It’s suppose to be a pro machine right ?

Don’t blame the punters. Blame apple who still views that a pro machine like the new iMac Pro and MacBook Pro require a headphone jack, for obvious reasons.

I’m referring to these people actually expecting a product that is capable of a pro workflow . Removal of the headphone jack would indicate to me that the IPad Pro is just another iPad and the “pro” is an excuse to just charge more.

So after a long rant , a pro machine, still needs a headphone jack.
Where is it written you headphones won't work on that pro machine?

Has anyone on this entire spinning rock ever looked at an iPad Pro and wen't "Aww gee if only it were thinner?"
FFS honestly Apple needs to understand that thin =/= good. Its thin enough. I feel like if it gets any thinner its own weight will be able to bend it.

IMO, removing the headphone jack on a "pro" device, kinda stupid. Its an iPad, its not exactly cramped is it? The phone I can kind of get due to its size, but a 10 or 12 inch tablet? If they removed the jack to make room for a bigger battery sure why not, but just to make an already thin device slightly thinner? Just absolute stupid form over function there.

I'll be interested to see if theres a bendgate for the new iPad Pro.

OK, so Apple when are you going to introduce these things? We are almost halfway through October!
traditionally an Oct event happens about the 24th so i'd imagine early next week they send out an invite if they are going to at all this month.

it wouldn't be the 1st time they only gave about a weeks notice and now with the steve jobs theater they don't need to telegraph when as early as they own the venue so scheduling conflicts don't exist which makes it even more likely.

Without a headphone jack the likely good and expensive headphones people already have wont work unless they use a dongle. Less streamlined, more evidence that Apple just uses the word "pro" to charge more.

Really? You don’t have or can’t buy usbC headphones?

You mean people don't have a new niche type of headphones and don't want to replace perfectly working headphones they already have to accommodate Apple.

Also, USB C headphones aren't going to work unless Apple puts a type C port on the iPad Pro. If they stubbornly cling to their stupid proprietary connector then its another dongle. Hardly "pro".

this statement would apply to every apple product in the last 5 years.
I wholheartedly agree and eventually this anti-customer arogance they have will bite them.

honestly i want it fatter with more battery, headphone jack is important, because its a pro let it be a combo 3.5mm jack/spidf like old macs were and it would be beneficial to do multiple lightning or in this case usb-c cause why not have 2

that said i know it wont happen

There remain very good reasons why someone may prefer to use wired headphones.

There are very good reasons—the sad state of most all Macintosh, among other things—why Tim Cook should no longer be the CEO of Apple.

I can think of a trillion reasons he should remain.

People often pit the iPad Pro against the MS Surface, but if they axe the headphone jack and everything else it will just push the iPad Pro firmly into the "not a computer" territory and the Surface will be left standing as the tablet PC that can actually get stuff done.

can you honestly say apple's trajectory would have changed had it been someone other than cook?

I dont think so, it's not like it was 90's apple and cook turned it around, he so far just hasn't plowed it into the ground but maintained its current course
he hasnt benefited apple in any meaningful way as CEO at least that can be measured

I would say Apple would be worth less if Steve himself was alive and running Apple. You have one theory and that's fine Apple has a very large bank account that can speak for itself. To say Tim Cook has nothing to do with Apple's astronomical success is ludicrous.

No doubt. Idiotic. I make my living as a video professional, and daily plug my Sony MDR V6 headphones into my iPad checking levels. Why those particular headphones? They are largely the industry standard, and a couple Audio Technicas and Sennheisers many pros use. While I use AirPods CONSTANTLY, they are not what I use for WORK, Apple.

Ok, first off, I don’t pretend to be much of an audio guy. I have headphones that work for me and that’s about it. But you mentioned the industry standard headphones, so I did a quick google search. The headphones you listed can be bought on zulily for $69. On eBay for $35. I find it crazy that an industry leader for headphones can be that cheap and we are all paying $150 or more for a pair. We are all doing it wrong. Zulily here I come!

I think that removing headphone jack on pro model would be a mistake. One of the things that makes iPad usable for real work (which is what the Pro models are being marketed for) is ability to produce music, and for this it is great to have headphone jack (bluetooth is not an option for this, because it introduce latency, reduce audio quality and it's not that stable). If you only use iPad for browsing the web and playing games, then bluetooth is ok, but for those tasks there is no need to buy Pro instead od the basic iPad for less than half the price...

Pro users are not price sensitive,so you buy what you need

I think I’m going to buy the Max iPad if they can make it thinner, lighter, and smaller. I’ve always wanted one.

I have mine in a case to protect it, so this thinning nonsense is literally useless to me.

So if it was three inches thick it wouldn't matter because you use a case? If the device is thinner with a case it should be over all thinner as well. The jack is being yanked so Apple can have a new source of Airpod sales. It has nothing to do with space inside the Ipad it is simply about making money. Some people won't buy because of the lack of a headphone jack. They will instead stick it to Apple and buy an older model that has already paid it's R&D and gives Apple huge margins.

They aren't even going to bundle the dongle anymore that should tell you something. They expect you to use a wireless solution.

These new iPads look like just fantastic devices. I just don’t know exactly where they would fit in my life when I already have a large iPhone and a Surface Pro. But hey, I’m trying to find a reason to buy one.

Thinner? No. But even lighter devices would be nice, which is why I don’t like the move to glass for iPhones. Carrying an iPad you don’t even notice is there adds more value than a few mm less in thickness.

Good. No one uses headphones on an ipad anyway. If you want to use headphones u should just buy the $160 EarPods.

I believe you mean the *AirPods*, the EarPods are the wired accessory for the 3.5 Jack. That would be kind of contradictory in your post.
