So the 3 years hardware warranty only applies to Apple computers brought from the online store?


I've asked for prices over the phone; they were the same as online (with the 14% or whatever discount) and they always included 3 years AppleCare.
 
^ It doesn't come with 3 years AppleCare, it comes with a 3 year extended warranty with 1 year of phone support. AppleCare, if purchased on top of the free warranty, has phone support for the full 3 years.
 
Any movement for people who ordered on 17th?? Mine still says processing...

Ordered my 2.6/16/512 on 18/06, initial estimate was "3-4 weeks", 17-24/07 (i.e. more like 4-5 weeks, whatever).

Order changed to Shipped yesterday, on expeditor.com it says there's a flight booked from Shanghai either today or tomorrow (hours are all mixed up). Estimated delivery 13/07, which I'd be more than happy about, at this point.

Looking at various forums, I can't see how they prioritize production. I paid almost full price, with just a small corporate discount (nothing like EDU discounts), I don't know if that makes any difference; it's also my first Mac. I just hope my rMBP is not going to be one of the dreaded "ghosting" batch...

I guess it's because of the EDU discount
mine is taking this long to dispatch. Or perhaps mine is the base model that may be the reason its taking time ...anyways, It's my first mac as well. I think they'll dispatch mine sometime early next week. Can't wait!!!! Im really happy to see that you're getting it before the original estimated delivery dates. Enjoy your first mac!:) and have fun the next weekend with your new mac!:)
 
I'm flying out tomorrow for two weeks so today's the last day I'll be online, hopefully I'll have a lovely new rmbp waiting for me when I get back! :D

getting really pissed off now. ordered on the 12th, few days ago its was still 'processing' and today, i tried to look at order status, and all i get is: 'We're Sorry, Something went wrong with your request. Please try again later'.

Erm, is anyone else having a similar problem? this is so frustrating.

Looks like it's global and apple do maintenance on their websites over the weekend so it should be back up this evening or by tomorrow I reckon.

It happens pretty much every Sunday morning and comes back on around now (usually anyway)!

Mine is now in Heathrow. Arrived today early in the morning. I don't think I should put my hopes up for delivery on Monday as it still needs to be merged with the Gift card.

About the extended 3 years warranty:

I think they stopped doing that a couple of years back and introduced the massive discount on Apple Care instead.

Maybe it depends on your uni. Mine is definitely 3 years warranty at least, maybe even AppleCare. All I need to know is that I can take it into the store to sort out my problems for the next 3 years.
 
If it's apple care for 3 years or an extended warranty for 3 years as long as you can take it back to get it fixed within that time then that is what matters.

I absolutely was NOT being sarcastic. I meant every word! I would happily wait an extra day or two for my computer if it meant you didn't have to live with a dead pixel. That kind of thing would really irritate me and I think you deserve to have a replacement.

UK orders online with higher education discount come with 3 years applecare, the option you have at checkout is to add extended telephone support for the second and third year which unless you're a computer novice isn't needed. People need to stop posting factually incorrect information.

For up to three years from your computer's original purchase date, the AppleCare Protection Plan (Extended Telephone Technical Support is extra at £60) gives you direct, one-stop access to Apple's award-winning telephone technical support for questions about Apple hardware, Mac OS X, iLife, and iWork.

Also useful to know, if you don't live near an apple store or service centre you need full applecare for them to pay for shipping if you need to mail it in for repair (My nearest is a 2 hour drive). Also full applecare is transferable, the HE warranty is a bit hit and miss whether it transfers if you sell the laptop on within the 3 years.

I think I end up having to explain this in this thread every few pages.

Online/Phone EDU Orders: Come with an automatic 3-year hardware warranty that will kick in after about a month and start showing up on the AppleCare serial checker. This is only for HE purchases, and is not quite the same as a full AppleCare purchase, but covers the important stuff.

Retail Store Purchases: Do not come with any warranty beyond the standard 1-year. However they will sell you AppleCare, the full thing, for cheap to compensate for the lack of the automatic warranty.

Question for the current MacBook Pro owners. Having only used ordinary MacBooks in the past, I've never had more than one graphics unit on the board. But after reading some peoples musings on the Intel graphics chip being rather sluggish... can a user force the OS to use the discrete chip until told otherwise?
