Again, this notion is outdated. Its not 2008 anymore ppl. Twitter > BBM. Shiny > Ugly. Touchscreen keys > keyboard. Its only a matter of a couple years till this is polarizingly clear. For now there are pockets of transitioning friends/social circles but as people are having more opportunity to see real iphones and become jealous its transitioning. Even if someone decides they will move, it could still be 1 to 2 years before they actually move over.

Nobody gets wild about any other devices like the iPhone.

I pulled out my phone in a Gamestop just to check the time, and from accross the room: "oh you got the four?" and soon a 6 people gathered around me while I showed them the gun game with the gyroscope controlled shooting range. They were almost shrieking.

Sorry - but look at your environment in that example. You were at a gamestop whipping out the latest gadget.

When I showed up at work with my iPhone 4 no one cared. And that's fine. But again - no one cared. I think one person asked if I had a reception problem like they read about.

One scenario (yours or mine) doesn't make it a "rule"

Take a look at what you wrote. How would I "win" by walking away from the discussion? How would that display a desire to win. The logic is faulty at best.

And what do you think I have to be insecure about? My viewpoint? No - I'm perfectly secure on that - but thanks for the dime store psychoanalysis LOL

Insecurity is the source of your motivation, not the nature of your viewpoint. Lol. Im actually a psychologist, so its not exactly "dime store," its real.

And yes someone can win by taking the higher road. This is a public forum, and the audience/readers could come to such a conclusion if someone seems more mature than another. Something the readers could relate to. Making me look foolish and making you look like the better man -and by extension adding weight to your opinion in an artificial way. Not by straight logic but character attacks.

And no its not easier to type on a real keyboard than a touch screen. Thats a myth propagated by simpletons with no first hand experience. And it takes a few days to get the true experience after your mind warms up to the habit of doing it naturally. Some could say this is an element that makes it hard for beginners but with any device, you get better as you practice typing on it.

So a comparison should be made by someone who has mastered both, not a simpleton who has a hard time comprehending the concept of typing and finds it challenging to tap virtual buttons on a screen.

This is what needs to happen - exactly. Why? The appstore is too fragmented. Lots of great apps - but a lot of overlap. The "buy in" to anyone one app isn't great enough to make it "universal."

It would need to be part of the core apps Apple distributes and integrates into the OS to gain any traction. I "have" What's App. and a few others. I don't use them anymore (not after the first week when they were novelty) because most of the people I know have one of the many programs or none at all. So I have to figure out which app to open to make sure that friend has that app before sending? no. Not worth it... easier to txt.

RIM's BBM works and works well because it's simple and it's on every single phone. And it's 100 percent free.

Exactly. I got WhatsApp the other day and a friend of mine came onto "My Favorites". I asked him, "oh you must have gotten the App on your bbm too now (he switched)" and he is like... "No, it was on my 3G". He doesn't even have the phone, yet he is showing up online.
People will never understand BBM until they have experienced it.

To me, its like the iPad... everyone just says that its a big iPod Touch until have used it and experienced it. Same goes with people saying BBM is just like texting...

LOL. Twitter > BBM? um. NO. I don't know anybody who chats on Twitter, instantaneously. It is not private (DM is), but nobody is checking that and especially on the iPhone, is there even push? The Twitter for BlackBerry is great, but iPhone no.

Also, Touchscreen > Physical keyboard? um. NO. My 9700 Keyboard > iPhone 4 keyboard. My MacBook keyboard > iPad keyboard.
I have seen many people of all ages use a BlackBerry, very easily. The iPhone 4 takes a little more getting used to and too many errors on touch keys. Ask the business consumers, I think it is going to be very difficult to convince them that touch keys are > keyboard.
Nice try, but no.

Also, oh cool you have the iPhone 4 and people came and wanted to have a look. So what, I would actually want to keep my phone on the DL. Also, the novelty wears off. I download many games, play them for a bit, and then its like "meh". There is an iPod touch that is more or less similar for the apps.
Let them shriek.

Well considering Canadians' very identity is based on a self righteous contempt for culture and celebrates everything that is counterculture, I guess one way to look at what you said is that its all true considering its all ass-backwards.

So yes nobody does use Twitter on the iPhone (even though has a prolific ammount of app options including push)

Yeah sure, you make more errors on iPhone 4 despite the auto-correct and the fact that its faster.

Yeah sure, bring the ipad into the argument because its relevant and has the same size keys.

Yeah youre real in touch with America...

(not)

The point is people DO shriek, and nobody gives a damn about BB anymore, they havent for a couple years and its continuing to decline. Soon the examples you have that are pro-BB will switch when they get jealous of the rest of the world.

I think you're more concerned with proving how you can psychoanalyze someone you don't know from a post or two to show your "expertise" vs acknowledging the fact that I simply don't want to engage in the discussion with you. Not out of insecurity or anything. Perhaps you're familiar with the expression "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar"

You still sound VERY young to me. And by that - I mean under 25. I could be wrong. You could also be lying about your profession. I don't really care. Sincerely.

But your statements about behavior and typing skills on both keyboards tactile and touch are nothing more than your opinion which you are trying to pass off as fact.

And anyone reading this thread with any semblance of intelligence will recognize that. A myth? Please. I'm not suggesting that people get better over time. But it's "easier" on a touch keyboard? 100 percent subjective.

I've mastered both. I tolerate/am fine with the i4 for typing. I "prefer" a tactile keyboard.

And I don't have to call anyone a simpleton just because they prefer one over the other. It's personal preference.

"not" ....

See - this is what I am talking about. Your anger and usage of phrases like "not" makes you sound young.

And your bashing someone because of the country they live in simply because it's the country they live in makes be doubt sincerely that you're a psychologist. Maybe a student. But if you're a psychologist and make such snap judgements and then POST them makes you a very poor one. Or one that doesn't stop to think before they post.

In a low level corporation I can see this but no way in a big corporation would they switch to Apple.

You're right. That's why over a year ago, 1 in 5 Fortune 100 companies had already ordered at least 10,000 iPhones to issue to employees, and several had ordered over 25,000. The median number of employees in a Fortune 100 company in 20098 was around 80,000, so you're talking anywhere from 1 in 8 to 1 in 3 employees at those firms being issued an iPhone. As of LAST year.

LOL, you are going to bring in Canada vs. America. Whatever.

Well I don't want to go pay for apps for push notification, and please don't tell me that Twitter is a replacement for BBM. No, just no. The free Twitter for BlackBerry is great and I use Twitter, but not for things you may text/IM for.

Yes, infact typing on an iPhone can be an annoyance sometimes because of the auto-correct. I may be trying to type something and don't want the auto-correct, but I would have to turn it off and then turn it back on. The auto-correct is great, but with the BB I just have more freedom when I want to type someone's name that may not be in the dictionary, or even the word "yo" gets changed. It slows me down when I have to click on the little x when I don't want it to auto-correct, or I have to erase and re-type.

I don't have anything against a touch-keyboard, but you can't say its > physical. I see many people type fast on touch-keys and it does become personal preference and takes getting used to.
It is a personal preference, but not a fact. For me, personally I prefer the physical keyboard, but can use a touch-key if necessary.

Yes, I will bring the iPad into argument because you said touch keys > physical keys. I am just pointing out another option where this may not be true.

In touch with America? What are you going on about...

I don't care if people shriek at the iPhone 4. Many people will turn heads at a BlackBerry 9800, but who cares. Its a phone, a few months from now it will be oudated, that is technology. Don't say nobody gives a damn about BB, because they do. LOl jealous of the world? Please...

I told you before I use an iPhone 4 and a BlackBerry 9700. I love the iPhone 4, but BBM is what keeps me going back to the 9700. Also, it has superior reception, even in Canada. The iPhone 4 is great for the apps and the screen, but the apps lose their novelty fast, imo.

Everyone has their own opinion and personal choice, but without the experience and given the facts, you can't say that BB is going to die out.

I'll add that the nice thing about when I had my blackberry is that I could type without looking at the phone - I had gotten that proficient in knowing where the keys were While I can type quickly on my iPhone - it's not even in the same realm of possibility to do the same.

Yeah same. I can type fast on an iPhone and a BB, but if I had both phones lying on a table and had to send a quick e-mail, I would reach for my BB.
If I had to message a friend (who owned a BB), I would reach for my BB and BBM them, rather than text.
It is personal preference, I agree.

That is why I am saying, the world will not be jealous. The world has an option to get an iPhone 4 or a BlackBerry (9800). Majority of my friends are going to get the BlackBerry. Big deal, the guy above chose an iPhone 4.
Hey, at least with my BlackBerry I am not hanging up on people, putting them on hold, or trying to facetime while in a call.

Your attacks at a perceived youthful slant in my writing betrays the ageism that corroborates my earlier theories that you suffer from insecurity.

Your stubborn choice to decide firmly that you PREFER button-typing and TOLERATE virtual typing parallels the cliche attitude of regression where you think, out of stubborn pride and fear of change, that things get progressively worse and society is getting dumber and culture is crumbling.

"Back in MY day!" said grandpa.

So the choices you make stem from fear and even hatred which in turn make your opinions irrelevant compared to someone with reason.

You champion that everything is subjective because thats all you have to hide behind like a child.

When in fact my opinions are more correct than yours because I dont have a chip on my shoulder skewing my logic and warping my common sense.

The fact is that typing on a iPhone keyboard is faster than a button keyboard and most other virtual keyboards and anyone trying to say typing on the iPhone is hard is just a hater propagating a myth borne out of ignorance.

Quit while your behind. I'm not convinced you're not a psychologist. You're just ranting. And using straw man arguments and trying to make assertions about what I've said/meant which are so far from reality it's almost scary. And you definitely have a chip on your shoulder which is warping your logic and common sense. Just because you say you don't doesn't make it so any more than Apple saying there's no antenna issue.

I blame myself though - I shouldn't have re-engaged you in conversation. So I apologize for that failing. It's a mistake I won't be repeating

Oh yeah? If it's so far from the truth than what ARE you like? What are you really? You're on an iPhone message board trying to talk up your dying company, I'm sure you don't own a 4, and you're over here trying to badmouth the best phone out using a phone that hasn't even come out, and you're telling me you're NOT a hater and that couldn't be further from the truth?

Well what ARE you then? If you don't respond it's clear I was right and you were wrong.

What is the point in arguing?
There is no right and wrong. He said he won't respond, so he won't respond. Doesn't mean he is wrong. And after this neither will I. I too realize that arguing with you is a lost cause.

SamCraig and I are both not hating on the iPhone 4. We both have used iPhones and BBs (hence, the experience and personal preference references). So, you have no right to call out haters.

Both phones have their pros and cons. Simple as that. I hope we all learned something here today, we live in a free country... we have opinions and choices. Ones preference may be different than anothers.

Oh, one last thing. I can pretty much tell you that the BlackBerry is not dying. There will be iPhone users and there will be BlackBerry users (there are tons of models to choose from; the 9800 will compete with the iPhone 4).

BBM is a pretty cool app but, anyone over the age of 18 who uses that and sms as a form of communication wants there heads examining

See, it is like this.

Some people actually want something more simple. I'm actually glad RiM is still relevant because I am getting sick and tired of the all-touchscreen device that attracts germs and fingerprints all day.

They don't want a fingerprint magnet with ZERO tactile feedback. They want to make a phone call (RIM has a better reception reputation than Apple), and send messages (texting/email). That's it. Many of these busy people actually have lives outside their phones. No time sitting around playing Plants vs Zombies or watching movies on their phone like the pimpled faced kid, or the guy who still lives with mommy and daddy, or the lonely people with no significant other or friends

When the GameCube ranked third in sales worldwide, Nintendo still made money because it didn't sell them at a loss and sold premium priced games unlike what Sony did. It didn't deal with piracy as bad as Sony either even though Sony sold over 100 million PS2's. At the end, it is all about money and reaching a goal.

Apple fans, go outside more and stop worrying about other people's own issues. Throwing them under a bus and you all sound just as bad as Steve Jobs. Just because it sells the most doesn't make it better. When the Backstreet Boys sold over millions of albums over Bob Dylan, does that make them better "artists" than him? Do you think Microsoft Windows is a work of art because it kicked Apple's ass in the desktop space? No.

Ok. I'll bite. How many CEOs do you actually know. As in - know well enough to know their phone habits and what they do or don't do. Sincerely - how many make up your sample size and your statement/generalization?
5 CEO's of a variety of different companies. I live in Cincinnati Ohio, and you probably don't know this but Cincinnati is just FULL of corporate headquarters: P&G, A plethora of insurance companies, Macy's, Jergens. And there are loads of big corporate outposts here, as well. I also have laughed at CFO's, Human Resources VP's, and other titled folk. Then there is the mammoth University of Cincinnati (35,000 people attend that--with hoards of Deans, VP's, Chancellors, and such), and the rash of smaller companies with lots of CEO's, CFO's and other C's. So, Mr. Smartiepants, I sure do know a load of CEO's, and I get to observe their phone habits because I belong to a bunch of different organizations which put me across the table from said CEO's (husband is in the law). I am also a CEO, and I know my phone habits pretty well, too.

I have shown a few how to do a few tasks with their phones. I think a lot of them should learn to balance their phones on their noses like seals balancing balls, they would be more useful to the rest of us and their stockholders, but being useful normally isn't in their list of things to do.

I do a lot of snickering in private at the way most corporate higher ups approach their phones. No curiosity at all. None. Zip. A grunt from the IT department showed them how to get their e-mail, send e-mail and answer the phone. That's it. Pathetic.

Wow. Why is that pathetic? Why do they need to know or concern themselves beyond the tasks they need to accomplish like email or looking at their calendar or making a call.

You certainly have a contempt for the people you encounter - especially if you are "snickering" at them behind their back. To each their own. 5 CEOs also isn't a LOT of CEOs. But that doesn't matter. The rest of your post is very telling of your attitude.

Ha ha. You already got outed for lying about your profession and your obivous age (you work at Gamestop!)

But it should be clear that the people who have posted here have stated all along that we think the iPhone 4 is awesome but not as good at performing the functions we need it to. That is the push email, BBM and physical keyboard.

I want to assure your ego that we all think you're cool for having the new iPhone 4 and I hope you score with lots of girls because of it.

Better?

What? Using text shows signs of immaturity? Why? It's just another form of communication. Everyone I know, for the most part, texts...young and old. BBM is great and I wish the iPhone had something similar. A free messaging app to use with the tens of people I know with iPhones.

The BB will always have a market. So many college students own one. I would say that the majority of people I see on campus have a BB or an iPhone. I hardly see Android as I think the names of the other two companies still resonate among students as trendy and cool. Android hasn't accomplished that yet. On top of students, you have businesses and celebrities (all of Hollywood) who rely on BB's e-mail and BBM functions.

If I were to get rid of my iPhone, I would seriously look at the Torch or a Bold. No, the app store isn't near as good, nor is the multimedia capabilities, but it serves a different purpose than the iPhone...and that's not a bad thing.

Good reply. i don't know why people can't just understand that there is a place in the world for more than one phone to be great.

As long as the person using the phone is happy then who cares what product they have.

I still say that a BB partnered with an iPod Touch is the best way to go (IMO)

If only I could teethe my BB to an iPod touch I would definitely be on this. But for now I have both and have to switch sims back and forth.

I hate to say it but seriously, everyone I know with a PDA phone has a Blackberry. I don't know one person who has an iPhone.

I know a few teenagers that have them and they use texting more than BBM because a lot of their friends just have standard type cellphones.

I get that the iPhone is very cool and is a great multi-media device. I know because I have an iPod Touch and it has all those great features.

But seriously, if you're trying to compare standard text messaging to BBM you obviously don't know what you are taking about.

I have used bbm, terrible. Texting has certainly surpassed it with the advent of modern smart phones.

Now, if Apple would integrate iChat that would be great! Not many people I know use IM anymore, especially on their phones.

Modern communication will be the form of texting, Facebook, Twitter, etc...

Although his comparison was a bit comical, the point is correct and BB does not have a superior email solution.

Gmail + Mail on iPhone is first of all push capable. Push email is not special or hard to find.

Gmail + Mail is superior to BB mail because you can access it from everywhere. not just your email account but from any email access point be it a browser or even some little built in applet on a dumb phone.

And unless you work for the Government, you dont need encrypted email. Who do you think you are? Bond? What does the common person need? Better accessibility or industrial grade encryption?

I have to dis-agree with you, I work in Health Care and require encrypted email. They won't look at anything for email except BB. The iPhone is a great consumer model, but really doesn't meet the needs of most business customers. My 2 cents!!!

Hey, at least with my BlackBerry I am not hanging up on people, putting them on hold, or trying to facetime while in a call.

Neither am I... With my iphone 4. Unless of course I choose to end a call, place someone on hold, or start a face time call by using my finger.
