everyone else in this thread is taking the position that appearances don’t matter. But the question itself presumes otherwise: it’s clear OP does care what his appearance says about him, or he wouldn’t have asked. (My own view as someone who has to wear suits often is that it matters to the extent the opinions of your colleagues/clients matter. People judge you by how you look. Sorry, people are shallow, and that’s life. If you’re a professional wearing a suit at your place of work, yes your appearance does matter or you wouldn’t be wearing the suit in the first place.)

So with that said: sorry, it doesn’t go with a suit. It looks like what it is, which is a sport watch, not a professional watch.
I generally agree with your sentiment here. Matter of fact, I was the sole enemy in a thread a few months back regarding the Hermes vs Aluminum AW in a business type setting defending this position.

However, I don’t think the Ultra applies. Despite a couple not so noticeable orange markings on it (especially if worn on the left wrist with crown facing the hand), it is still a large premium metal cased Watch. No different than most out there. It’s not like it has antennas sticking out of it.

I remember when (might still do) premium watch makers offered beautiful aviator watches with an E6B flight computer on the bezel. Most people don’t know what that is or what it’s used for but I wouldn’t exclude it from being used in formal wear just for that.

My opinion might change when I see it person but going by the pics, I think it will fly and I anticipate it looking much better in person.

My opinion of course but what do I know.

Thanks. This is the appropriate response. Appreciate the rest of the responses but it’s not real world responses

It’s not like I’m constantly worried about what others think. But the part of the suit is ….what? Looking professional, so of course the watch should look the same
Why ask then?

There is an overwhelming amount of responses supporting the Ultra with a suit vs not but if you’re going to immediately dismiss them and only look for answers that you agree with, why ask?

because the question is whether or not the watch works with a suit or not - not whether or not I care should care what people think I look like?

Said poster gave a reason as to why they think it doesn’t work with a suit. Which is what I was asking for - not that I agree with answer but with the response. I’m not looking for a lecture on “just be yourself”

When you say works with a suit, do you mean physically, as in will it fit, or if it looks good?

Like if it will look good vs out of place. I do realize it’s highly subjective of course and not a straight answer. I’m on the fence
Gotchya. There were (many) responses saying it was fine without mentioning what others think but it seems like you were just waiting for the response that you wanted to hear which is why I asked.

Best bet is to wait and see in person. Put it on with a suit, test it out, see if you get googly eyes or funny faces when out an about. I anticipate it to look much better (for all occasions) in person than the photos. I don’t think it’s gonna look that much larger and gaudy in person than what the specs suggest. It’s a difference of 4 mm. That’s not a spectacular difference. I think it will look stunning with a matching titanium or leather band.

I’d rather live life the way I want than worry about judgemental people.
You can only take this notion so far until you don't fit into society at all. If you suddenly go around dressed in a clown suit because that's your truth, don't be surprised if most doors that were previously open to you, close to you.

Extreme example, but I'm just trying to highlight how there are constraints when it comes to fashion, and while it's good to do things your own way, it's also good to get some insight from others in case you go too far.

Gotcha. Yea for that response I was purely responding to one particular part of it rather than taking the whole sale “it won’t look good with a suit” deal.

I think it will, though probably
Slightly less than my S7 titanium

Wait, so good with a suit:

SS Apple Watch
Ultra

Not good with a auit:

Aluminium Apple Watch

You must be joking.
:D

Saw this mentioned briefly in another thread, but if im
Spending 800$ I need this to be my every day watch.

Ok to wear with suit? I wear one almost every day at work (clinic)
The only really sensible answer to this is, "It depends."

Some things it depends on:

  • How well you wear the watch. Does it look appropriately sized for your wrist, or is it way too large?
  • How well you wear your suit. Is it appropriately sized and tailored for your frame? That's table stakes for wearing a suit fashionably, and if the suit looks bad on you, there's no need to worry about how good the watch looks. On the flip side, if the suit makes you look like a million bucks, then it might not matter whether or not the watch detracts from the overall look.
  • What band you're using with the watch. Any of the new bands that come pre-packaged with the Ultra definitely won't go well with any kind of suit. I would never wear any of the sport bands with a suit, either. Use a high-quality leather or stainless steel band, though, and suddenly it's a different story. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing how the Ultra pairs with the space black link bracelet I own.
  • Finally, and probably most importantly, is your own attitude. If you carry yourself with confidence, and don't give what's on your wrist a second thought because of course it's supposed to be there, then it's highly unlikely anyone else will think worse of you for it.
As for me, no one is likely to notice that I've shown up to an event wearing an Apple Watch Ultra with my suit. They're probably going to be too busy being horrified at the fact that I showed up on a motorcycle.

I do have an actual practical suggestion. If you go to Apple’s page about the ultra and scroll to the bottom, they do let you view in AR. Maybe you can put on a coat and virtually try it out so see what you think.

No, I didn’t say it looked good vs bad with a suit. In that thread, I said that you’re being judged and if doing business, the richer you look, the more successful you look. The more successful you look, the better chance of closing a business deal and I was specifically talking about Hermes because their bands are something special.

The aluminum AW does not look like anything special. Kids are walking around with them. You may not agree but we don’t have to agree.

So yes, I think the SS and Ultra do/will look BETTER with a suit.

Agreed. But in this case, if wearing a watch makes people look at you as if you’re dressed as a clown, it says more about them than you.

Now im wondering if this thing wil even fit under long sleeves/dress shirts?

Haven’t seen any hands on videos with long sleeve on

Well this is a fun thread. OP asked how well the AWU would go with a suit and most are telling him just be yourself, substance over style, don't be a sheep, etc lol.

Most of these folks must have hideous significant others bc everyone knows ugly ppl have the best personalities. 🤪

I’m a 53 yr old professional woman and struggled with this decision too. I decided, screw it… the pleasure I’ll get in having this amazing new watch will overpower any concerns about not matching my wardrobe.
Exactly. Why does it have to match if you derive pleasure from it. Enjoy!

I don't think it is some hideous or gigantic watch, as many here imply. I don’t think it will look bad with a suit.

Maybe I'll make TMZ. 😆
