I talked to a person that i will keep anonymous, but am being told that it should be fixed sometime next week....now this isnt a for sure thing, this is just what im being told. Will know more hopefully next week. I will keep everyone posted. Just found out this info a little while ago.
 
Well my friends, I am almost certain the loophole has been closed. I tested all ten of my phones with blank sims and ALL of them were activated immediately after plugging into iTunes. THis leads me to believe that this is no longer an isolated incident.

Talking to ATT reps, however, has still gotten me nowhere. They all tell me "give it another 24 hours". At this point, I think it's just a go to phrase synonymous with "we don't know any more than you do". I will still do everything I can to try and find out definitively what's up, but things certainly don't look good.

And to all those that's still interest, I'm sure lordofthereef and unlimitedsway will keep us updated as time goes on. I personally dealt with lordofthereef and have nothing but good things to say, so fingers crossed for the next few days.

For the record, still hearing the same things (ie not a whole lot) when calling in. Phones still go directly to activation when plugging into iTunes. Wish I had a TMO sim on me. Perhaps I can grab one from a friend. Curious to see if it pushes the activation with any sim?

I want to thank lordofthereef for helping me so far with adding a FAN discount on my account. He's answered all my questions immediately so far.

Lordofthereefs, I think ATT's servers are still acting up because the FAN discount hasn't showed up. Should I call customer service and ask them about it? What do you think?

Bro, I have a little over a week since lordofthereef setup fan for me and the info still hasn't showed up when I log online.
 
Sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks guys or even a full billing cycle to complete and show up on your account.

Yeah, they say the discount kicks in after 2 billing cycles (2 months), as for the FAN info showing up.. I dunno how long that takes to show up online, could be after a few cycles.

Applejuiced, how long did it take for yours to appear on your OLAM?

Man, just my luck. My fried had my old iPhone 2g. He finally shipped it to me (after bothering him for this for 2 months), and guess when I received it. The 13th! Started reading up on how to do this and nogo. Granted, all i tried was taking my fiance's sim card out of her iphone 3g and putting it in the 2g. automatically activated.

guess we will just have to wait patiently to see if it gets fixed!
 
i just got an iphone 2g.... sigh i went to the att store apparently they arent giving out sim cards unactivated. also, i tried to do this with a currently activated sim card and i got the same result as everyone else. decided to call att about the situation but they somehow unactivated my current sim card and i did not ask them to activate my 2g so i had to get a new one and the person of course activates it..... i really hope this gets fixed and that i can do it with an activated microsim

When I did mine over 3-4 years ago it showed up on my account online right away. And the discount started the next billing cycle.
But not sure how this particular one works or behaves. It may be different.
 
i just recently got a fan account and it took 2 billing cycles for it to kick in not sure why though

To those having issues with the FAN discount my friend processed, I had at least one person tell me that the discount isn't showing but he called ATT and they said they could see it. Also, when I had a fan on my account (we don't have it anymore since my fiances work pays for our lines) it took one full billing cycle for it to show up. This was the 21% Best Buy discount. That said, I know the majority of discounts that were processed through me have been working fine. Unfortunately, I cannot comment furhter, since that is all I know.

If you have called ATT and even they say that the discount is not present, please text me the following info:

Full Name
Phone number
Date of processing (this would have been the day we discussed adding the discount ia text)

I will see what I can do as far as having my friend check on that. If he can't do anything we will get you taken care of either way.

Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to cease fan discounts for any new people. I thought I could help out and be the middle man, but it just isn't working. I neither have access to the accounts getting the FAN discounts added, nor am I the one doing the discounts, so I just end up being the messenger. I didn't expect this to be this much of a hassle, but it's clearly not working, and I hate to tarnish my reputation as a result of failed promises.

As I said, to those who we got started on the process, we will get you taken care of. For everyone else, I am sorry but I am no longer going to offer help in that field. I will see if my friend has interest in posting here, though he didn't want people going directly through him in the first place.

My guess is they might have closed the loophole and changed it. Making the 2G behave just like any other iphone that just activates the phone with any official sim card inside.
Without going thru adding the iphone data and text plan, social, billing zip etc...
But that's just my guess, looks like party is over.

For the record, this never worked with an already activated sim card. You always needed a brand new, never used, never before activated sim card. Most people have good luck just asking for a new sim card if they tell the rep what they want (ie tell them you need a new sim to activate through iTunes with your iPhone). Short of that, you can always buy an unactivated sim. Standard sims on ebay are under $2 and micro sims are under $5, as of this writing, of course.

Not that unlimited even matters anymore. You either pay more to use 2GB+ or you get throttled to 2G speeds for using 2GB+ on unlimited.
 
Well its been a while and maybe they noticed many people doing it and decided to put an end to it.
Something like that wouldnt last forever and was bound to happen.

yeah i guess..... tried calling an att rep to ask if the procedure was changing for iphone 2g activation and they said it was staying as is (take that for what you will) anyone else can confirm this?

Well, I know my line is at 4 gigs for the month, with a week left on the billing cycle, and I haven't been throttled yet. All in all, I don't think the majority of users are getting throttled at all. For me, keeping the unlimited data plan is worth it, at least for the time being.

Yep, lordofthereef started like on the 7th and nothing was showing until this morning when my new cycle began. It's easy to get inpatient but it just takes time.
