You could say “it could still end up being true” about any fake.
Should we just have endless threads of fake products and renders?

I think macrumors even thought it was fake to begin with but essentially lined up with all the ‘facts’ of what to expect from the other leaks from multiple sources. Published it because it was close enough to a visual representation.

I completely agree with it getting old with a new“16” MacBook Pro article” every day, it’s become an ongoing joke with the other daily threads. It’s clear that there is a pent-up desire for a decent pro machine, I think that’s why they are getting the attention they are.

Apple, will you PLEASE offer more RAM in the MacBook Pro for professional use? 96 or 128G, or at least 64G. A number of PC laptop manufacturers offer those options. Catch up!

Does anyone know if Apple is planning to do this anytime soon?
Those aren't laptop's...they are portable workstations. Typically they weigh more and use more power so aren't really the type of machine Apple have built. To meet the needs of that kind of use case it's a completely different device. If people are concerned about thermals in the current model, then adding in Xeon processors and desktop class GPUs is not going to be viable in the current kind of design. It isn't just a matter of allowing more ram, it is engineering workstation class cpu, motherboard, and GPUs to run off a battery in a body that can be carried and doesn't run into thermal issues.

Did a quick FotoForensics and the compression looks a bit different from similar product images on Apple's website. However, could be an artifact of MacRumors putting their watermark on. Edges of the hand (particularly the thumb) also look a lot rougher than I would expect from Apple.

Obvious photoshop is obvious.

  • The cancel button on current MacBook pros are in the place of the escape key. It will turn into "done" or "esc" as needed by a prompt. If Apple reintroduces a physical escape key, that button on the Touch Bar will no longer show.
  • The amount paid is wrong
  • The recipient should be North face, not Apple
  • Pinned tabs now have colored favicon, meaning this is from an older safari version

This computer needs Face ID! There is no excuse not to add it; the computer is the “next” MacBook Pro and should follow the phone/iPad tec.

The implementation would need user key press to activate, which is necessary because you wouldn't want the MacBook to unlock while it's on, say, screensaver mode. But, it also takes away from the ease of one step faceID on iPhones with raise to wake. If I need to wake it first with a key anyways, faceID just introduces another unnecessary step. It would be good to have on iMacs though.

Well, what's the point of all these rumours - this MBP will likely cost about 2999$.

With 128GB SSD.
And no option for matte display.
And no ports.
And no Magsafe.

And Touchbar is stupid. 😁

Definitely a shopped image of the 2016 leak.

The supposed 16" MBP TouchBar shows $326.20 which was the price in the 2016 MBP image. The price shown on the supposed 16" MBP screen is $199.

Yep. Also, Apple would never use a 3rd party website like north face in their images. It would be your usual Apple website. Also the point of the original image back in 2016 was to highlight the Touch ID. There would be no need to highlight it again on the upcoming 16” MBP as it’s an old feature.

This is as fake as they come. This is one of the worst attempts I have seen over the years.

Fake or not, that's literally what is going to look like.

This....I just....I don't get it. Face ID is meant for the Mac. It is the ideal use case. It would be a joy. And...Touch ID is terrible on the Mac. It is an awful user experience. Nothing like it is/was on iPhone.

How these facts have not resulted in a single Face ID Mac, I just cannot understand.

So how do we use Face ID in clamshell mode?

To unlock mackbook pro with face id, just wave it in the air, which will trigger face ID. Easy! :)

🤣same as you use Touch ID...

sorry I’ll see myself out.

That’s a good point and makes my question kinda stupid from that point of view.

I use my MBP in a sort of pseudo clamshell mode for the very purposes of Touch ID. It’s kind of half open and sideways (with the right side closest to me) so I can reach the Touch ID button as needed but still all connected to a larger multi display arrangement without using the internal display for actual usage (I mirror one of the other displays to the internal so that I’m not missing anything in view on the larger displays).

I guess I’d have to figure something else out if FaceID became the future of Mac security.

Although here’s an idea. We have “Unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch” which I like to use but have to be careful with because it’s just a little too easy. Maybe someone else in the office can try to wake up my Mac while I’m away from it but still close enough for the watch activation to work (which is a remarkably long distance actually).

I think there’s also something new where I can unlock certain functions on my Mac (password entry? Something... I can’t remember) by double tapping the side button on the watch...? Haven’t caught up with that yet, if it’s a thing, it would be a bit of a pain.

Perhaps the best of all worlds (assuming it works reliably) could be a combination of Face ID on the watch and the watch unlocking stuff on the Mac if I look at it attentively enough at the appropriate time.

I suspect maybe Face ID won’t come to the Mac because it might be too easy to trigger. Someone tries to hack your Mac and the security message pops up saying “Do you want to allow this [whatever it is that if you authorize will delete everything]?” A cursory glance authorizes it and your Mac is hosed. Maybe not so great. Lol.

Looks fake. Why would the Touch Bar display “Touch ID to pay Apple” when purchasing from the North Face? Even the screen itself says TNF. Nor do the prices match.
Same finger from the 2016 pic, photoshop.

edit: and the same $326.20 transaction amount, which actually matched the 2016 transaction shown on the screen...

Yeah it was posted upthread about an hour ago that the finger was photoshopped. The picture is a fake.

I really wish people would learn what the word “innovation” means. A photoshop fake is hardly innovative
The non-rounded corners in the bezels suggests to me that it’s fake.

I’m guessing the new MBPs should and will visually match both the bezels in the iPhone 11 and iPad Pro.
