Apologies to bump my own post, but I think it may have been lost amongst all this delivery notification chat.

I think I may order an iPhone 6S+ from John Lewis and play with it over the weekend with my three sim. Will this affect my returns options if I don't get on with it? The network locking has worried me.

I'll just keep my 6S from Apple boxed up and ready to go as a backup.

Cheers

I might be wrong but if you put a sim in and it locks, then you might have a problem returning it. You would have to get it unlocked and depends how long that will take. Bearing in mind that it can take a few days.

If you buy an unsubsidised iPhone from any retailer other than Apple your phone, even though it will accept any SIM, will then become locked to that Network. i.e. a £700 6S+ 64GB iPhone from John Lewis will become locked to Lyca Mobile the moment you put one of their SIM cards into it.

Look it up.

Read the post and quote through - it IS locked first time you insert a SIM if you buy from anywhere BUT Apple Store. Yes, your 5s would have been SIM free and unlocked because it was bought from Apple direct.

Buying anywhere else? It'll most likely lock to the first SIM inserted, which is incredibly disappointing of Apple (who implement it, not networks) as Benny_G said.

Please, stop posting incorrect info. All you are doing is perpetuating the myth.

Up till now the ONLY retailer who sold "locks to first sim" sim free iPhones was CarPhoneWarehouse, this has changed with the John Lewis offer (perhaps they are sourcing stock via CPW).

Network stock is locked to the network, except for Three and Giffgaff who sell unlocked phones just like Apple do (if you buy sim free).

Just an FYI for anyone in Northern Ireland, Ive just spoken to UK mail who have advised that their service to NI is a 48 hour one so unlikely our phones will arrive tomorrow :( :( I kind of don't mind as i'm working nightshift tonight and tomorrow but i'm sure others will mind very much!

If thats the case there will be at least one very disgruntled call to the Apple UK Store reps tomorrow, however I hold out hope as I have received a text from UK mail tracking system this morning advising a delivery Friday

My status has updated to 'Shipment Dispatched'. Wondering what time my 6s will arrive tomorrow. Hopefully the morning. Anyone else with the same status or managed to receive their phone early because of a shipment glitch? My confirmation says tomorrow via UPS... Only thing is, when I pump the tracking number into the UPS website...... they have NO tracking info on their system (--_--)

Still absolutely nothing from Carphone Warehouse!

I've just received my despatch email and DPD tracking number. Doesn't show up on DPD's site yet but the email says it'll be available from tomorrow morning.

Hopefully everyone will get theirs shortly.

If your tracking number begins with 1AZ (or something like that) then it's definitely a UPS number. It won't show up in their system for a little while

Can't get into Apple's online recycling website at the moment. Hope this is no a sign that they are updating (ie lowering trade in prices for tomorrow). Am planning to trade in hubbies old 16gb 4 for a£25 giftcard against my purchase tomorrow! Should have taken it in last week so I had the card ready to use.............

atrevers, I don't see how that's possible without a backup? Could you explain it a bit more please? It sounds like an ideal solution! Just not sure how to do it...

It just changes the OS version, leaving all contents and settings in place - you just put it into DFU mode without first wiping anything and then it updates the firmware. Very simple!
