Mainly because I usually wear watches that are larger than this.
But if you're used to wearing larger, and are happier with the way the 42mm feels, then go with the 42mm.
Looks like you have made your decision!
But also I couldn't have put it any other way...
I don't want it to be as flashy as some of my other normal watches. I want it to be sleek and fashionable.
However, I don't want one that screams smart watch.
So you want it fashionable, BUT sleek, but not sure if the size is correct?
I say it looks good! Could be Amazing and perfect... you could change that, the white band on the SS doesn't really go well with being Sleek and Fashionable. After all its a sports band. I understand that its your mothers. its just a thought. Color makes a huge difference.
I imagine if it was a BSB or a CB it would fit your criteria.
In short: I tell all my clients who go for things that they aren't accustom to buying... E x p a n d your wardrobe and go for something different. It defiantly doesn't look small on your wrist.
And after all
Just got the 38MM Classic buckle yesterday, and I'm having seconds thoughts thinking the 42 would be a better fit?

Here's another pic of my 38mm. I didn't wanna go for the "big smart watch" look. Other people before have said it looks good. Wrists are about 175mm. What do y'all think?

Looks to be perfect for you
Nope! looks awesome
The 38 looks perfect for you actually. The 42 seems to overpower your wrist and like it might get in the way from day to day activities.
All of this is subjective though!
My personal view is a traditional watch can be larger, but in a smart watch if it looks too big on you, it looks rather techy.

Judging by your card pic, it looks like your wrist is very similar in width to mine. You're in the "B" category. Therefore I would suggest you pick whichever one appeals to you most. I think both look fine. It's totally personal preference at this point. We're lucky in that we can wear either size and pull it off.
For me, the 42 just didn't feel right and the 38 looked better to me. But I'm more of a traditional kind of guy and not too trendy.
After reading about so many people getting the 42, I second-guessed myself and made a second trip back to the Apple store and tried the two sizes again. All I did was confirm that the 38 is what I wanted. Then I found this thread and it confirmed my decision.
I'm not sure if you're looking at the same picture as me, but that T-Mobile card hides his wrist completely, making him an A, definitely not a B
Just because it covers the wrist doesn't automatically make it an A. It's a bit subjective. For example in my case the card covers my wrist, but not greatly so. A 38 or 42 both work for me.Your wrist matches or just a tad smaller, or just a tad larger.
I think I'm finally ready to order one. I finally measured my wrist for band size and its about 175mm. From using the watch sizes on the phone app the 42 just looks too big. I'm going to go with the 38. I don't really care about the look. There is no apple store near me so I won't get the chance to try on the 42 until we go on vacation at the end of June. If I don't like it out of the box I have two weeks to return it anyway.

I switched my order from 42 to 38. Haven't tried it on in the store, but I have 175mm / 60mm wide wrist and by looking at others with similar wrist sizes, I thought I'd rather have something that looks like a watch vs a screen with a band attached. I put the cutouts of the faces of other wrist watches that I wear now and can see the 38 is just fine. I really wanted a Fitbit or similar to replace my everyday watch, so the smaller Apple watch stays in tune with what I was originally thinking about wanting a heart rate monitor on wrist, and something that also gives notifications. Plus I stay in the Apple ecosystem.
