If they are all in Scotland, perhaps they 'forgot' to stock an Apple Store North of the Border and needed to free some up? Perhaps forgot to stock a reseller?

BTW the shipping time is now 2-3 weeks! Feeling rather pleased that I stay up late on Wednesday night.

People are reporting that their order status is changing to "preparing for shipment".

I suspect that explains the timing of the emails earlier today. My guess (and it is just a guess) is that they are getting them ready somewhere and were dealing with over orders in specific products. Those that got the email were the unlucky ones.

If I'm right then they seem to have decided on some areas to be hit, rather than what would appear to have been fairer, time ordered.

It would explain why the delay is a few days, rather than just one day that would seem more likely for courier problems.

I may be totally wrong of course.

If that is the case, and it does sound plausible, then I think it is appalling that if they have said that they need to "lose some orders" and arbitrarily decide that orders to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Cornwall are "expendable" and can be delayed, irrespective of when the orders were placed, is very poor, and shows signs of a company that is becomming too big for it's boots, and doesn't really care about it's customers anymore...they are just merely a cash source.

Disappointing Apple, very disappointing :(

I've got delivery for March 16th and 'preparing for shipment'! I'm definitely getting it next Friday then! :D

Remember, it's just speculation.

It's not speculation that my order placed at 2am has been put back by 5 days though, despite orders for the same product being placed 12 hours later being prepared for shipment, and delivery listed for the 16th.

That is confirmed...

Agreed, but there may be a more acceptable reason for that.

I can't think of what it may be, but perhaps there is.

My order 16Gb White Wifi no engraving. UK

Now says "Ships: 30 Mar, 2012 Delivers 02 Apr, 2012"

Oh well....

I thought I'd update people on my order status.

I was lucky to process the order before the website went down. I decided to order another one the day after.

it seems that the one I ordered first is still "Processing" and the later one is "Ready for Dispatch"

They're both going to the same address, (Manchester)

There doesn't seem any logic for which ones get processed first!

I just ordered a black 64gb wifi, and it says the same - dispatched 30th march and delivered 2nd april. Problem is that I go home for Easter break from Uni on the 30th, so I've just had to change the shipping address to my home address. How likely are the Apple store in Bath (where I go to University) to have stock on the opening day, or even after that? Would I realistically be able to walk in and pick one up before I go home on the 30th?

Don't look for logic at this point, you won't see any.

The main thing is that you are in the batch. How things are dealt with now is not related to ordering dates.

It may be wrong, but my idea of what is happening now is that there are separate teams dealing with packing and labelling shipments. They have piles of iPads, and sheets of labels and are putting the two together and scanning them.

They certainly aren't worrying about doing this in order that items were ordered. If you missed the original batch then your label won't be here. If you got in in time then it will.

They should all get on the transport. The order things happen here is irrelevant.

Edit to say that your reporting of the more recent order being processed first isn't unusual. It is probably explained by people taking label sheets from the top of the print run. It's probably as simple as that.

I ordered a 16 GB iPad black with "4G" shortly after midnight, also before the website went down, and it has just been updated to "prepared for shipment" with delivery to North Devon area.

I'd say theres a good chance of getting anything above a 16GB iPad.

But it all depends on how early you go.

Preparing for shipment here for delivery on 16th. Ordered black 16gb wifi yesterday about 13:00. I feel for those who are 20 miles away and ordered 13 hours before me who aren't getting theirs :-(

Seems quite clear that geographical factors are at play here. Apple has decided that a few scattered zones (Upper Scotland, NI, Cornwall) are not getting it on March 16, others seem to be fine. Have yet to see someone from London or Manchester or even Glasgow city get a delay email. No delay email, but still Processing for delivery on 16 March to London.

I think your only hope would be launch day. I also study in Bath :) BSU or BU?

It's interesting. This might mean they're coming from China instead, which is unusual.

I suspect that's the case.

If so then I think they will stay in preparing for shipment over the weekend then everyone will be sent tracking details which will be wrong. They will give details of shipments to various places in Greece or something.
