It's not OCD, it's called attention to detail. What I am asking for isn't much. I care about what things look like down to the bone- because I have to. If someone were to get me a mouse for Christmas that did not match my laptop, I'd take it back like most people would.

Shopping for a mouse and just picking any one up (especially from Best Buy) is a very dangerous way to shop. Also, if the mouse doesn't look good, no one is going to give it any attention. And who cares about chicks?

And also, don't quote me on this, but I get plenty of action lol. But thanks for your opinion.

I quoted you on this.

This mouse is very slim and minimalistic:

some people just prefer to live dangerously ... hence picking up any mouse at BB ... do you seriously credit your choice in Mice for all the attention and "action" you get? :D

No, but I do feel very comfortable and very confident in my decisions. I get the action without having the tech, or course it does help a small bit. lol Jb07, you already know what I'd say about that mouse.

Wow, it's so cool I just tried Siri with mobile mouse and it turns out... you can reply on your laptop with your voice.

I might actually start using Siri more.

Exactly what im talking about. Your attention to detail should be towards how it works for you, not what it looks like and chances are, you are the only one who cares about what it looks like but IF someone has ever had to use your mouse for something, they are probably the ones saying "this mouse sucks" instead of saying it looks good.
Now, i know your probably going to say that nobody will ever touch your mouse...which is someone with OCD would say...lol.

Dangerous? Really? What do you mean nobody is going to give it any attention? Thats just weird.
You cant just bring it back if it truly is really a piece of crap? I bought a mouse one time that had a retracable cable because at the time i thought it was something that would be easy to put away when im done with nmy laptop and going someplace else but i didnt like how it worked. I dont even remember what it looked like as far as color or what brand it was. So i just threw it in the drawer and got another one.

Whew....that was dangerous.

Before I get too deep into it, I respect all opinions, but if you must know, in my world, it matters. It's not as absurd as you think. Should you just buy something without any care or after thought? That is on a totally different end of the spectrum.

Let me guess, it doesn’t match your computer?
Yes. It's okay if you like Play-Doh mouse sandwiches though.

Other than to show off and impress people you don't know? ;)

It appears the mouse that fits your lifestyle, because there is no other word for it, does not exist.

Sure it does. I just have to find it. I love a good hunt.

Then I could use, "You wouldn't believe where I got this." It makes for very interesting conversation.

I'm sorry...

I don't want so seem absurd or immature, but before too deep into it, I respect your opinions as well as my own. If you must know, I live in a world where it matters. The belief that you should just buy it without any care or after thought is on a totally different end of the spectrum.

I dont just buy anything. I read things first before i buy them. I dont just take them off the shelf and buy it. I may even google whatever it is and read some feedback but that is because im trying to see how it works....not what it looks like. That doesnt matter to me nearly as much.

You buying something just because of its looks or how it matches your laptop imo is a far worse way to buy something and im sure you end up with more junk than good products but , im sure you will say you dont...because thats how you buy stuff...which clearly many here think is bizarre.

Your reasons are kinda juvenile is all i was thinking which is why it made me think of the past immature comment which again, i never saw so i dont know why it was said.

Try answering your phone while using it as a mouse... ought to be interesting.

Just tried it. The iPhone allows you to do all kinds of things while you're on a call. Even using it as a mouse. And it works surprisingly great. And that was without the headphones.

The guy that said he would fire someone just for using their iPhone as a mouse is kind of mean. I mean, it's not like a permanent solution, but it's kind of cool for a little while.

For a professional, uniform look. When something is eccentric looking, I just don't feel comfortable using it. I like uniformity.

Why do people say that if it looks good, it probably doesn't work? I've had friends tell me this when I went out buy a car.

A professional mouse is one that is comfortable to use and has decent build quality, not one that matches your laptop. Honestly, your best bet is to buy a mouse with a form factor you like, tape it up, and spraypaint the offending areas. Or have one commissioned.

Good luck.

If you're purchasing computers/mice/any other tech stuff because they will impress people instead of because they will work best for you, you need to re-evaluate your life. Computers, mice, etc. are tools. Do you go out and buy the coolest looking wrench you can, even if it's not comfortable for you to hold when you need to use it?

I, and I think most people here, understand that design is important. It's nice to have things that are pleasing to look at. But when you're more concerned about what other people will think than whether or not what you're buying will actually help you get the job done...that's when it gets a bit out out of hand. Form + function is good. Form over function...not so good.

That's an over-generalization. Just because it looks good, doesn't meant it doesn't work.

I wouldn't buy a wrench with style, no- those will probably be getting dirty.

Phones, book bags, notebooks, pencils, pens, laptops, I have an aesthetic preference for those. So, I care about how they look. The iPhone is more than just a tool. It's an aphrodisiac, it's persuasive, it's a stress reliever, it's a pick-me-up.

In a public place (With no headphones), try answering your phone while using your computer.

Can't put your phone on speakerphone - other people might hear your confidential conversations. Can't use the mouse with the phone attached to your ear - Not physically possible.

What do?

For gaming, I've found that a Trackball works the best. I have my settings set to a super-high sensitivity level so I can literally move my thumb-ball about a quarter inch and it'll pan the entire screen. It took some getting used to, but I found that I react far faster than dragging a mouse over the desk.

Um, why are we still using mouses?

Um, why are we still using mouses?
Subjective preference. Stop assuming that your preferences are universal. In any case, I haven't used mice for ages.

Then I tried using my iPhone as a wireless mouse. It works better than any mouse I've ever owned in my life. And then the thought came to me. Why am I using an old fashioned mouse when the iPhone is so much better?
Rule of thumb: the word "better" is your clue that it's a subjective matter. You find it better. That doesn't mean that everyone else does.

We can't talk about that. If you're not going to rally or boycott or anything, then how can you change it? Let them do their business. Let's not be mini lawyers. It makes us look bad.

So we're NOT mini-lawyers???

Dang it.

To begin I printed out a list, chose a few of the most common commands I use, highlighted them & memorized them.

Next I set a goal of learning the ones for OS X that would benefit me most, a few at a time. I've made a point of learning them for Chrome, and other apps I use.

Now a few years later I have approx 60-80 keyboard shortcuts memorized.

The speed increase in my workflow is stunning. Well worth the effort, once my fellow engineers saw how fast I can go, it inspired them to learn shortcuts. The result is very satisfying.

Here's a good list:

That list is golden. I appreciate it. Thats exactly what Im gonna do too.

Um, ....really? You care what a pencil or a pen looks like? The iPhone is an aphrodisiac and persuasive?

Talk about weird!

One major downside to this approach is you end up with a trackpad and not a mouse so it's not the same thing and definitely not an alternative.

I have yet to see any trackpad or trackpoint match even a cheap mouse or trackball for precision.
