anyone else added applecare +?

I am on the fence about whether to add it today when i go to an apple store....

at £79 it was a no brainer but at £109 I am questioning it a bit. I know an out of warranty repair is £256 so for that it makes sense, buts it the old "I havent needed it before" syndrome. However I work on building sites a lot so perhaps having the accidental damage is a good idea?

someone convince me to do it please!!

p.s. wow this threads has slowed to a crawl (predictably)

Yes! Going to buy it in Apple Store on Monday

My phones just turned up. To be fair Ukmail turned up on time yesterday(tracking from work) and today so no complaints there. I am getting applecare+, no way i am taking a chance with a 699 phone.

I'm in the same boat. I didn't even miss a delivery. I was waiting all day with the tracking website saying it was out for delivery, then at 8pm it was delayed after no delivery attempt was even made and supposedly it won't be redelivered until Monday. I wish I knew what was going on! :(

My family waited in all morning then just before 11 they came and they missed them.

Its stupid that such an expensive item had a delivery time between 8am and 7pm. I managed to speak to a woman in the US last night somehow and they say Monday between 10:30 and 1:30 why did they not say that before !

No complaints from from me either. I was able to track the phones progress on the UK Mail tracker page and had a one hour window slot of 12:14 - 13:14 hrs which they kept to.
I was lucky my door bell appears to of not worked but luckily my dad was round to see him ha

Put the money aside in your bank instead. That way if you do need a deposit you can dip into that and if you don't your quids in. Don't forget you also have to pay an excess for each claim.

If your the type of person who breaks their phone each and every year then get it. If you havent broken it for years then no, it'd a waste.

Also many banks offer coverage for a fraction of the cost. Mine covers 4 gadgets for breakage AND theft and loss for just a few quid a month. But you are also covered on many home insurance policy.

Too many people buy it because they dear they won't look like a true apple fan without it.

To be fair it's not about being a fan but more my job as a tradesman. The phones used for Spotify on site and in the van etc

People (like me) buy it because I like to be safe in the knowledge that if I damage my phone, an on the spot replacement is waiting for me, wherever I may be in the UK.

I don't want to wait days/weeks while an insurance company sends it away to a non Apple repairer (and potentially invalidates the warranty) for the cheapest repair price they can get.

£109 for peace of mind is invaluable to me.

Also, if you have a screen repair it's cheaper to pay for it outright than use an applecare plan.

iPhone 6s Plus: £126.44
iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: £106.44

You say it is missing rather than damaged. My phone insurance through my bank replace within 48hrs.

Had my EE order delivered to the local EE store, to make things simple.

Oh how wrong was I! DPD refused to leave it as the EE store staff did not have my ID! Yes, apparently EE ticked the wrong box on my order so that ID was required.

This was then compounded by my order bering marked "no longer required" which meant they couldn't (computer says no) simply redirect my delivery to my home address in a few days time - I could wait!

They were, however able to sell me a new phone on the same account as they had one left in the spec/colour I wanted.

This means as of now I've paid for two phones (£90 x 2) and two monthly contracts (£55 x 2) and my wife's share-SIM cannot now be processed as I can only have two SIMs linked to my account.

I'll also lose my £97 cash-back as not now an internet order.

No offer of any some of compensation, although at least EE phone support answer the phone promptly, seem friendly and speak English.

Oh what a mess.

(Phone's quite nice though :) )

I'm not a big fan of insurance fraud, but even 2 days for a replacement phone that's potentially been refurbished by a 3rd party (& invalidates my Apple warranty) is not for me.

Or was it a brand new phone they sent you?

Eerily quiet here now :)

Tis like the Marie Celeste....or a deserted village in one of those ole Westerns. Look, a tumbleweed.

Just wanted to share my experience with UKMAIL .. Was given timeslot of 1535-1635. The phone arrived 1435 which was great but the driver just handed the parcel and left. No signature or anything. Also when I was tracking it, I was stop 117. He'd only done about 95 when the phone came. I also got a you are next text around 4pm even though I'd got the phone earlier. A bit strange I thought. Anyways I got my phone, it's awesome.

<....snip....>

Touch ID is fast, really fast.

See you all next year.

I can't help thinking some of these drivers are just abandoning the 'planned' route and if a house in in the next street they.re nipping round to do that rather than drive half way around the town then come back. Regular drivers know their rounds very well and can often do a better job of optimising it than the route planner. Now, it messes up the tracking software but if he finishes earlier what does he care? :)

I normally get the non-S, but something made me decide to get the 6S this year

Same here, but I think I'll stick with the S from now on. Unless the iPhone Upgrade Program lands here next year then I might have to think again :)

The thing with AppleCare+ is that it used to be really worth it (although I've never had it) but the costs are getting a bit too close now and it's even more of a "weigh your options" scenario. Assuming ONE phone breakage during ownership, AppleCare+ for a 6S Plus is £109 + £79 excess = £188, the £109 you've paid whether you use it or not of course. So, is it worth your gamble knowing that an out of warranty repair is £256, only an extra £68? Difficult decision. For me I take the risk, others' mileage may vary.

One of the reasons insurance costs go up is because of insurance fraud.

Also, what happens if you break it again, or have an issue in year 2?

To me, Applecare is a good thing, that's all I can really say.

LOL @ me. Had to order 2 more MediaDevil protectors as I botched both attempts with applying. Gonna have to run the shower hot and steam the bathroom up for the next attempt.

Though I'm still considering going screen-naked.

I'm really tempted by a naked screen however i know once the dirt and bits of dust get onto my phone till be scratched to bits.

I don't have any marks on my apple watch sport though.... considering its worn every day at work. In fact the only mark on the screen is from a lift door shutting on me (painfully)

I had nothing (I could see) on my 5s after 2 years. Not sure if I'm asking for trouble.

Agreed. I've never broken a phone though, so I take the risk. If I'd ever broken one then maybe I would look at things differently. If I break one once then I'm sure I'd look after it a lot better and not break it again. You could take your argument to the extreme and say, if you do get AppleCare+ and break it three times what about then? Insurance is all about risk, on both sides. It's a risk I take and to be honest my household cover covers the phone with an excess similar to the cost of AppleCare & the excess so I've got a bail out route if absolutely necessary. If I had a spare £100 at the time of purchase I'd get a 128GB instead of the 64GB :D :D :D :D

What kind of issue in Year 2? If it's a problem with the internal hardware of the phone I'm fairly sure I could get them to replace it under the Consumer Laws. Might take some fancy word wrangling, but the rights are there.
