I'm at home most of the day with chargers around, and I have a charger in my car. I don't foresee being stranded in the wilderness with no method of charging any time soon, so I'll keep mine.

I don't understand this logic. Being tethered defeats purpose of a mobile phone. Phone should not have been worse than its predecessor.

A battery life test by Arun Maini of the YouTube channel Mrwhosetheboss found that the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max had significant leads in battery runtimes compared to the newer iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a 2,815 mAh battery, which is not only lower in terms of actual capacity than the previous generation but also powers larger and higher resolution displays leading to lower runtimes.

First time a new phone had a much worse battery experience than its predecessor. Apple wisely wanted to sell as many of these as possible before the Max is released which offers decent battery life. 6 hours of battery life is a joke and that assumes you are not on 5G much.
How about we try the following...

The YouTube guy and all the other tech movie star wannabes can keep posting whatever clickbait revenue producing drivel they want, and me and those here who like to think for themselves, will make our own buying decisions as well as determining whether a phone is returned based on individual usage and not because YouTube, you or anyone else tells us.

what's your usage? just casual browsing, email etc?

Conference calls, Microsoft teams, zoom, Spotify, email, watching YouTube videos while working out for an hour at the gym, etc.

Really hard to break down specifically the amount of time spent but it’s also too early to say since it’s been only 1 actual work day of usage for me.

Over the weekend, Spotify. YouTube, photos, video, a few games, social, email, FaceTime, etc averaging 6.5 hours of on screen time.

But for sure I don’t just use my phone to look at the battery life :)

I don’t know whether the 12 outlasts the Xʀ. The test seems to be comparing an iPhone Xʀ on iOS 14 to the 12 on its original iOS version. That’s not indicative of a better battery life, as iOS updates impact battery life significantly. The Xʀ is considerably worse on iOS 14 when compared to iOS 12, so it’s not really comparable. It might be better for you specifically - because you update - but you’d be comparing Apples to oranges. Imagine if I compared the battery life of the 12 to the 6s on iOS 14 (which is absolutely pathetic), I’d really wouldn’t be comparing anything, the comparison is meaningless.
I was talking about mrwhoestheboss’s test. Where he made sure everything was consistent across the board (battery health, screen brightness, etc...h

I’m sorry to say this, and I don’t mean to be offensive, but, did you read my post? That, whilst also adding that a looping test doesn’t represent real-world use.

I guess I don't understand why they would decide, after seeing 5G on Android devices, that smaller mAh was a good idea. First iteration of 5G, and they decided a tiny bit slimmer over increased battery was priority.

I know many will say it's just fine but the people coming from the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will notice this immediately.

Why should people listen to a youtuber who can’t spell whos in their username correctly?
I not into many of these tech YouTubers but this guy is pretty good, I think so anyway. I only watch the occasional video here and there but I like his content. And he‘s a seemingly smart guy, we have no idea what his intention was with the name, maybe it was a joke, but the guy definitely isn’t stupid.

exactly! real world use, high use = a day.. . charge at night, no problems!
I’m not an Apple guy or an Android guy. I’ve used both extensively and I don‘t care what anyone says, using a smaller capacity cell from the previous year is unacceptable. Especially considering how great the reviews were on the 11 series last year. I can only dream of what a 4200 mAh cell would be like with Apple’s hardware/software optimizations. It just makes no sense why they take a step forward then do this. Hey, that’s just me, though.

I think this screen shot basically speaks for itself. iPhone 12 Pro. At 65% here at 8PM. Spent like 10 min in the MagSafe charger this afternoon after I unboxed it but even without that I’d still be over 50% on the day.
