I'm C, but I'm still getting the 38mm. I hate big watches. This is the look I'm going for.

That actually looks like a watch, not a screen on a band.

Agreed. People tend to forget that the screen will be off almost all the time. During my try-on appointment, I thought that the blank black screen makes both models look bigger. I freely admit it's really subjective though. I've always worn a wristwatch and I just happen to prefer them to be around the size of the 38mm, and my wrist width is almost 60mm.

My wrist is just covered by a credit card. However, I ordered the 42mm because I like the extra screen space. I could understand going either way though. Some bands don't fit me well, but I'll be using the sport bands.

One review I read said that either size would fit well practically any wrist. I agree with that.

I'm a B. I've been wearing a Kickstarter Pebble for over 2 years, so I'm used to the "smart watch look." I'm happy with my 42mm preorder!

Tried on the watch today. I am glad i ordered what i did. The 42mm actually was smaller than i had thought. The 38 would have needed s microsope for me to look at!!

For some of us, this is the biggest dividing (old eyes and all). At normal viewing distance, on the 42mm I can red the "Mon" on the top of the calendar icon, at 38mm it is a red blur - so easy choice.

I was at the  store a few days. I was playing with the demo watches and saw under settings you can actually set the text size... Not sure to what extent it changes like it does on the iPhone.

Guide was right on for me

I wish I had seen this post before I ordered the 42mm, as the credit card sizing guide was aesthetically spot-on on for both my husband and me. I am a definite A. I was sure I wanted the 42mm SS with the Milanese loop so that I could have the additional screen real estate. Plus, I would have been able to pass it down to my husband when the next version came out. But when I tried the 42mm on in the store, the 38mm was the ticket (really looked awesome), especially as the Milanese band was too wide with the 42mm. I have now pre-ordered the 38mm. Can't wait. :D

always thought I had small wrist, but apparetly I'm a B.

went with 38mm. laughing myself to the bank with the additional 50 dollars of saving. ;)

I'm a big B or a small C and so I was pretty certain a 42mm would be fine, but not a little worried it'd feel chunky. I wear an original Pebble right now, so anything smaller is an improvement, however, so knew I'd be happy either way.

I was pleasantly surprised by how compact the 42mm watch felt. I'm usually pretty aware that my watch is on my wrist, but the 42mm sport just melted away, in body weight and comfort and the size looked pretty much perfect for an average sized male wrist. I feel like the shape of the watch itself and the lack of hard edges always make it FEEL smaller than it appears, the surface area contacting the wrist being smaller and smoother.

Either way, the guide seems to be a pretty good suggestion of sizing, thanks!

I have some extra hanging out on the sides of the credit card, so 42mm I guess. Haven't really thought about width, just circumference. I also didn't think about holding up the "actual size" from the Apple Store app up to my wrist. That was very helpful as the 38mm looks way too small. I'm actually surprised the 42mm isn't bigger. Anyone think Apple will release a larger size in the coming years? It will be the iPhone Plus all over again, haha.

If there's anything I've learned throughout this whole Watch debacle, it's that I actually have fairly normal sized wrists. I always thought they were small for some reason. Probably because while growing up I was pretty scrawny, so that must have affected my self-image.

I'm a guy and I'm an A with 145mm wrists... I'm definitely going for the 38 since the 42 would just look too big on my wrist.

Thanks for the post. Nice way to make it simple and at least give a good starting point.

You're measurement is very accurate. As a guy with somewhat thin wrists I thought I would use the 38mm. When I went to the store I found that the 38mm looked feminine (to me and my wife, no offense to anyone who prefers it), so I'm going for a 42mm.

I though that was weird, but your guide shows how B can go both ways and it's more of a style and preference thing.

So for those who have not gone to the store, this is a great way to start your quest!

I pre-ordered a 42mm Sport (probably coming this Friday), but after a visit to the Apple Store I'm thinking I should drop to the 38mm. I'd like the larger size for the bigger screen and better battery life, but it is almost the size of my wrist. Seems OK in person, but it looks pretty ungainly in the photos. I have a 160mm wrist.

I have the same exact size wrist. I originally had a 42mm sport but cancelled that and got a 38mm SS with classic buckle. The classic buckle makes the watch seem slimmer due to the band.

I agree! I love the SS on you! Even more so with the 38mm on. Looks classy

You made a great move there!

I did end up ordering a SS 38mm with a black sports band. I was surprised how much nicer the steel body looked. They still have a 4-6 week wait, so I'm hoping it will come in early May.

I'm hoping a third party makes a solid leather band soon. $150 seemed a bit pricey for the leather band.

Im a B, small part of my wrist sticking out on both side of the credit card. Have a 42 mm on order already but now I'm having second thoughts. Don't live near an Apple Store so trying out is not an option. Any ideas?

I'd say stick with your order! If your a guy this might sway the 38mm vs. the 42mm boat. Think of it this way, you'll have a smart watch that has all day battery life and great screen realestate! You'll just have the oversized look, giver or take. But only time will tell! My brother and I have the same wrist width and some how maybe his skin tone or just his personality makes the 38mm looked way to small on him, which is odd cause the 38mm is perfect for myself.

Jelling! I would have gotten the SS if it wasn't for me working in the health care field as well. However, here is something to think about...

When I was trying on the 38mm SS with modern buckle it changed the look of the watch (made the watch seem smaller on my wrist), we ( Associate and I) determined that it was because the way that the band is a straight cut in width and also the flat texture of the band. In contrast to the classic leather band, where the band tapers from wide at the base of the watch, to thin at the prongs and wholes at the end of the band, plus the actual texture of leather.

In short stick with bands that taper from wide to thin, if its anything like the modern buckle where its a straight cut band it could change the appearance of the watch.

After all in fashion, color, size, and shape not matter how small it is, can make a huge difference in how its perceived.

Thanks for your advise. Will keep my order

I resent the notion that someone's opinion of which apple watch looks the best is of more value than someone else's
