I'm quite fortunate. When Apple Executive Relations rang me, I was told they'd take "special care" (something along those lines; don't quote me) of my order in terms of delivery.

I somewhat wish UK orders were more like the US in that they get held at local delivery depots that sometimes just let you pick them up when they arrive at the depot.

Why some people prefer to wait for hours in line outside an Apple Store, losing valuable hours of sleep in the process, instead of simply preordering it online for it to arrive on launch day is beyond me.

I'm guessing the 32GB wifi is more popular this year, than previously, which could mean delays for those models.
I'm also hoping the 64GB wifi models get through!

Ordered a black 32gb WiFi at around 8.30am on the 8th. Getting delivered to Glasgow, no delay e-mail yet. It is getting delivered to right in the city centre though if that makes a difference.

Phoned up Apple today as had been charged twice, and needed education discount, they managed to credit my card for £15 for the edu discount (out of good will, as wasn't applied before) as well as a further £20 credit out of good will due to being messed around when ordering, so all in all a iPad for £365 (Bargain?!) .... Still showing as delivery for the 16th as well.

Ordered a black 64gb 4(3!)g at 0030 8/3/12. Thankfully no delay email.

Wondering if delayed iPads are being redirected to Apple Stores in UK to ensure supply?

Regardless I am getting far too excited for the 16th. I feel like a kid waiting for Father Christmas!!

If the reason people are getting their orders delayed by (upto) 5 days is purely down to the delivery courier not being able to fulfill it's deliveries, then frankly that is appalling, and Apple should be looking at another company to "fill in the gaps", in terms of getting these orders (which likely will be sitting in the UK somewhere) out to its customers on the agreed date.

Having a "postcode lottery" for whether you get an order on the date specified, or 5 days later, is just not on.

I ordered a white 64GB Wi-Fi plus 3G model at approximately 11.50 on Wednesday night and got the confirmation email at approximately 12.30. No email yet saying mine is delayed and fingers cross I don't get one. That said I'm not too bothered as I'll just keep using my iPad 2 until the new one arrives.

/QUOTE] Ordered around 50 mins before you, same model, no delay email yet, Order Status still going strong on March 16. Delivery address Zone 2 London. Seems like first emails were sent a good 4-5 hours ago, we should start to receive them so if that is to be the case...

I, too, now have the 'box' on the order page; however I actually placed two orders and cancelled the first one. Both iPad images have changed to the box. My conclusion? It doesn't actually mean anything...

Judging by the new images of the distribution in Australia and Canada, it seems that Apple is indeed prioritising the bigger cities over smaller areas.

So that must definitely be the delay that some people are receiving emails about.

Fedex dont deliver UK orders.

UPS handles most, if not all of Apple deliveries in the UK for high end products.

UK Mail usually handles things like Airport adapters and other lesser goods.

Just spoken to Apple as I needed to check a few details with my order.

I asked about their shipping method. The agent said they're using three carriers - TNT, UPS and UK Mail.

The batch will be sent to Syncreon in Hinckley then shipped from there.

Hope this helps.

So sounds like they might be using multiple companies to try to cope with the numbers.

ahh, i saw everyone mentioning fedex, oops lmao, goes looking for ups info....

Yeah, the US orders are handled mainly by Fedex, so I can understand the confusion :)

TNT are also a courier Apple use, but I'm fairly certain this is just for the free returns.

They generally get shipped to Dublin, before being shipped across the waters. Then usually they let the carrier's bid on the stock for distribution. In a way its a lottery, but UPS generally gets most of it, as they are pretty much the biggest courier company in the world atm.

My iPhone 4S preorder shipped with UPS last year, although my regular order of a Mac Mini (at a different time) came via TNT.

It's the experience. It's an exciting time of anticipation, and a chance to meet other Apple fans.

One day I will do the in store product launch day thing. One day. So far I've pre ordered on line though.
No delay email here still yet, in East Anglia. Sympathy for those who have got a delay confirmed though, that sucks badly.

Actually UK Mail do deliver higher value Apple items. The did deliver the iPhone 4S and I had a Macbook Air 13 inch delivered by them in January 2012. I guess what has happened is that Apple has informally, and with considerable delay, put into practice for the UK a scheme similar to the one we are seeing publicly for Canada and Australia. The UK has been carved up into "zones" (which may or may not correspond the individual courier charts displayed here) and are shipping the initial batch in timeframe similar to those of these other countries, 16-22 March. After all, it seems that they had implemented this scheme in other European countries, but from the start. They failed to do so in the UK initially, which is why we have this justifiable commotion. For the record no delay email here, and I based in London, so I would assume that my order is being processed for delivery on 16 March as initially stated.

Ah right they must have changed it when the delivery terms changed on their site.

You used to get express delivery by default for free, which meant UPS. Since UK Mail are pretty much a 3 days service, it fits in with Apple's 3-7 business day policy.
