Anyone here sending a trade in to Apple via the post? If you have AppleCare are you cancelling that now or waiting to see if any issues are reported when the trade in is processed? My iPhone is in perfect condition but there is always a risk it gets damaged when unpacked at the trade in partner.

My AppleCare coverage ends 23/09/2026 so it would have been good to cancel that today with a full 12 months remaining.

Amazon have a very good returns policy. I suspect JL do too.

I dont trust Amazon TBH - they used to be very good, not so much any more.

Purchased some AirPods from Amazon direct (not a third party seller) 2 years ago. Had an issue and went to Apple store, only to find out they had been replaced many, many times already! Turns out the Airpods were fake and using a clone serial number that had been applied to various fake Airpods, hence the high number of replacements when I went to get mine sorted.
Complained to Amazon and was able to get them refunded after 2 years! Purchased more from Apple direct instead!

Returned a £400 camera to Amazon.
They accepted the return of course, so I carefully packaged back in original packaging - all as new.
Dropped off at the drop off point they had requested.
Refund was processed back to my card.
A week or two later received an email from Amazon saying they received a box with a coffee mug - and to send the camera back for refund or they would charge my card again.
I argued that I had sent the camera as promised - went back and forward a few exchanges - and informed them I do not authorise any charges to my card.
They dropped the matter in the end.
Most likely the parcel was opened somewhere along the line and the item replaced - completely out of my control (and Amazons) but they just didnt want to even consider this - in their eyes it was my fault and I was trying to defraud them.

Hence I am now careful with any high value items from Amazon - I dont trust them at all - even Amazon direct.

When you Trade In, you obviously have to de-register your iPhone from your Apple ID, which also means it's not "Find My iPhone" enabled. AppleCare requires your phone to be linked to your Apple account and "Find My iPhone" enabled. Therefore, no real point in renewing your Applecare for the trade-in aspect as the policy won't be valid. Apple trade-in should be totally fine if your phone is in good condition, unlike some of the other "big name" companies that buy and sell iPhones who actively look for the minutest flaw and send you a ridiculous revised offer.

Anyone know the situation with the regular 17 and sim card slot in the UK.

It was my understanding the UK version was with the sim card, yet Sky are offering you the choice of either a physical SIM or eSIM when you select your phone contract. Am I being optimistic that if I select eSIM I'll get an eSIM version of the iPhone?

I would expect you will get an iPhone with a physical SIM tray as that’s the specification for UK models. Many UK operators offer eSIM but still provide the UK version of the iPhone which had a tray.

As I expected. I’ll ask them just to confirm but no point getting eSIM if the phone is just going to sit with an empty SIM card slot and no extra battery.

I do find it strange given the Air is eSIM only we don’t get the option for eSIM versions of the other phones. It’s something like a 7% battery increase on the regular 17 so not to be sniffed at.

Finally arrived at around 3pm today. Absolutely loving the colour and also feel in the hand of the phone having come from 15PM. All set up phone to phone with no issues including Vodafone eSIM transfer. Trying to decide between the Torras Originfit case on left and Shieldon leather case on right. Edging towards the Torras as it is thinner and has a nicer feel.

I ordered my daughter an iPhone 17 from Argos due to be delivered today by Yodel.
Got the confirming delivery and waited in all day for nothing.
Phoned Argos and they admitted they took orders when they had no stock and had no idea when the delivery would be.
Now I have to wait days for a refund from a company which took my order knowing full well they couldn’t fulfil it.
Won’t ever be using Argos again.
Placed the order with Apple now and delivery estimate of October.

I think JL expect things to be returned unopened….
Regardless of JL online policy, UK customers by law are allowed to open and inspect an item purchased online.
(different if it’s software etc)

Within 14 days you are allowed to contact the company and cancel the contract with no reason given

This is regards to the UK distance selling regulations.

I’ve pulled up a couple companies about this who give me ‘but our policy states..’ etc etc, I then inform them regardless of your companies policy, the UK Law overrules your policy…and they have backed down every time!
