Perfect! When I logged into my account online and looked up what my data plan was, I saw this:

And to double check I pressed *DATA# to check and got this:

I haven't received any txt or email from AT&T confirming this change... Is it now safe to plug it in my iPhone 4? Is their some kind of txt or email message I should be getting from AT&T confirming the change or something before I plug it into the iPhone 4?

I just cut the card and popped it into my iPhone 4. So far I did a speed test on my iPhone 4, and its getting 3G speeds. I will update and hope to get the confirmation txt about getting grandfathered into the unlimited plan.

I got the txt message this morning saying "blah blah, we changed your plan to fit your phone"

Then I logged into my account and saw I had the unlimited (see image above)

You guys rock so much, I love this forum! Special thanks to robleab (started this thread) and Maschil for the advice!

nope. 200 text only bundles with unlimited edge

Does that mean that when your plan is converted from the $20 unlimited to the $30 unlimited plan via the loophole, your text message plan gets converted to pay-per-use, and you have to select a new text message plan? I'm just trying to understand what specifically happens to your text plan.

Not to sure about the texting part..... i joined on a family plan and we already had unlimted texting...., but it makes sense that you would have unlimted texting, because the grandfather plan was 30 dollars for unlimited data and texting.

Just a note for everyone. My friend out about the trick to get unlimted. and he put his blackberry sim card in my iphone 2g (before i shipped it back), and at first it wasnt working, we checked what his sim card said in the iphone 2g and it read ***** out of 2048..but then he put his sim card back in his phone, thinking that it didn't work. Then he turned his blackberry on and it said that he had to choose between keeping unlimited on his black berry or going to 2 gbs and of course he chose unlimited. He did have to call at&t and the lady said "you've been grandfathered in!" he was paying 25 for 2gbs but now he has unlimited for 30... the black berry plan is slighty different in that he would have to pay extra for texting att all but he did get unlimited which is what he wanted.... also of note is that he didn't even have to get a new inactivated sim card he just switched his activated on into an iphone... so let me know what happens for you all.

No the original iPhone data plan did / does not include unlimited Txt. The $20 origional iPhone data plan included unlimited data and 200 free SMS txt in the special bundle.

So if you use an Original iPhone trick to get the iPhone $30 unlimted data plan, make sure that you select a valid SMS txt plan after the forced change by the system when you switch back to another smartphone.

So when you are converted from the $20 unlimited data/200 text plan to the $30 unlimited plan, you are switched to pay-per-use texts, and you have to select a new text plan? Am I understanding that correctly?

Correct. I think you can pro-rate it though so it's not a big deal.

Heres what my plan was when I did this:

Before I did anything:
$25 - 2GB data
$15 - 1500 text plan

When I activated the iPhone 2G
$20 - unlimited data and 200 text

When I put my SIM into my iPhone 4, it automatically put me in this:
$30 - unlimited data
$5 - 200 text

Since I can't get the $15 1500 text anymore, I picked the $10 1000 text plan.

I LOVE UNLIMITED DATA!!!

strange the grandfathered plan was unlimted data and texting for 30....right? thats what i have now...

That is weird... Are you sure it isn't $30 for unlimited data, and then plus additional money for texting? Theres an option for no texting for $0 also.

Maschil, from what I understand, the grandfathered plan for the original iPhone was $20 for unlimited data and 200 texts in a combined plan, however, for newer iPhones, it was $30 unlimited and additional for texting.

Anyway, thanks jp700p for the answer! I currently have Messaging 200 (MSG1 feature code) and the reason I asked this question was that I wanted to keep my $5 a month texting plan, since that is a perfect amount for me.

It's weird that people are reporting different things happening with texts when doing this loophole. At first, I thought maybe people who did the loophole before the Messaging 200 plan was axed had a $5 text plan added when doing the loophole, while people who did the loophole after were switched to pay-per-use because that 200 plan didn't exist any more... but it looks like you just did the loophole. Someone on HowardForums answered my question and they also kept the $5 a month text plan after doing the loophole in April.... so maybe it's the opposite :p

I had to call them to activate my 2g and switch to unlimited + 200 msg for $20

I took the sim and put it back into my iphone 4. I did get the message a couple of days ago saying that they switched to appropriate plan. But it is still sitting at the same $20 plan.

Did this happen anyone? I would have thought 2 days should be enough to switch over to $30 unlimited plan.
But i am not complaining.

OK, I got an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 2g, took out the iPhone 4 sim, put it into a microsim adapter, and inserted it into the iPhone 2g. I started the iTunes activation process, but I'm having this issue on the first step. What does it mean? I'm on a family plan with a FAN account, and this is not for the primary line.

Never mind, I continued past that screen and activated a couple hours ago. Got two emails from AT&T, "AT&T is now processing your activation, You will receive an email confirmation once your activation is complete." and "We are currently processing your order. Your order number is xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. You will receive an additional e-mail when your order is complete that will provide further instructions to activate your iPhone."

The phone itself says "Waiting for activation - This May take some time". Am I supposed to wait longer, or is this the point where I call AT&T and give them the IMEI number?

In all the times I've done this over the past three years, the activation is always instant. The only time it wasn't was when I first brought home the original iPhone back in 2007.

I got the email 6 hours later saying the phone was activated  I restarted, and it works! The iPhone $20 + 200 text data plan is showing up in OLAM (and my Messaging 200 is still there). Didn't even have to call AT&T...

I'm going to put the SIM back into the iPhone 4 in a while and I'll provide an update...

Still works.

I did this once again about three weeks ago. Went from the 3GS back to the 2G. My billing was screwed up though when I got my latest bill. They billed me $93 instead of $67. Called CS and they knocked $30 off my bill.

The agent warned me that AT&T is soon dropping the 2G network and eventually data will not work on 2G phones. This means this hack will likely no longer work once this happens.

Do I need to restore my iPhone 2G

to complete the activation with new sim, is it necessary to restore iPhone 2G? I am borrowing from my friend and prefer not to restore as he has tons of stuff on apps for his kids. thanks
