I could say the same about you since you brought up my post again with false statements. I had ceased talking to you about our disagreement. You seem to take joy out of continuing to mock what I went through. Disappointed I didn't run to you crying that big, bad iTunes wouldn't activate my iPhone itself and pay you to do it for me instead? Frustrated that I'm trying to help people out of the goodness of sharing information for no other reason than because I'm being helpful at no gain to myself?

You really don't understand why someone would take issue with you saying that they suggest "making lots of phone calls"? Really? You're hopeless, I guess. In the future, please do not make references to my post unless you are only referencing the element to try checking a setting in IE if attempting to activate from a Windows machine. I ask this politely. If you have any decency, even an ounce, you'll respect my request.

If you want to be helpful, then act like a decent human being to begin with. Help people by suggesting real fixes, don't make cracks at others.

Now I am mocking you? Wow... I have no reason to continue this, bud. Lucky for me, there are far more people here that would say I am helpful and a decent human being than those, like you, apparently, that think otherwise.

Go ahead and get the last word in. It's all yours...

To anyone that needs my assistance, you know where to find me. :)

I am back on unlimted plan because of lordofthereef. Very honest man. Activated in few minutes. I just have to go get a new sim. my AT&T account shows UNLIMITED DATA.

Thank you. Enjoy! :D

Please refrain from telling people lies due to your misreading of my post. It's unbecoming. Or maybe you just lack decent reading comprehension to understand my suggestion was to look for a simple setting error? Did you truly think I was suggesting that people spend time on the phone with AT&T (and Apple; you missed mentioning Apple)?

I resisted pointing out an exact quote of yours where you clearly stated that your way would work regardless of one's situation. Maybe I shouldn't have? Well, here it is:

Not trying to spout the "gospel truth," huh ;)? That reads to me and everyone else I had look at it as "this way works." You have zero proof it would work for everyone.

@leolady809:
You do not have "make a bunch of phone calls to AT&T" as I did. I also made calls to Apple as well. For the record ;). My post tells a very simple thing to check: a setting in IE if you are trying to activate from a Windows machine and are receiving the time out error in iTunes. It might not work for you, but it was a suggestion. The other information posted was the work I went through to get it as a bit of frustrated humor that it was such a simple fix.

It really depends on your individual situation. There's a lot of things that could be going wrong and not all methods described by others and myself may work for you. All you can really do is start trying them all. Doing the activation again, in my opinion, should be a last ditch effort if all else has failed

Thanks Kendar for the suggested help, I honestly think you went a little hard on LordoftheReef, I don't think he/or she was trying to mislead me at all. He/she has actually been really helpful and it's true..he/she helped me get back on unlimited Data. I tried to do it on my own, but just didn't have the patience to wait and wait.. after i got the time out message. I now know what I was doing wrong. Trust me..there's no way i was going to go thu all that back and forth you went thru... Just be Happy :) All that matters is that we got our UNLIMITED DATA back right??
@Thanks again "LoroftheReef!! I can definitely vouch for you...
A lil shot out to Unlimitesway too!.. I'm happy!

While I respect your opinion, I feel you are misinformed or, more likely, feel obligated to state what you did because he helped you after you paid him. All I did was point out that he was incorrectly saying that I told people to "make lots of calls." Not exactly an upstanding citizen and quite rude to purposefully misread my post. He's nice to the people willing to pay him, though ;). At least unlimitedsway shows respect to others and is generally nice to all whether they purchase or not.

I had no real concern you'd follow the method I had. I'd like to think you're intelligent enough to have actually read the post rather than have taken a total stranger at his word. However, I was annoyed that after having agreed to cease discussion, he rudely references my post and in an incorrect manner. It wasn't an attempt to mislead you, but a veiled jab at me. If you read through past posts in this thread, you'll see that I am not the only one he has had a conflict with. And I admit: I like pointing out when people do hypocritical things like claiming one's experience trumps another after already having it out with others over differing experiences. It is a flaw, but a fun one ;)

Note that I am glad you were finally able to resolve things. I just wish you had had the satisfaction of getting to do it yourself :). It's a great feeling, much cheaper, and less invasive into information you should never give out. But I am sincerely glad you're happy and all set.

I would also point out that the selling in this thread is against forum rules. Selling is only permitted in the Marketplace. I've been mostly attempting to ignore it since I know some people are just too impatient and some are willing to take advantage of that (nothing wrong with that), but it is getting out of hand. Most of the last several posts have been about selling yet another new service that I will withhold my opinion on. I would like to see this thread go back to what it should be: helping people troubleshoot activation problems, not selling activation or FAN discounts.

And, to get this back on topic and not discussing the sale of items and services outside of the proper location:

For those that are doing this on their own and are upgrade eligible as I was doing this: my experience was it was much easier to do the trick and then upgrade. There were no hiccups. There was no scoffing. There was just grandfathering me in. However, I'll caution this with the account is very old (not one AT&T wants to lose), it was off contract and able to be ended without any ETF, and I was forced to wait and actually use the iPhone so there was a bit of history on it due to this.

Obviously with all things YMMV, but I had no trouble and had I gone through the website directly, it was right there to add myself. I did do a dummy cart so I could print out that I had the option for unlimited (oh, how tempting that Enterprise unlimited with 5GB of tethering was!), printed out the data plan page where it mentions the grandfathering, and printed out press releases about grandfathering. I didn't need them, but I was quite prepared. Going through online would have been, in my opinion, much easier than any option. Only reason I didn't was that I was able to get a significantly better deal elsewhere.

I'm honestly still a bit sad about passing up the Enterprise unlimited with 5GB tethering, but I couldn't justify $60 for a service I don't need. The peace of my mind unlimited brings is worth the $5, but I don't travel enough to need the tethering for an extra $30 over regular unlimited.

Need help!

Ok, I've been trying to get the $30 unlimited iphone plan on my account! Here's the issue I can't activate through itunes because my iphone 2g is broken, and won't restore for the life of me. So, I called AT&T gave them imei number and they added the iPhone 2G to my account, but said they can't manually add the data plan, and that I must go through iTunes. Every single representative, including the supervisors, keep telling me either they don't offer the plan, they can't add it on manually, or the only way to add it is through iTunes, I don't know what to do. So far all I have is the iphone 2g on one of my lines without a data plan..

I always make note that original unlimited iphone data plan is the only plan that can be used for the original iphone because its a EDGE iphone, and some keeping saying that the other data packages 200mb, 2g, work with the phone.

They are correct. It does need to go through iTunes for the activation to work. What, specifically, about your phone is broken? Have you tried putting in DFU to restore? Does it not read the sim card? IME as long as it syncs to iTunes and reads sim cards, and doesn't have a banned IMEI (which it obviously doesn't since they added it to your account without fuss) you should be golden.

FWIW the "not being able to add the plan outside of iTunes" has been there since they getgo. I am fairly certain they never allowed addition of this plan outside of iTunes activation. You may be able to eventually talk to the right person who is willing or able to get this done for you completely over the phone, however I am unaware of this being a possibility.

Ok, since they can't add it...I say my iphone 2g is broken because when I try to restore it to 3.1.3 (without the iphone sim card in there), I can put it in DFU mode but I get error codes 1600-1604 I tried us ireb and a variety of itunes. I should note, when I unplug my iphone 2g from the pc, or even the charger it automatically shuts off, strangely enough when I connect it it turns on, that's why I say it is broken...it doesn't seem to be catching a charge but when connect to a power outlet it does turn on...

Also, I still get error 1600-1601 after being in dfu and using ireb on itunes...

Do I need the sim card inserted in order to restore it, I don't believe I do...

Ok, so give me a little more info. You plug the phone in for the first time. What happens (on the phone)? Apple screen? Boots into iOS?

If it boots into iOS, what version does it actually have installed currently? (setting>general>about)

And no, you don't need the sim inserted in order to restore.

----------

Also, this is a STOCK ipsw that you are attempting to install, yes?

Ok, when I plug the iphone in for the first time, it automatically turns on and shows the apple logo then shows connect to itunes screen. iTunes then says "iTunes has detected and iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTunes." Then I have the option of clicking ok, then restore where it would then download the 3.1.3 firmware and get ready to install...it doesn't boot into iOS...

I'm trying to install the stock ipsw, but mainly install whatever I can to get this activation going, if the iphone isn't broken.
Note: if i unplug the iphone from the PC the iphone will shutoff (that's why I assume it's broken)

I don't THINK it's broken. It just sounds like a completely dead battery. I have one like that, however I have never had to run a restore on it, so it may not want to do a restore without a functional battery (I don't THINK that's the case, but I have very little experience with dead batteries).

So, you downloaded the firmware through iTunes then? Or....?

Also, do you have access to another computer (not the one you are doing all this on now)? Sometimes iTunes issues are resolved as simply as different computer.

Well I downloaded the firmware through itune then it extracted whatever it needed to extracted and then I got this error message just now, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (23)."

I don't have access to another computer, but I could always create another fresh account on my computer and take it from there...

I am only going with what I read, but people's recommendation are to restore on a computer that has never seen the iPhone/iPod before. This is why I was recommending a separate computer. I suppose if your only option is to make a new account, give it a shot. You have nothing to lose (except perhaps some time :p). If that doesn't work, I am sure you know SOMEONE who has a computer you could use at some point today though.

Reading furhter, and since you said you have used iReb, it sounds like you put it into "pwned" DFU mode. Have you tried restoring using a custom IPSW file? Or just using software to kick it out of DFW?

I feel like crying!!

No friends? :p (just kidding, please nobody FREAK OUT!)

I am sure we can get this working. Just relax. :)

While plugged into your PC, what happens when you hold down power and home?

Just a quick update, friends. I;ve been on the phone quite a bit today, and it seems ATT is having issues activating the unlimited data. It seems to time out for them (and yes, I am referring to the actual reps, not just iTunes). One rep told me it was working fine for him last night, but since this morning it has been a no go. Not sure what to think of this just yet. Perhaps they have closed the hole or perhaps there is just a glitch in the system currently.

Take this for what it's worth but I just spoke with an iphone activation specialist and she said that a bulletin was sent out today letting everyone know that this issue has been going on all day and that it has been escalated for further investigation. She told me that it should be resolved within 24 hours so it doesn't sound like they've closed the loophole or anything like that. Sounds like nothing more than a system glitch but let's keep our fingers crossed.

Has anyone successfully a) activated an unlimited + Enterprise + 5GB tether plan and b) transferred it to a 4S? I would guess it would go something as follows: Activate unlimited data on 2G iPhone. Put SIM into 3G Blackberry Bold - Get converted to $30/unlimited automatically. Add phone to my existing FAN account and add Enterprise Tethering. Cut SIM/transfer account to Micro-SIM and put into iPhone 4S. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

I have a 4S with an unlimited plan (no tethering), but also have an iPhone 2G, and a BlackBerry Bold that is compatible with enterprise tethering. My main contract is running out in a few months, so adding a second account to get tethering (even capped) while retaining unlimited phone data would be a plus.
