Sorry if this is a n00bish question, but I'm new to iPhone 4 JB (previously had a 3G that was left for dead a while ago so I never kept up with recent JB news), but the ultrasn0w unlock being worked on and that will be pushed out in the future is only for 1.59 and below preserved basebands? That means iPhone 4's with updated basebands are left out to dry or am I getting it all wrong? I got my iPhone 4 two weeks ago loaded with iOS 4.2.1 and 3.10.01 baseband.
I'm on AT&T in the states so I'm ok, but I'm traveling to Europe in August and would love to use the iPhone instead of my unlocked LG flip...

i'm jailbroken on 4.2.1 right now, i'm guessing there's no way for me to update to 4.3.1 jailbroken and keep my custom icons/jailbreak apps?
SSH into your phone and backup your Themes directory (located in /Library/Themes) to your computer. That'll save all your themes and custom icons.
As far as backing up jailbroken apps, you can purchase pkgbackup from Cydia that will allow this.

Once this hits, am I okay to proceed to 4.3.1 even though I dont have ANY SHSH blobs saved? I am currently on 4.0 and unlocked and the guy I bought it from didnt save the blobs at the time. From what I understand, I am now okay to proceed once this jailbreak hits even with NO blobs because 4.3.1 is the most current FW that they are signing.
Is this correct?

SHSH blobs only allow you to go back to an older firmware that Apple is no longer signing. They don't do anything in letting you upgrade. You can upgrade to 4.3.1 without needing an SHSH. If for some reason however you don't like 4.3.1, you won't be able to go back to whatever firmware version you are currently on. Hope this helps.

I ask because I have found a guide at iClarified that shows how tp upgrade to 4.3.1 WITHOUT updating the baseband (which is obviously important to me since I am an unlocker) and it says to make sure to save the blobs.
You will update your baseband and therefore lose your unlock should you go to 4.3.1. You need to use TinyUmbrella to update without changing your 1.59.00 baseband. Or if you have a Mac you can wait and create a custom ipsw that doesn't change your baseband when PT is updated.

I know I cant just update through iTunes, thank you. I found this guide and it seems to be just what I need to follow. Again, it talks about the blobs like it is a mandatory step and I wanted to make sure that I was okay in continuing with the guide since I have NO blobs saved (unfortunately the previous owner didnt save them). Once I follow the guide and get to 4.3.1 I will DEFINATELY save the blobs for future reference.
