A battery life test by Arun Maini of the YouTube channel Mrwhosetheboss found that the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max had significant leads in battery runtimes compared to the newer iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a 2,815 mAh battery, which is not only lower in terms of actual capacity than the previous generation but also powers larger and higher resolution displays leading to lower runtimes.

First time a new phone had a much worse battery experience than its predecessor. Apple wisely wanted to sell as many of these as possible before the Max is released which offers decent battery life. 6 hours of battery life is a joke and that assumes you are not on 5G much.

12 series is an upgrade in battery life from literally any other iPhone generation besides the 11, and the average iPhone owner upgrades every 4 years. So this will only affect the small amount of tech enthusiasts who upgrade yearly, not the general consumer. Even then the 12s seem to beat the 11 which has great battery life; they are just worse than the 11 pros. I personally wished they had increased the battery size but this thread exaggerates the problem.

These so called tests are mostly crap anyway. No one uses their phone like that. I’ve been known to get over 10 hours of screen on time with my iPhone 11 (this test rates the 11 at 5 hours 8 mins) and still have battery left. I’d rate my 11 as having outstanding battery life. The test rates the 12 higher than the 11. Sign me up if it’s true!

Test means nothing other than a rough guide, let’s wait for the proper in depth tests first. It could have still been indexing, Settings could be all different, battery health can be different.

For example my 12 Pro was bought on Friday, it’s got better with every charge in terms of battery life with it settling down software wise.

There are moments in the video where the phone’s battery percentages can’t be right as if it was either editing wrong, a task was set up wrong or something.

Also, these people rely on viewers, like etc...
getting the first controversial battery test video out into the public domain I can’t imagine has done his channel any negativity.

I would give more credit to people than think they are idiots and attempt a sensationalistic "public service".

I just got my iphone 12 pro 3 days. From 11pro previously.
My job is roam around Singapore to do site survey (& take lot of picture for documentation); & unlike office warrior who able to charge their iphone in office once the batt got low; I only have full morning charged iphone and it need to last me thru out a day.

My usage is
listening Music(while taking transport maybe 3h) on airpod pro
watching TV in the lunch time(20min)
Take lots of picture on site.
Reply Whatapps message
occasionally CCTV viewing
occasionally read push email

11pro can last me thru reaching home from 6am to 8pm about 30% left. But my 12Pro will only be 5%. It remind me of Applewatch 5 that I have to constantly check for battery. I am so ready to return & either got the max or switch back to 11pro.

The reason I come to this forum is for some of it’s entertainment value, and this thread here is an example. My 12 pro is just fine and have no real complaints. Yes, it would be nice to have a battery that last a week, but I am a realist and I know that’s not gonna happen anytime soon.

Completely agreed on all points.

A very small percentage of people will be coming from a 11 Pro to the 12 series.

I think the 12 series will be a great upgrade for those coming from Xr/Xs/Xs Max and older, it’s a nice jump in fact, the cameras alone are far more versatile.

Something that I loved when coming from my Xs Max to my 11 Pro Max was the Wide Angle Camera, that alone transformed the experience of iPhone photography, and Night Mode took it to a new level to.

I used my iPhone 12 Pro from 7am to 7pm draining the battery almost completely. My day included about 4 hours of driving with navigation and over 30 minutes of taking photos and videos on site. When looking at the battery graph in settings, the photo/video session had drained the battery very quickly. I believe it's the combination of LIDAR, camera processing and bright HDR screen that taxes the battery.

Coming from an iPhone X the battery life is amazing.

I mean this isn't really surprising. They've got a smaller battery in them and have more to power inside the phone. I don't care how efficient the a14 is, it isn't efficient enough to get around a smaller battery inside the phone to get the same battery life as the previous model with a larger battery.

When Apple gets on stage and says "Same great battery life as previous model" they have to say that. What are they gonna say "Well the battery life is going to take a hit this year, sorry." Anyone who is surprised by this shouldn't be.
