You already saw the event and know all the info?
No, just going from the rumors. Don't get me wrong; I'm very happy to have the ports back, and I'll probably buy one just for the speed. I hope I'm wrong, and they do something amazing. For example, I'd love to see 20 hours of battery life, a cellular radio, or a 800 nit brightness screen.

Still can't believe that Apple has jumped the gun and just announced an Apple event for next Monday....the time is passing by like molasses folks!

Get something to do! I can't wait....gahhhhh...the suspense is killing me....

Looking forward to your redesign but the M1s are a gimped. Bootcamp added serious value to MBPs for many of us. Just not a fan of virtualisation. Messy, clunky.

The HDMI, SD, and MagSafe specs were already leaked months ago.

Jumped the gun? They were actually comparatively late this time. Usually they give 7 days notice, not 6 days.

Jumped the gun in the sense that there was no hint or anything from any leakers that could've possibly led to October 18 being chosen as the date for the reveal of the MacBook Pros...

I think last year, there was some indication by the leakers that a Nov event would be done for the new M1 Macs...

Same here. A new M1X MBP would be a great piece of candy, and is something I was planning on transitioning to from my M1 MBA.

But in the almost 1 year that I've had my MBA, it has been a delight to use. Every. Single. Day. It's fast, compact, weighs little, has a decent screen, great keyboard, and a long lasting battery. Zero issues.

No need to upgrade for me.

I thought my M1 MBP was going to be transitional. More or less a placeholder while I waited for the real “pro” machines. But, honestly, its been one of the best macs I have ever owned and performance for most things exceed what I can humanly process. In other words, I rarely wait for anything. There are things I have rendered out that do take time and I know a beefier machine is needed to do those tasks more efficiently, but those are edge cases that don’t come up often. For 95% of what I do, this machine is enough. It will remain enough until the data density of what I am required to output increases at some distant point in the future.

That was my conclusion as well. Even running X-Plane at a decent rate was a surprise, especially since it isn't native.

I don’t know about the SD card slot, but the justification for an HDMI port is that USB/Thunderbolt can‘t support the maximum bandwidth necessary for HDMI 2.1.
I think there may be another angle. In the Intel world, some ports required adding extra chips to the motherboard. The M1 was Apple's first laptop/desktop CPU, and was designed to be fast, yes, but also... relatively modest - make dead sure that everything works, and replace the low-end machines in the Mac lineup. With the new chip (M1X?), they now have proof that the base configuration works, and can focus on adding in all the other bits that they want. There's nothing stopping Apple from including support circuitry for more different i/o devices in the M1X. So, where adding peripherals in the Intel days meant potentially adding more chips to the design, and debates about if adding some port or another was worth the cost in space, thermals, and actual price, now it merely means figuring out in advance what you want and adding it to the todo list for the chip designers. Now the "barrier to entry" cost (not just price, but space, thermal budget, etc.) is much lower, for adding new ports and such.

That was, in general, I think, one of their motivating factors for designing their own chips - with Intel, they had to sort of scavenge around in the list of chips that Intel deigned to build, to figure out what would work best for Apple's needs. Now they can ask their own designers to build whatever they really want (in terms of performance, capacities, and available capabilities), and then the parts are there "for free" on the silicon.

It has been one hell of a wait this is going to be a epic release. Hopefully I can treasure the moment by securing one on launch day.

This place is full of rumours based upon rumours and NOT ONE said the event would be on a Monday. Sad really. Perhaps it's time to get a real life.
Here, I'll go out on a limb for next year, predicting a whole year in advance:

  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Sunday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Monday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Tuesday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Wednesday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Thursday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Friday!
  • I predict the Fall 2022 Mac event will be held on a Saturday!
Come back here, a year from now, and I bet you one of those will be right. ;)

It is currently already 512/16 for base configuration.

The 16" MBP already defaults to 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. The 13" starts at 8/256 but it is not hard to imagine that any new M-series MBPs would both start at 16/512.

As Boak points out the Intel 13" MBP also starts at 16/512, so it's a safe bet that the new MBPs of both sizes will start at least at that level.
I was referring to the 13" M1 and I totally didn't think of the 16" already starting out at 16/512. Then yeah, it would make sense for them to offer it as the base for both.

Oh dear, don't watch it then!

Mate Google’s event is on Tuesday hence Apple’s event is on Monday.
