In my many years of being a member on Macrumors I’ve yet to meet or know a local personal friend/family member who talks about their phones battery life. I do believe only in forums people complain about battery life/colors/what a new iPhone should’ve featured. I currently use 11 Pro Max and in my opinion that’s the best battery life I’ve ever gotten on any iPhone. I will be upgrading to 12 pro Max come November as I’m on Apple UP. Seriously there’s many people out there who simply don’t worry about battery life. Currently it isn’t horrible. If anything connect you’re phone during the day for 30 mins at your desk charger. Or while you make a drive. I’m currently 38. I got my first cell phone at age of 17. Since then I’ve always left my cell phone charging overnight while I sleep. I’m one of those who prefers to wake up to my phone at 100%.

My battery life has been completely normal/fine/unremarkable so far. I was at a soccer tournament most of the weekend. The phone had plenty of power at the end of the day.

I believe that real-world tests matter more than just looping tests. I am still a little unsure of the iPhone 12’s real world battery life, as I haven’t seen screenshots shared.

I don’t think a looping test represents real world use, and results will vary significantly depending on usage. I wouldn’t conclude too much about the battery life based on that.

Correct. If people are nit picking and testing the battery to its limits then results will vary and most likely not a content score. Then there are people like me who turn off unnecessary battery hogging items on the phone. Who live a normal life. Battery life is a secondary thing.

If you’re out and about battery life is of paramount importance , definitely is to me

Not everyone or everywhere has adequate charging facilities, been caught short a few times

People that are looking at the raw numbers for the battery life in the test noted are missing the point. It is a comparative test. You compare the phone you have and if the iPhone 12/Pro has better battery life then you model (if it was used in the test above) then you should be old. For me, both iPhone 12 and Pro models outlasted the XR (phone I'm currently using), so either phone should be an improvement for me. There is no 5G in my city at the moment so that will have no impact in my battery life.

My usage is
listening Music(while taking transport maybe 3h) on airpod pro
watching TV in the lunch time(20min)
Take lots of picture on site.

I don’t know whether the 12 outlasts the Xʀ. The test seems to be comparing an iPhone Xʀ on iOS 14 to the 12 on its original iOS version. That’s not indicative of a better battery life, as iOS updates impact battery life significantly. The Xʀ is considerably worse on iOS 14 when compared to iOS 12, so it’s not really comparable. It might be better for you specifically - because you update - but you’d be comparing Apples to oranges. Imagine if I compared the battery life of the 12 to the 6s on iOS 14 (which is absolutely pathetic), I’d really wouldn’t be comparing anything, the comparison is meaningless.

From what I can tell, my iPhone 12 pro is on par with my year old iPhone 11 Pro. The biggest hit to battery life is iOS 14. I had to do the complete wipe of the 11 pro and restore from backup to get the battery life under control about 3 weeks ago. For me since upgrading to iOS 14, the battery life has never been the same. It’s not bad, just not as good.

For me the 12 pro is the same battery life as a 95% capacity battery 11 pro. Gets me through a day with no problems at all.

If you can get by with 7.5 hours but not 6.5 you're flying pretty close to the sun anyway and should probably just carry a battery pack with you.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually use their devices without seeking out confirmation.

FWIW, my 12 Pro has been great in the two days I've had it.

Mixed usage of Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, and casual browsing "all day" and the battery has been stellar.

As with everything in life, YMMV.

A few times is what drives your whole world view? I’m old enough to remember when no one had cell phones anywhere on any day and it all seemed to work out ok. If your phone battery dies “a few times” on you, you’re going to be just fine. Breathe in, breathe out. There is a whole world around you.

Not trying to single you out but the level of cell phone addiction in the world is disheartening to see.

I was on my phone all day yesterday from about 8:00 AM until around 11:30 last night, using it like a human being texting, web browsing, played a few games, watched a few youtube videos, made a few phone calls. I was not deliberately doing what I could to TRY to run it down to nothing and when I put it on the puck at bed time it was down to about 30%. I didn't do anything especially crazy with it, but a full day of normal use was fine for it.

Screen-on time?

My battery life seems pretty good.

I just got my iphone 12 pro 3 days. From 11pro previously.
My job is roam around Singapore to do site survey (& take lot of picture for documentation); & unlike office warrior who able to charge their iphone in office once the batt got low; I only have full morning charged iphone and it need to last me thru out a day.

My usage is
listening Music(while taking transport maybe 3h) on airpod pro
watching TV in the lunch time(20min)

11pro can last me thru reaching home from 6am to 8pm about 30% left. But my 12Pro will only be 5%. It remind me of Applewatch 5 that I have to constantly check for battery. I am so ready to return & either got the max or switch back to 11pro.
There's so much cognitive dissonance in these replies. Apple can never do any wrong so shoot the messenger. This post above is not aggressive use and you can see the massive degradation in battery performance. Buying $1000 for a new phone should be an UPGRADE. Not just sharp edges and a lousy, smaller battery. I mean this is ridiculous but the defense of Apple at all costs is why they are allowed to continue doing this to us loyal buyers.

The reason I come to this forum is for some of it’s entertainment value, and this thread here is an example. My 12 pro is just fine and have no real complaints. Yes, it would be nice to have a battery that last a week, but I am a realist and I know that’s not gonna happen anytime soon.
A week? It is lasting 6 hours. Would be nice to at least cover an average work day with commuting time.

12 series is an upgrade in battery life from literally any other iPhone generation besides the 11, and the average iPhone owner upgrades every 4 years. So this will only affect the small amount of tech enthusiasts who upgrade yearly, not the general consumer. Even then the 12s seem to beat the 11 which has great battery life; they are just worse than the 11 pros. I personally wished they had increased the battery size but this thread exaggerates the problem.
The only comparison is 11 to 12. And if the battery is worse that is a significant issue especially at the MAX level.

Ok so if you just browse the web then you're only using 5% of the phone's functionality. Many people use video, do some gaming, photos, etc. Yes, if you only check social media once an hour I'm sure you'll be fine but then again you don't need an iPhone for that.
