Unsuccessful atempts to get $20 unlimited data plan for iphone 2g

Help...

Here's what I did:
1 - activated new voice-only line. Put SIM in 2G iPhone.
2 - successfully added UNL data $20 plan via iTunes
3 - Ordered "upgrade" for this line (non-apple smartphone) from Amazon wireless.
4 - Apparently Amazon decided they needed to switch me to $25 2GB plan as that's what now shows on my account online.

So what do I do?
1 - When new phone comes in, go get un-activated SIM from ATT store and re-activate UNL plan with iPhone 2G, then place in Smartphone and wait for ATT to auto-switch me to UNL Smartphone plan.
--or--
2 - Call CSR and try to get switched back to UNL data.

Thoughts?

Alright! Just activated my iPhone 2g, got unlimited data+200 sms.

Now, should I put the sim card into my atrix, call CSR, or to go an AT&T store?

Yay!

Disregard my last post. Called AT&T and got a CSR that was very helpful. She added the unlimited data at $30/month. I spent about 20 minutes on the phone.

How I did it:

Step 1) Buy an iPhone 2g and an unactivated SIM card. (Make sure the iPhone was factory reset via iTunes before inserting the unactivated SIM.)

Step 2) Insert the SIM card into the iPhone then plug the iPhone into your computer and do the whole iTunes activation process.

Step 3) Call AT&T and tell them you're upgrading to [Insert phone name here] and you have the phone already and that you want to keep your unlimited data.

Step 4) If all the other steps worked, enjoy your unlimited data! :D
 
so i have two choices (because I have an iphone 4)

a) i can put a full size SIM in the iphone 2g, then cut it down when i'm done activated the unlimited data plan

b) i can put a micro SIM in an adapter in the iphone 2g, then just put it back in my iphone 4 when i'm done

??
 
Can I still keep my $5 200 text plan if I use this loophole? I understand that the iPhone 2g plan switches you to an unlimited/200 text plan, but when you get switched to the $30 month plan, do you still keep your original 200 text plan, or do you have to choose one of the new plans?
 
ok guys need your help.... Im trying to activate my data plan on itunes.... but the prompt is not coming up on itunes.. i alrady have voice activated... etc added the number.. but the prompt is not coming up on itunes to choose the data plan.. Please help if you can. Thanks so much...

edit: i got it working, i just restored the 2g ipone and now i have unlimited data on "Edge" for 20 dollars. The next phase is switching the sim card to the 3gs...

nope. 200 text only bundles with unlimited edge
 
Question. When you move the sim card from the 2g to a 3GS or 4, what will the unlimited plan be? $20 or $30?
 
i need help with this.

got the iphone 2G. put the SIM *active* from my iphone 4 into it. Went through activation in iTunes. still waiting for 3 hours for confirmation email from at&t.

phone and internet works, but account still shows 2GB plan


do I need a new blank sim ? people were saying they just put their sim from iphone into a SIM adapter into the 2G and it worked.

It can take a few hours to a few days from the minute you place your sim back into the iPhone 4. Last time I did this, it took almost two days. You will get an SMS.
 
should I leave the SIM in the iphone 2g while i wait for the confirmation email ? or put it back in the iphone 4 ?

i got an SMS on the 2G welcoming me to AT&T

You need to put the sim back into the iPhone 4. Once you do that, you will eventually get an SMS stating that your data plan has been changed to the $30 unlimited plan. It can take a few hours to a few days.
 
is it alright even though i didn't get a confirmation email yet ?

I got an email from iTunes Store saying "at&t is now processing your activation. you will receive an email confirmation once your activation is complete."
 
Successfully got unlimted data..

Ok here is how i did it. I now have unlimited data on my 3gs...

1st buy a new sim card from ebay (about 4 dollars)
2nd buy a iphone 2gs from ebay (if you have no friends that have them)-make sure to buy from a company that offers a 30 day refund policy so you can return it when you are done.
(if you already have an account with at&t its basically the same procedure)
3rd register with iphone 2gs and sim card, give at&t the imei number, go on itunes and activate 20 dollar unlimited
4th wait yu get the confirmation that you have unlimited
5th switch the sim card to the desired device (may work on android? i Tried it with the iphone 3gs)
6th after a couple of hours it will upgrade your plan to the necessary plan for your iphone 3gs or iphone 4.

Still can't get iPhone to do anything with iTunes

1. Bought new SIM card (never activated, brand new)
2. Bought 2G 4GB iPhone on ebay
3. Put in new SIM card into 2G iPhone.
4. Downloaded iTunes (whatever the new one is)
5. iPhone has been restored before I bought it (I can't even use it, it says to plug it it for itunes)
6. When I plug it in, iTunes reconizes the iphone, but I get this screen:

Nothing happens... It just stays stuck like that... And the screen on the iPhone still has the image to plug it into iTunes: http://iphoners.org/images/2009/slide-for-emergency.jpg

Anything I can do? Anyone know how to activate it?

Heres what I've tried:
- On my other PC, I tried it with iTunes 8 and 9, and it still gives me that screen as above.
 
call at&t and give them the imei number.... for the iphone 2g then they will tell you you have to register, then try restoring the iphone 2g to 3.1.3 i think let me know what happenss

Exact same thing is happening to me. This is on a 2G that activated fine a few weeks ago. Tried calling AT&T. They were able to activate the sim but the phone would still not activate in itunes.

In the same boat. If the sim has been activated, does it work in your iPhone 4 or 3GS?

My AT&T support told me that the sim has been activated, but will NOT be active until activation is complete via iTunes.
 
Is there any way to get the $5 200 text plan back ? I had it on my and some how it was removed via online per the rep and i cant on get the $10 1000 text plan now.

***UPDATE***

Following the advise of Maschil, I called AT&T to give them the IMEI number and the SIM card number. The lady on the line was awesome (english speaking, no accent). Heres what I did:

1. Told AT&T rep that I loved my original iPhone and wanted to use it instead of my iPhone 4 (told her I was gonna sell it).

2. Rep deactivated my micro-sim in my iPhone 4 and activated my SIM card I bought for the original iPhone.

3. Rep told me she couldn't put on the unlimited data plan with 200 txt because it wouldn't let her, but she is going to file a report for a manager to over-ride it. So for now, she transferred over the same exact plan I had with my iPhone 4.

4. She told me it was good to go to plug into iTunes. After I hung up with her, I plugged it in.

5. UGH!! It still doesn't do anything!! Same screen. I tried plugging it into my other computers that had iTunes 8 and 9, but didn't work. The iPhone still showed this: http://iphoners.org/images/2009/slide-for-emergency.jpg

6. I decided to jailbreak it and unlock the phone myself.
- Downloaded jailbreak redsn0w-win_0.9.4
- Downloaded BL-39 and BL-46 files
- And IPWS iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore

7. On Redsn0w I choose to unlock only (I will jailbreak with safari using jailbreakme.com)

8. After it restored my phone and unlocked it, my SIM was automatically recognized and I just used it to call my friend! I didn't need to activate and choose a plan on iTunes at all.

9. I am now waiting for the unlimited data and 200 txt plan to be put on.

10. I ordered a SIM card cutter so that once the unlimited data gets added on, I will cut the SIM card and turn it into a Micro-sim to put in my iPhone 4 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...17145&creative=399369&creativeASIN=B003UEWF8I

Now I am just waiting for the manager to put on the unlimited data plan...
