Old Chinese saying "When you getting too big only way to go is down". This only the begining of things coming. We hope they not lose so much moneys they have to close some of their stores or maybe they can selling other phones and make it paying the bills

RIGHT! They should all be forced to go back to 4th grade and learn how to write like a nine year old!

I'm not sure how you missed my humor, but good work.

Here, I'll explain it to you. The judge said the Samsung "wasn't as cool as the iPad."

THAT'S NOT LEGALESE, IT'S ACTUALLY A VERY VAGUE, UNCLEAR DISTINCTION.

The joke was.. you know what, never mind. You wouldn't get it.

Due to this issue, I personally have purchased what I believe to be the best products and have ruled out Samsung:

1. Sony Bravia HDTV -- while high-end Samsung products seem to a very close tie, I choose Sony
2. ViewSonic LED monitor (for PC) -- while most all stores stock and push Samsung
3. Panasonic cordless phones -- not sure if Samsung makes them, but refrained from another AT&T set (~ 2-4 year lifespan based on last 2 sets)
4. Apple iMac -- no substitute!
5. Toshiba laptops -- no Samsung PC's

Bottom line: vote with your dollars. Your purchase helps fund the companies you believe in so they prosper and continue to make more products you like. Reward good behavior.

I would suggest that Samsung would very happy with your approach since virtually all of your purchases are full of Samsung components.

Apple is a slimy company. There are so many other iPad look-a-likes from some well know manufacturers, but yet apple seems to go after Samsung or Motorola. When Huawei released a phone back in 2009 that was oh so similar to the iPhone, did apple sue? Hell no. And Huawei wasn't a big company but they were pretty well known in the Android community. So if they always pick on Samsung and Motorola you should automatically realise they're afraid of the competition. But wait you iSheep are too blind to see that. Btw the only thing the ipad has that is better than the galaxy tab are apps. We all know ios has good apps that's about it. That's the only place that where they beat out Android. They're a joke they'll put LTE in their tablet but not their phone. Lololololololol.

Any court of law would have jurisdiction over any individual or company that does business there.

What I do wonder, and my apologies if this has already been raised, is if by complying with this ruling, would Apple be putting themselves in a position of self incriminating themselves in the view of the US courts? Samsung could argue that since Apple admitted to wrongdoing in the UK courts, that this could be precedent. Lawyers, Apple lawyers, your opinion?

I was wondering this myself. While Samsung's lawyers may bring attention to the fact, I don't see the decision having any real or direct bearing on the same suit in the U.S. I believe there could easily be two totally opposite rulings.

I do own a Samsung phone (long story, the phone is an GT-S7500) and it is a ballant iPhone rip off. Even the status bar goes green when you are in a call. It's a completely ruined android experience. And guess what you get stuck on gingerbread. For anyone who owned an iPhone (I owned the first gen) you feel strangely at home.

Did the judge see the ice cream sandwich settings on a Xoom and on a Samsung tablet? I don't think so, since on the Samsung one it looks like the settings on my iPad.

I fail to see Samsung innovations as a consumer, on the back end that's another story. And I'm not even defending apple.

Now since when apple advertised that Samsung has been copying them? Now advertising another company products that's just stupid I hope they show how crappy some are.

This wasn't what the lawsuit and ruling were about. This was about hardware design, a ruling based on Apple's Community Design Registration and about the physical appearence of both products, namely the Galaxy Tab and iPad.

So no, the judge did not see Ice Cream Sandwich settings on a Xoom because it had nothing to do with the current ruling or case, something you would know had to you had bothered to read the articles before commenting. And frankly, if you think Ice Cream Sandwich looks anything like iOS, something is definately wrong.

Which Samsung tablet has setting that looks like the iPad ones?

I dunno which settings he's talking about since tablets run the stock Android GUI and the settings don't look anything like iOS settings :

Unless he means they look the same because they have a menu on the left and the pref pane on the right... like about every other settings menu/screen made in the last 10-15 years. The KDE Control Center from KDE 2 is a good example :

You and your fancy arguments based on truth. How dare you?!

Hum, last I checked this story is about Apple...

Strange, given it seems a lot of people seem to be bashing Apple. Let's just agree that Apple didn't create the iPad or iPod or iPhone or MacBook Air or iMac. They just copied Samsung. And of course they copied Google too. And they should be looked down upon for defending their patents because they are doing so while they should be spending their time and money innovating like Samsung is. And quite frankly they should be bowing down to Samsung for all the things Samsung has provided them. Apple is clearly biting the hand that feeds it.

Hence, this site should be www.samsungrumors.com

I don't quite get where you're going. Reading over the license agreement for my MacBook Air or iPhone, I don't see the clause that says buying the devices and using the installed software requires me to agree with every word Apple puts in their lawsuit complaints...

What are you saying exactly ? And what Apple bashing ? Seems to me people are just commenting how Apple greatly exagerates their complaints to make it seem like there's copying and infringement where now 2 EU courts have ruled that there is not.

Yeah - let's be overly dramatic about not everyone bowing before Apple. That sounds productive...

Where?

And, a company can't be criticized?

Let's count the posts here. Yes, every company can be criticized for something. But again, unless this is actually a Samsung enthusiast community, not an Apple enthusiast site, I'm not understanding why people are on here complaining that Apple didn't create the iPad or iOS or that they shouldn't be defending their patents or whatever people seem to have an issue with Apple doing.

----------

Do you make friends so you can tell them everything they do wrong? Join a church or social group to complain about them and how they're not doing things right? If you have issues with Apple, that's your right. Perhaps you should Go and support Samsung on their community enthusiast website.

Most of what I see is people saying that Apple did not invent the tablet. Nor did they invent the smartphone. Both of which are true.

And, just because I own a couple of Apple products, does not mean I have to support their bogus lawsuits.

This is an Apple user site, not an "enthusiast site". I for one will not deny reality because I happen to own products made by Apple. Apple has a right to defend their IP, but I also have a right to not agree that their IP is even valid all the time. They have some good patents and they have a few bad ones.

'607 is especially bad. First, there's tons of prior art, next it's an obvious design for tablets, and it's way too broad to even be applicable. There is no reason for me to cry for them over their loss here, they had it coming.

What's wrong with a little objectivity ? I'm not cheering for Samsung, I'm not bashing Apple and vice versa.

Do you make friends so you can tell them everything they do wrong?

A faceless corporation that is publicaly traded and only out there to get money from you is not your friend. I don't owe Apple anything more than the MSRP they ask for their products. After I paid, I get to use the product and don't have to give anything back to them.

Again, why are you making this into a black and white issue ? You're saying we can't use Apple products and disagree with something Apple does ? It's all or nothing with Apple ? You have to go as far as deny reality because you use their products ?

Is that a strawman I see ?

lol .... hmm ok dude

hey guys mega corps are your friend

Is this comparision for real?

Why I have to go to a Samsung site if I have to critizice Apple? Perhaps to critizice my problem with a Sony Ericsson phone I have to go to a Nokia forum. Or can I bring my problems with it here?

Since when is stating factual information considered "bashing" Apple.

Facts are facts.

Did I type something wrong? Is this www.samsungrumors.com?

I was going to say is this Engadget.com? Or people are getting paid good dough by poor little Sansung to come here and defend them. :D

Anyway back to the original topic, when did Apple ever mention Samsung on their website or in print advertising? When were they convicted in a court of law of committing libel against Samsung? What evidence is there that this lawsuit has caused a damaging impression or damaged Samsung's brand in any way? Last time I checked Samsung is doing quite well and the Galaxy S III was the top selling smartphone in UK. Requiring Apple to esentially give Samsung free advertising on their website and in the papers is ridiculous. They sued, they lost. It's been reported in the papers and online. Not sure what the point of this is other than wanting to shame Apple or make them out to look like a bully. But I can think of a lot worse things a company could do than filing lawsuits over perceived patent infringements.

Who here is suggesting Apple invented the tablet or smartphone? I hate whe people create strawmans so they can knock them down.

It's called deterrence. The judge wants to penalize Apple for what he may consider frivolous lawsuits. Losing a case isn't a deterrent. Having a penalty attached to the loss is.

If enforced (and not overturned in an appeal) - it won't look good for Apple if they have to keep apologizing publicly. And that's the point of the "punishment" as far as I can tell.
