A Mac mini refresh is long overdue, although at this point I'm going to wait and see if they also do a new Mac mini redesign when Broadwell is available.

The bad news is, if it took them this long to refresh the Mac mini with Haswell, how long after Broadwell will we have to wait? Another two years?

Are Broadwells not going to be available in QUANTITY in the near term? Maybe Apple sells so few minis that there would be enough for them, but not enough for all of the laptops and iMacs. That'd be great...and I don't even need a new mini. I just like them. :) I just hope they don't screw them up with SSDs. I have 3TB in my mini. I'd have to mortgage my apartment for that much SSD. And, yes, I want all of my files in one package -- the mini -- and not some external box that I'd have to drag around.

My computer is an i5 2011 Mac mini. These are the Macs I love, and I recommend to others if they want a Mac. I have two monitors and 16 GB non-Apple RAM.

Figures. I had been holding out to replace my aging MacBook with a mini, but just last month bit the bullet and got an iMac instead.

You win this time, Apple.

Mini FTW

I like the mini because it's cheap, easy to upgrade, and doesn't have a battery. I'd be willing to get the new mini as long as Apple keeps it easy to swap/add drives and memory. I love the ability to have 2 drives right now, one SSD & one HDD. Will upgrade the memory to 16GB in my mini soon.

Each type of chip that is released should be available in quantity fairly quickly thereafter, but unfortunately Intel releases the different chip types on a rolling schedule. There's talk of a low-power version coming first. Perhaps the type that will power the next generation of windows tablets and so forth (competing with ARM).

I really wouldn't expect a Broadwell mini until 12 months from now, and that's entirely dependent on Intel releasing the type of Broadwell that Apple wants to use in the Mini. You can look into the type of Haswell being used on the Mini, and then compare it to Broadwell rumors, to figure out when you can expect it.

It's worth noting that Broadwell can't be used in the same chipset as a Haswell, so there's a chance of a significant delay, or Apple just skipping Broadwell entirely. Skylake is supposedly still coming in the second half of 2015.

I can understand maybe an iMac & Mac Mini upgrade when Apple launches Yosemite.

I don't see neither the iMac nor Mac Mini retaining an HDD, though, since all other computers have gone solely SSD.

If they launch it with Yosemite, it wouldn't be a 'mid 2014' model anymore.
So if this rumor is true, I assume the refresh is going to happen in August.

It's sad that so many people basically want a nice performing, smaller home version of the Mac Pro but Apple won't make it :(

This maybe a stupid question so be kind:

What's the windows OS version reference all about in the top of the table?
