I'm really hoping that someone can help me figure out why I'm getting stuck on the activation screen. I'm doing this for someone else (I already have unlimited myself) and I don't understand why it's stuck there and I can't seem to get past it. The only thing I can think of is that the person has an upgrade pending (iphone 4s on order) and maybe that's preventing it from going through? Still though, the error message in itunes doesn't say anything about that so I'm a little skeptical. If it's timing out trying to connect to the itunes store or whatever, what could be the problem?

Jw, what version of iTunes are you using? I believe PPFee's iTunes success is related to his Powerbook and older version of iTunes. I couldn't get iTunes to work and I'm using the newest update and Lion.
To get around the iTunes timeout, I signed out of my iTunes account and reopened iTunes. When the screen says "activation processing, may take up to 3 minutes", I sign into iTunes manually and I don't get the timeout message. After some waiting, I ended up with the "Activation requires additional time yada yada we'll send you an email".
I started out using 9.0 but then I changed to 9.0.2 after I saw PPFee's post. I'm on Windows too, although I do have a Mac as well. I prefer to use the Windows machine though since it's not my main computer and doesn't have anything jailbreak-related on it. I'll try to do what you said and sign out of my itunes account and then sign back in during the activation processing screen.
Can someone tell me for sure if it is still possible to get the unlimited data, because there are some sellers on craigslist that are selling the original iPhone and if i can for sure get it, then i will buy it. How much would be reasonable to pay for the original iPhone??
Just tried this and I'm still getting the same error related to the itunes timeout. I don't know what the heck the problem could be but I really need help with this because I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Hi antman, yes its still possible, i just did it successfully last night. I have been around quite a few forums and sites and seen steady daily reports of people's successes doing this since the 4s has launched. Also, theres a few youtube channels out there where you can see in the comments people are making a business out of this and charging to do it for people, and it appears they've got quite a few customers, but thats another tale.Yes it works, how much effort you have to go through to get there is unknown, for me at least, It took 10 minutes from start till My account settings showed the unlimited data plan options, although this is how its expected to go, it appears to be getting farther from the norm to have such quick and easy success. Now I just need to get past the connect to iTunes/emergency call screen. I don't want to jailbreak(know nothing about it) but if thats the only way someone tell me so i can start reading up now.

AppleJjuiced, I wander if there is someway to screenshare, Haha you could mail me the sim and then we could screenshare and do the process of yours through the powerbook. We'd have to refine the details, but if its feasible and you want to do it let me know I'd be glad to Try to help. Also, i know its cliche, but at this point when i call CS i would be saying please put me through to Cancellation department, at the very least you'll get the respect you deserve and can expect real answers and no lies about whats possible/not possible, even if they don't know how to do it, they won't lie and will therefore truly escalate the request to a manager for you.

I got sick of trying to jump thru 100 hoops to get this done, calling customer service 20 times only to waste hours on the phone with incompetent service reps. I Went to the Apple store and they couldnt figured it out either.
Paid this guy on ebay $20 and he added it to my account. Nice easy and guaranteed to work.
I just send him another payment so he can do the same with my brothers line in order to go from the 2GB plan to unlimited.
Its well worth the money IMO.

Thats awesome congrats man. I was just saying its amazing how many people are selling this as a service. I wish i had a side business like this when i worked at att. So the final step is to just go pick up a sim card at the store?
Yes. He called me and said my sim will soon deactivate.
Then a little while later I check my AT&T online account and I see the unlimited 2G data and 200texts for $20 appeared on my account.
He then called me again and said its ready and I went to AT&T and got a new microsim. The lady switched my account to the unlimited $30 and I was done in less than 5 minutes.

Did you give him last 4 digits of SSN or the account passcode? I will try if he can accomplish this using the account passcode. Can I just ask him to mail back the new sim and pop that into my 4S and letting the system change it to 3G plan instead of going through customer rep at the store?
Hey, did you check your account to be sure you have a text plan, or that they updated your texting plan for you? I've heard of many people with issues, especialy not being able to use mms because the original plan was provisioned for mms.

But I rather take a ride to the nearest AT&T store than beeing without a line for 3-4 days. up to you.
Yes, the line was part of a family plan with unlimited texting so the rep at the AT&T store took care of the rest.
Pretty simple process once the 2G unlimited data has been added.

This is only speculation but most of them seem to do it within 2 hours of payment, and its finished minutes later. I spoke to one guy that is averaging 15 a day he claims, and his message board supports those numbers, I guess I'm crazy because i wanted to do it myself, its been hell, but id rather have a project at hand than nothing. Also though, Im disabled, so I don't work all day so i need my projects to keep me sane when I'm not writhing in pain.
Yea that happened to a few people, do you have a mac by any chance? Also try logging out of the iTunes store and then clicking back on the iPhone tab.

so are you stuck with the connect to iTunes/ slide for emergency screen. I can't get the phone to move past there, the account has been updated fine though.I got an activation email guys. but not activating for some reason. I'm right now with a very helpfull at&t rep who is trying to activate it.
I was able to update the $20 ulimited data succesfully.
correct I'm on that emergency screen. the at&t rep is trying to call Apple now to find out what is going on. I keep getting that error message. How strange right.
