Sounds like you have a defective iPhone or defective eyes. Might want to see someone about that.
LEDs tend to be either on or off and do not easily lend themselves to dimming. The way that many displays control brightness is to rapidly cycle the LEDs on and off very quickly to give the appearance of a dimmer LED. This cycling is called “PWM” and it can be perceived by some people in a way that is disturbing and/or tiring to their eyes. Almost all OLED or LED backed LCDs do this to some extent. Perhaps some have a cycle that is too fast to be irritating but I don’t think that is common.

It’s already been too confusing. I am a longtime Apple user and I couldn’t begin to tell you an iPad name and corresponding size. Aren’t there 5 or 6 models now, some only an inch larger than the other? It’s very stupid and too much choice is probably crippling iPad sales overall.
There are 5 models but most are clearly distinguished by size of screen and overall performance as well as price. Only the 11” Air and the 11” IPad Pro are so similar. That does not cripple sales. Having the right size for people let’s them get something that fits their needs which do not all fall into the same size easily.

Mini-LED with blooming would be a downgrade. Don't cheap out and give us proper OLED.

Well if you're including me in your rant, I specifically said "no reason for ME to upgrade" in my post earlier in this thread.
huh?

1. that wasn’t a “rant”.

2. the post I quoted was quoting Kylo83 which said there’s no reason to upgrade.

totally understand if there’s no reason for *you* to upgrade. I’m just referring to those who think that *no one* needs to upgrade whenever Apple releases something.

I will be upgrading from a 2017 iPad Pro. I have to decide between the 12.9 and the 11 inch. The mini LED just might push me to the larger of the two. Apple’s strategy appears that it may be working.

Had the 2021 12.9 w mini-LED, tried 2 but ghosting/blooming and backlighting zone inconsistency was so bad I returned for a 2021 11. Normal usage it was fine but not in darker environments.

I’d like to see a 12” pro. Strikes the right balance between size and usability. The 12.9 was just a tad too unwieldy for 1 handed usage and I don’t have T-Rex paws.

I usually upgrade every iPad generation but this time it’s going to be a hard pass. If the M2 was manuf with 3nm for better battery life or OLED, I’d do it.

Even if it has I6E support or MagSafe/peer device charging (a way late to the game me too feature), not worth it for me.

Watch Apple throw us something we never thought about just like Dynamic Island on the IPhone and have everyone buying a new iPad Pro.

Is it just me or is Apple in another innovation slump? All they've been doing is incremental updates across the board. Maybe just supply chain issues, but it still sucks.

I can't say they've released anything "game changing" since Apple Silicon. Everything else seems pretty unimpressive.

Chrome would be perfect on Android if Google allowed extensions, bottom navigation, and no background behind the home bar. C'mon, Google. Firefox is too buggy for me to use and I don't like other alternatives.

Honesty not missing anything, the local dimming zones on my 12.9 are horrendous for dark video content

I never understood the 9.7" iPad Pro when it was introduced in the wake of the OG 12.9" iPad Pro.

I still do not understand the 11" iPad Pro.

An iPad lineup that was:

iPad (10") - low spec
iPad Air (11") - mid spec
iPad Pro (12.9") - top spec

would make so much sense. Yes the Mini isn't there either.

FWIW the 12.9" M1 Pro is my portable daily driver and I wouldn't want anything else. iPad to go + iMac to stay = perfect for my use.
That’s probably the lineup Apple is working towards but they just can’t get there— why? Because some Pros need the top of the line in a smaller package that’s more portable.

I’d love to see the sales figures on the 11 vs. 12” iPPs. My guess is they sell a TON of 11s. Not as much profit margin, but they probably move.

FWIW, I’ve ALWAYS found the 12” model too big for constant travel, especially with the Magic Keyboard. 11” w/keyboard is perfect for airplane use.
