Apple mistakenly enabled a page on the Apple Store's newsroom. It's deleted now, but here is the screen cap.

I agree and unfortunately if it is a very minor spec update, the chances are high that the connectors will not be updated. Especially since Apple shipped the Apple TV 4k (Oct `22) with hdmi 2.0 support considering HDMI is the primary connector there.
Given that more professionals use macbooks over Apple TV I'd say 2.1 would be a #1 priority as it would allow Apple to launch a 120hz Pro Display XDR.

Plus TV and movies won't benefit from 2.1.

Like I said earlier the M2 Pro/Max are being prepped as the first M-socs to run xrOS apps, a scheme to kill the M1 along the way. That’s why it needs WiFi6E. Forcing upgrades of the 2021 Macbook Pros just after 1.5 years. That’s the new Apple for you.

The brightest among us will notice that even an iPad might be able to run them later on and there gonna be a lot of damage control for the outrage why the 2021 will be limited or left-out.

Wait. Does Apple consider the 14 and 16 MBP as just one? Or would it be that Apple randomly sends just 1 MBP configuration
I was thinking that too but I think it's MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. I don't see Apple shipping both the 14" or 16" to the reviewers. It's just a difference in screen size.

Also, I will only upgrade if Apple releases a MacBook Pro in Midnight color. Otherwise, it's a big NO-NO.

Yes, but Apple will name these 4nm as they did with the iPhones
No, they won't. M2 Pro/Max will still be based on the A15 cores, which are on TSMC's N5P.

Also, the only chip (Apple or otherwise) being produced on TSMC's 3nm node in 2023 will be the A17. I feel like a lot of MR members are going to be really disappointed when the year comes and goes and it's only the iPhone 15 Ultra or whatever that gets it (and performance improvement will probably be barely noticeable on an iPhone lol)

Apple does not use HDMI port for any of its displays, XDR is not going to use HDMI either; it will be displayport via thunderbolt. They'll prioritize DP 2.0/2.1 instead if they're going to push 120hz at higher resolution.

Also, HDMI 2.1 has a few benefits over 2.0 for TV such as quick media switch, so that you don't get that blanking when switching between modes such as Dolby vision, HDR, etc. Plus gaming since Apple themselves mention gaming as a big benefit for Apple TV box and having VRR + 120hz will help there (not enough hardware for now to push many games to 120fps but it will eventually get M1 or A16 later).

What on earth are you on about.
Apple’s going to kill support for Intel long before they start killing support for M1.
Also, you’ve been able to run augmented reality applications on the iPhone for years.
AR Kit, which if rumors are to be believed is basically the building blocks to the new headset’s operating system, has been available for years.
Also the headset, for the most part will be powered by its own silicon.
So… no.
