Look out superior people that *don't shop at Walmart*!

That condescension looks good on you. Really.
I had the same thought browsing this post. Like holy crap people. You just sound like you think you’re saving the world by not shopping at Walmart. Yeah. Totally gonna go out of business because you won’t shop there.

I try not to go to Walmart anymore for small items like deodorant, shampoo and etc because of this, overcrowding and slow checkout at all times of the day. I just go to Walgreens tap my watch or scan my face and I’m gone.
I don’t understand why anyone would choose a small place with a worse selection like Walgreens over Walmart. Where else do you shop?

I quit shopping at Walmart years ago when they refused to support Apple Pay. I quit Target too.

They were my main stores.

I haven't missed either one in the slightest.

The biggest problem with Walmart Pay is that your credit card is stored on Walmart’s server waiting to be hacked. Apple Pay cannot be hacked because of one time use tokens and Secure Enclave in the phone.

I'm 99% positive my card was hacked from the Walmart app.

There are MANY reports of this happening to other people.

I've learned that you can sort of use Apple Pay to buy gas at Exxon and Mobil stations by using their app. It works fairly well, but occasionally their servers are down and you'll have to swipe.

I can't wait until they install contactless, or AT LEAST chip readers, on all gas pumps. The only place my card has ever been skimmed has been at gas pumps, and I'm tired of having to pay cash to guard against skimmers.

I've been skimmed at three places:

Waitresses
Gas Pumps
Walmart app

I've started paying cash at restaurants.

I use Exxon and Apple pay in their app.

I quit shopping at Walmart.

No more skimming!

:)

Who uses credit cards nowadays???
People who want to use them.

I spent 5 weeks in Canada: Quebec and Ontario. Apple Pay, as a contactless payment, was accepted by 99% of vendors even in most remote parts of Quebec.

I paid with my Apple Watch basically everywhere. In many places they were stunned to see that it was possible to pay with a watch, but yet their terminal accepted Apple Pay. There was almost never any advertisement that Apple Pay was accepted, but because contactless payments are accepted basically everywhere, Apple Pay just works.

Since then, when I returned to the US, I started trying Apple Pay everywhere I shop, and I’m finding out that it works in a lot more places than the ones that display the Apple Pay logo.

Nevertheless, it’s a small fraction of vendors who accept contactless payments in the US, whereas in Canada, almost every vendor accepts contactless payments. Even their vending machines accept Apple Pay.
Depends where you live. I guess Phoenix must be the better Apple Pay areas. I use it pretty much everywhere but Wal-Mart and Target. And every vending machine I’ve seen here accept Apple Pay.

It’s no different than storing your card with Amazon, or another online retailer.

Though I do shop at Walmart (and use Wal-Mart Pay) your local grocery stores and other stores around you not only have Apple Pay, but also are much easier to get to and navigate than Walmart. I can’t replace a Walmart trip with Walgreens but I can with a Costco. But Walmart pickup is just so damn convenient.

I don't understand how this is different than accepting credit cards in general. so stupid. if one works so should the other. Is anyone actually using their dumb QR code system?

Who cares?! Walmart is trash. I try to never step foot in that place and don’t think I’ve spent a penny there in years. Target, Amazon, & Publix are the big holdouts for me. Add them in and I couldn’t care less if Walmart ever supports it.

I already explained why, other places I shop include Jewel-Osco or Trader Joe’s.

I hear the same, then some say they charge less. I love my Discover card. But, I know for sure, no one beats Amex when it comes to merchant fees. Even if they are occasionally matched.
That was one of the main reason why they are not accepted overseas with a lot of merchants.
But gotta love their customer service, unlike Walmart...

I Appreciate the convenience of contactless payment technology offered like everyone else does, but that doesn’t mean that I need to stray away from a store just because they don’t offer a certain service. I don’t shop Walmart in particular, but I don’t have an issue supporting them either regardless if they have Apple Pay or not. They are just another vendor like all the other stores in my area, I’m shopping for what I *need*, not to boycott a retailer because they don’t offer XYZ Service. To each their own.
It’s like the old days of stores that only accepted visa but not MasterCard. You picked where you went because it was more convenient to use your card. Now it’s everywhere. Walmart wants the data, but they wouldn’t have it if I paid cash anyway, so they are basically giving the customer the finger. If they want to link their coupons etc to their solution fine, but don’t block my method of payment because I refuse to give them my credit card info. If I forget my card at home I always have my phone so guess who gets my money.

VISA appears to making a big push for contactless payments from the TV ads etc. Maybe this will push the envelope some. I use Wal-Mart Pay, but it is a pain with so many steps.
Now if Publix would just accept Apple Pay!

Walmart, you stubborn mules! Out of spite, I now use use an AmEx card when shopping there because I know it has the highest merchant fees. But they're lowest priority since they still don't take Apple Pay.

Well we have chip by itself. That's the simple solution Walmart offers. Walmart Pay is of course a stupid idea for them to push, but really almost nobody cares and will just use credit card as usual.

And half the pumps I encounter are debit only. It's ridiculous. Sure they need my PIN too, but if they've got a camera, I'm really screwed. Gotta remember to carry cash!

There isn't a Walmart near me in NYC but Samsung pay comes in handy when I visjty folks back in Indiana. Hell, it comes in handy here too even when the clerk says "no apple pay".
[doublepost=1534911348][/doublepost]
No problem! Like many other posters here, I have no plans of stepping into a Wal-Mart if I can help it. They had to close a wally world here closer to my house because it kept having shootings every week. They thought rebuilding it and moving it closer to the freeway would help. I don't feel safe going there and that is the primary reason I avoid Wal-Mart.

I go out of my way to go to places with Apple Pay. Like the Chevron 10 mins from my house vs 3, the Vallarta 15+ mins from my house vs Staters (2 mins), etc... It's convenient and fun.

That sucks. I love being able to use Samsung pay just about everywhere. Clerks all over look like they've seen a magic trick after they tell me "no apple pay"

Even my favorite hole in the wall banh mi place accepts Apple Pay these days. I’m at the point now where if I know you don’t accept Apple Pay I’m just not going to shop there.

I have to say Target is the most frustrating since they accept it in their app.

From an end user/consumer's point of view: So what. Apple Pay is so not important (to the end user). I used to use Apple Pay exclusively at my nearby grocery store for the last year and yes it was a few seconds faster than using a credit card - if my finger wasn't wet from lifting cold items on to the conveyor but it definitely wasn't any faster or more convenient using it at another store.

I've since moved to a small town where nobody utilizes ApplePay enabled terminals... And I don't miss it one bit. Using a credit card is just as fast.
To all of those moaning & complaining that ApplePay isn't available in your area... I'll let you in on a little secret: so what. It's a gimmick. Totally absolutely unnecessary. I don't miss using it at all.
The only thing that would get me to use something like Apple Pay is if it offered a way to manage receipts and a way to streamline reconciling my receipts to my books in Banktivity.

Good, cause I have exactly ZERO plans to shop at a dumpster store, which tends to attract the lowest common denominator of humanity thru its doors!
Maybe because the lowest common denominator likes paying less than what you'd pay for the exact same items somewhere else, with a wide selection. Of course it depends what you're buying – Costco is better for the different set of things they focus on.

I try to eat at places that are cash only, of which there are many around here. Many small shops hate the credit card fees. Haven't bothered setting up Apple Pay cause only Walgreens uses it.
