got an airport express for £20 and dot mac for £15 from chester - nothing left there now.

Thanks to original poster.

Thanks!

Thanks to the original poster on this. Apparently, the close out Apple sale has been on a while, but when I saw this thread I got on the blower straight away and found out Croydon had some stuff left. Straight down there on the train from work in London W1 at 5pm, and have just got back home with a big hole in my pocket...tomorrow I need to drive back and collect

Airport Express new £20

New sealed box base 12" iBook 1.33Ghz 40Gb G4 Combo £299. Great internet and iTunes remote controller as a minimum!

Ex-dem base MacBook Combo 1.83Ghz. Needs a good clean and battery is faulty (but can be dealt with under Apple Warranty) £399

Ex-dem but looks new 17" base intel iMac 1.83Ghz Combo £399

So now to sort my Dad out at last with a Mac, and rid him of AOL and Windows forever hopefully!

(PS All Croydon has left is a 20" ACD at £299, not so great a bargain)

Cheers

Nothing is showing up on their website... I didnt know they sold Mac's.

No, it was an instore only deal.

That's a nice haul you have there Jaunty

I'm heading to the Cardiff branch in the morning. I just want an Airport Express, so I won't be too miffed if they don't have anything.

I phoned my local toysrus,

all they had left was an ex display macbook that they would sell for 350 or 250.

The guy said the battery was faulty, and he would phone me back once he knew if he was able to get a replacement.

Thats all I know from the call, but from this thread it seems the 350 macbook would be core duo, can anyone clarify what clock speed?

I assume if he cant get a replacement battery its going for 250, and if he can its 350.

Obviously it depends on the specs and the condition of the system, but what do you think of 250/350 for a core duo macbook?

Ebay seems to have 'as new' CD 2.0s for about 370, so maybe its not that good a deal?

Ahhh, interesting... Toys R' Us really went downhill in the US over the past 10-15 years. Now, they are not the most pleasant stores to visit, per se, here. :( I remember I used to love it when I was a kid. I do occasionally go there to shop for presents, however.

That's kinda funny. I went to one about a year or two ago and the place looked like a really rundown store like they were going out of business or something. Kids these days, wantin computers and not GI Joe :)

Just been to my local Toys R Us,

Got two Airport Extremes for 19.99 each, dotmac for 14.99....
(AE will go to me and a friend)

That was pretty much the last of any deals they had in!

No hardware left or software!

Thanks poster for the great info, now i have to rethink what to ask for my birthday in a couple of weeks!!! :D

This wasn't the Govan store by any chance? I received similar information when I phoned them. I assumed when I wasn't called back that someone else must've bought it in the interim, which I've since found to be the case.

I think the battery prob stemmed from the store keeping the laptop plugged in constantly. As for the spec of this specific machine (I remember seeing it back when it was £750+), it was a 1.83GHz Core Duo w/ 60GB HDD and 512MB RAM. Bottom of the barrel, and mucky as hell into the bargain from grubby Govaners fingering the wondrous tech... Still, for £250, I wouldn't have said no.

Went to the Cardiff branch this morning, the guy said the stuff had all gone a week or so back:(

So I picked up some logitech 2.1 speakers, to hook up to the PB to watch DVDs in bed.
They're pretty good sounding considering they were so cheap.:)

Was in Toys R' Us not long ago.

The MacBook they had on display had about 2 keys remaining, and looked like someone had dragged it through every muddy field since it left the manufacturer's plant.

If you're looking for a cheap Mac, then check it out first.. don't just buy one based on the price!

I've got an iMac 17" reserved at my local branch for £399.

It's been sent away for repairs, so I'll take a look at it when it comes back and see if it's any good before deciding if i'm going to buy it.

just been to my local store - got Dot Mac for £15 and a Airport Express for £19.99

BARGAIN - got the last ones too:cool:

They don't have that offer here because they don't stock Mac products, apparently, in this part of the UK.
Anyone want to lift one extra when they're in? ;)

dam dot mac for £15 that is such a bargain, was looking to buy it before my trip to Malaysia and Thailand to be able to have a place to store all my photos. Looks like eBay is my only option for cheap .mac now. (may just use free storage sites such as box.net)

That's a shame. My brother went down there this morning to see if he could buy his first Mac on the cheap. I guess he'll have to make do with a new rash vest instead.

Ooh!

Where and when and what not?

I'm setting off in October.

:)

I don't know about that. My local TRU is always busy, despite being in a somewhat bad location, and is very tidy inside (at least the last time I was there) even though there are so many kids running around mukking things up.

I'm a bit gutted that the Cardiff store is empty (as someone said in this thread).

I went to the Stevenage store and managed to get dotmac for £15. They had a couple more of those left and 1 copy of iWork left for £15 as well. The only hardware they had was a Cinema Display but I didn't look at the price.

The person I spoke to at the collections desk said they have had people ringing up all the time asking what they had left and he told me they did have a MacBook but they needed to send it off first because keys were missing.

Gutted, I may pop down to my local store tonight not got much hope of anything being left though!!

Toys R US did a similar thing last year, i got a Core Solo Mac Mini for £300, which was a v.good deal at the time, best think I ever bought.

Apparently the Cardiff store have a MacBook and 17" iMac left, specs unknown. They're waiting to get the software restore disks, as they've lost the originals.
They reckon it'll be a couple of weeks until they're ready. £399 each.
