 6 comes, Three told me to pop in to the local store in order to get a nano-sim. That's all there is to it.

Do you not have a nano-sim with your current phone then? My iPhone 5 already has one, so would I still need to go to the Three store to get a new one?

Thanks.

does anyone think that if Apple are offing a pre-order reserve and collect, they must have plenty of stock in their inventory?!

(positive thinking)

No I'm using an iPhone 3GS as a temporary until I get the 6. I have a standard SIM size (I know its old)...

You can use your current iPhone 5 nano-sim in the 6. Just call Three tomorrow and get the £10 plan applied to your account!

I just thought: What if I fail the credit check with Three?

I graduated in July, and don't start my new job until the end of September, so am technically unemployed.

Eeek!

Same here ... I'll just be popping the sim out of 5S and into 6 - did it (with cut down tool) from 4S also. Absolutely no down time :)

Ugh pretty shoddy from these networks! I think I am just going to bed. Up at 5 anyway, so I will be alive and kicking for the pre-orders

At the point in time I am toying with the idea of probably getting if offline straight from Apple. I want the 4GB 6 Plus, and I doubt they will be THAT popular, so I may just wait until the end of the month if I feel any of the networks are screwing people over.

My limit per month is still £35, for at least 4/5GB 4G data and an upper limit of £300 for the phone upfront, if I pre-order tomorrow.

If I don't see anything, then I will just wait until pay day at the end of the month, get it offline and get Three's £18 deal for unlimited data and 600 mins.

Bit annoying this!
