Untethered 4.2.1 JB Out? redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 6

Yes it will untether on 4.2.1 but you will need your 4.2Beta3 blobs in order for it to work.

Are you sure you're ticking the Untether option at the beginning? Or maybe you're using WiFi Sync? Do you have another Mac to try it on? Sorry... just throwing out ideas.
It says you'll need access to 4.2b3 and I am not a legit developer. How are so many people getting access to 4.2b3 I'm pretty sure not all of them are developers.
It will jb the final release public 4.2.1? I just want to make sure I don't need a beta os for the untethered jb. I have 4.2b3 blobs saved in Cydia.
They're doing things they should not be doing. Just wait for iOS 4.3 and comex if you have to ask the question you just asked.

What are the steps if I am not jailbroken currently? Most guides are assuming you are already jailbroken...thanks in advance.
First just cydia checkbox and then run again and only jailbreak Monte checkbox?
Also is b6 stable? Seems like they have fixed all issues. I'm on a mac.

Yes, it will JB untethered the latest 4.2.1 and you wont need to install the beta3 firmware. But you will need to find the beta ipsw to point redsnow to.
Do a quick search on Google for 4.2 beta 3 firmware and you will find tons of download links for it.
Developers have 100 UDID spots on their account (for testing purposes) that authorize people's phones to use the beta software and ad-hoc apps. I had a friend hook me up.
I have jailbroken using this method, upgraded clean from 4.1 to 4.2.1 saved all my shsh blobs using TU, used the latest redsn0w and restored my backup, now I am untethered on iphone 4, haven't noticed any issues even on the beta apart from bite sms is currently not supported and crashes. everything else seems ok, miwi, my3g, lockinfo, sbsettings etc
Hasn't worked with mine (iPhone 4).
Restored to a fresh 4.2.1 last night and installed iBooks (nothing else). Was able to open and browse 2 purchased books. Then I immediately jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.7b6. Tried iBooks again and... no dice. The open/close method doesn't worked with this version of redsn0w like it did previously.

No matter how i try to untether whenver it gets to the limera1n part the bar fills up 95% and the ipad turns on always

Nope just checked ibooks doesnt work, re downloaded my purchased books, went to open and bang says there is a problem with the configuration of my iphone, bit of a sod but no biggy as they work still on my ipad
Please advise....

I've seen a lot of guides say you have to be jailbroken first as well, but I didn't need to be when I JB'd my iPad. I just ran redsn0w and selected to install Cydia and Jailbreak Monte at the same time.
Thanks...I tried that and have my 4.2b3 blobs saved, but phone restarted while redsnow said it was doing something with limerain and phone booted to home screen...no cydia app and I have no idea if I'm jailbroken now...

Once the tethered JB was working, I used the mac version of b7 to do the Jailbreak Monte. It requires that you have copies of both 4.2.1 and 4.2 beta. redsn0w will first ask you to point it to the 4.2.1 ipsw and then to the 4.2 beta ipsw. However, you do end up with 4.2.1 on the phone.

I want to know if anyone has done this with an iPhone 4 and kept the 1.59.00 baseband.
There is a thread a little while back that if you "update" your phone from 4.1 on Baseband 1.59.00 to 4.2.1, you get an error in iTunes but if you just restart your phone, you'll be on 4.2.1 with 1.59.00 baseband. This only works with the iPhone 4 AND you have to update not restore.

Yes, I have the 1.59.00 baseband and I'm running 4.2.1 untethered right now.
I just used firmware umbrella + saurik's method and it worked perfectly.
I believe there's a thread on this somewhere in this forum. Helped a great deal. Good luck.
What's saurik's method? Are you a developer because you need to have access to 4.2b3.
