Taiwanese TV says Apple will release a NetBook like device in November. However, don't know about their sources...

I've heard that it has a 8.9" screen , blueray, FW400, and discreet graphics. It better.. because I won't buy one if it doesn't. Oh.. it also better be sub $700.

:D

Egad, so the itablet rumors have begun. MWSF must be coming up soon. I swear, there has been an itablet rumor every MWSF for the last 3 or 4 years.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

I have an opinion. Oops.

The iPhone was 39% of Apple revenue this timeframe. Consider that. 39%.

ONE SKU.

If they were to offer one more SKU with more "effective screen space" (2x-3x the pixel count) but still in a phone format and "holsterable", then they would have a crossover upscale, corporate and top end SKU using existing components and engineering, but simply a larger display more suitable for movement media. Intel has some spectacular "core duo" on the small (code compatible with laptops) and low power in the pipeline and as you know Apple is focused on customized application specific chips and graphics upgrades and coprocessors.

Snow leopard on an iPhone slightly larger (ATNN). Only a $200 premium.

Puts the Mac+ to shame. Especially on price and distribution. Thank god for round-rects! (desk in recent ad too)

Rocketman

whatever they do it they need to put a FireWire port on it otherwise we won't hear anything but the moans and cries from all the people who believe they will die if they don't buy it .

Even if this web log report is correct, it may reveal that Apple has prototype devices in the R&D lab, which isn't that surprising. It doesn't mean that there's any product actually planned for release. I put this very low on my list of credible evidence of an upcoming product.

i dunno you guys.. you cant make this stuff up

Well I certainly know nothing about this mess.

What keeps it from simply being a normal Mac using a small screen, such as a Mac Mini using a small LCD for some mod/hack? Or perhaps someone hacked OSx86 onto a netbook? Or maybe someone even spoofing their user agent on a normal netbook to look like a Mac... it could be any number of things.

The OLO may be fake, but might reveal a highly marketable peripheral for the iPhone. This would be interesting, and would likely work, with a little assistance from an additional internal processor to boot a fully operational OS X - A Netbook for the rest-of-us:

How Sweet It Is:

Both of those would cause me to open my wallet during a crappy time to open it.

And don't tell me that this isn't the evolution of that new ACD.

Of course, this is more likely:

Javascript enabled browsers can have their resolution detected.

arn

Only if the site asks the browser and stores that information. Storing UA strings is likely, storing screen resolutions isn't.

Besides, it's not like the resolution is indicative of anything. My UA string tells you the browser I'm using and the OS I'm on. I could be using an external screen, have set my resolution low, or be on a hackintosh.

I have my doubts, given that it hasn't been rumored anywhere else…

…but if production devices are surfing the web right now, release can't be far away.

While I support the vision for a large multi-touch device from apple of some kind....I must say that this taiwanese tv rumor is crap.

Jobs continues to affirm that the iPhone is their current "sub-notebook" device.

Can the iPhone run desktop apps? No.

It's probably user agent string + resolution

My understanding was the search engine noticed (1) a different user agent string, and (2) a different resolution. I think the combination of things is why they made note of it, and my guess would be it has happened from enough IP addresses that they found it noteworthy.

Storing screen resolution is pretty likely for most search engines looking for statistics on their users. They generally want as much information as they can get on their users, especially now that they are all involved in webmail clients and other "Web 2.0" applications.

I'm not saying it's real, or that we'll ever see an Apple tablet, but I don't think you can discount the search engine's findings when you haven't seen all the information.

Won't happen until the rest of the ecosystem is in place. Apple has a very certain style when releasing brand new products- it always has an internal logic and integration. (think iPod and iPhone)

MobileMe is one link, but will need to be developed.

I can forsee a real push by Apple toward Cloud computing coming but things are still "nascent". Possibly a web-based iWork utility suite a la google docs (hopefully less annoyingly buggy) and a relaunch of iDisk.

No docking with your home iMac will be necessary so can't see those pretty mock-ups materialising.

I also believe that it will be an upscaling of the iPhone rather than a cheapening and shrinking of the MacBook- Apple will herald it as a new category, and take the glory for making cloud computing viable.

Late '09 earliest. (IMHO)
