Ugh, when will I finally get to upgrade my 4S?!But wait until you see the iPhone 19!
Retrain it. Only takes 20 seconds and has always worked for me with past iPhones.I've been having more and more problems with FaceID on my 13 Pro. It used to work great but sometimes it won't trigger at all. Three tries and you're locked out, and have to use a password. The frequency it fails has forced me to pick a simpler password, lowering overall security.
I really wish they would add TouchID to the power button like on the iPads.
This is another one of those I’ll believe it when I see it things.
I like it.I can't be the only one who thinks Dynamic Island is taking up too much vertical space. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the screen.
If I wanted a hole punch I'd buy an Android 😏
The "iPhone 17 Pro" will be the first iPhone to feature under-panel Face ID technology, according to display analyst Ross Young.

In an updated roadmap shared on Twitter earlier today, Young claimed that the under-display Face ID technology will still be accompanied by a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. This implementation is expected to persist until 2027's "Pro" iPhone models, which will also move the camera under the display for a true "all screen" appearance.
The forecast differs from Young's initial roadmap shared in May 2022. Previously, he expected 2024's iPhone 16 Pro models to be the first to feature under-panel Face ID technology. Last month, Young said that this one-year delay was due to "sensor issues." The change means that the two display cutouts that currently compose the Dynamic Island will apparently persist unchanged through three successive "Pro" iPhone generations.
Young also said that the standard iPhone 17 models will adopt ProMotion, a feature that is currently exclusive to Apple's high-end devices.

I hate durable, functional devices too.If we’re still dealing with the same old metal / glass slab form factor come iphone 17 then I’d say there are bigger problems..
Why are you concerned about something which isn’t an issue?I’d be more concerned about the shift key on that keyboard, personally, but to each their own!
Polarised is the problem, I had to get some non polarised ones, which I'm actually happier with...so a win win 😊Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I tried to scan my face with sunglasses on and iOS explicitly told me that Face ID does not work with sunglasses. With that being said, mine are polarized, and that's very likely to throw off the infrared beams by deflecting them.
Face ID works with my high quality polarized prescription sunglasses.Polarised is the problem, I had to get some non polarised ones, which I'm actually happier with...so a win win 😊
Problem is most cheap sun glasses are polarised.
I never had problems with my clip-on sunglasses either. There must be some variability.Face ID works with my high quality polarized prescription sunglasses.
And with the 15 Pro, you don’t even get the extra zoom (periscope lens) so unless USB-C and additional battery life really floats your boat, it’s probably worth skipping unless your current phone is really old.14 - worthwhile major update
15 - seems to be meh, as expected, unless you need zoom
16 - cameras should have been under the display
17 - was expecting foldable
Probably… But their Face ID is laughable when it’s not under a display. Can’t imagine how unreliable it is when hidden.Doesn't Android already have this?
Well, there be a foldable AND rectangle 14pro (max) as well. Foldable will be much costly verses rectangle form factor. And with the 15 Pro, you don’t even get the extra zoom (periscope lens) so unless USB-C and additional battery life really floats your boat, it’s probably worth skipping unless your current phone is really old.

And you would probably be expecting a price of $2,000 if the 17 materialized to be foldable.
I've been feeling that way more and more just about tech in general lately. We have hit a sort of plateau where a lot of tech could just be as good as it needs to be, but to keep making money they just keep changing **** so it's never optimal. Instead everything is geared around getting you to pay for more subscriptions and having more and more advertisements pushed in your face all the time. A lot of tech I have been enthusiastic about in the past has been ruined by the never ending need to make more profit.I get less and less excited for new iPhones the worse and worse iOS gets
I don't want Face ID. It doesn't work with sunglasses, it doesn't work from weird angles, etc. (It's all for safety and security reasons, but it's nonetheless a headache).
None of these problems exist with Touch ID, which works reliably in all situations except rain and gloves. It can easily be incorporated under the display using existing technology.
I hear ya. I think increasingly many of these developments don’t move me too much. Nice to have but meh, also couldn’t care less.I think the part of my brain devoted to keeping track of device/software generations has atrophied.
Exactly, the passage I quoted was totally fine. Got a laugh out of one person at least from the reactions received. Why are you concerned about something which isn’t an issue?
That’s the problem: it feels “wild” because the frame to look at the issue doesn’t really capture the picture. It’s not hard to create a single cutout for a camera. Design as a discipline isn’t just about looks though. Design incorporates problem solving and not just aesthetics.Looking at it from a purely visual/design standpoint and ignoring the tech for a moment it's pretty wild that it'll take Apple until 2025 to put out a phone with a single camera cutout when Android phones had it since like 2019.
