Bad joke time:
What if they made a Jonny Ive collector's edition?
Would it be the iPhone XS-Ive?

In all honesty, I think of the name as iPhone, and the rest as the 'extra' identifiers, that are akin to the extra badges found on the back of cars, like 'limited' or 'all wheel drive, etc - the stuff that just clutters up the looks of the car. Thankfully Apple at least doesn't do that to their products.

Nothing wrong with Xs plus IMO. I mean it's not great, but consumers already recognize the nomenclature and it doesn't have to be explained, why tank a system that's working? So this year it would be Xs, Xs plus and the lower range iPhone would could be iPhone 9. Although that would create problems for next year I suppose as they couldn't name it the iPhone 10. The more I think about it, the more it's possible maybe they are using both plus and max. So the low range iPhone would be plus to signify the larger screen, and the larger OLED iPhone would be max to signify the largest screen.

Or maybe they give it some random name like iPhone SE and call it a day, who knows.

"iPhone Xs Plus" is a mouthful and difficult to say, but "iPhone Xs Max" is easier to pronounce.
Allegedly easier to pronounce (despite same number of syllables); also sounds really stupid.

One rumor I hope is false, honestly.

Nice. A trillion dollar company cannot even manage to properly name their flagship product. WTF?
[doublepost=1536200898][/doublepost]Volvo cars: T4 is a 4 or 6 cylinder car, depending. T6 is 4cylinder, T5 is 6 cylinder. Or close to this. It caused me not to buy a Volvo. Nice going Apple. Get your act together and name this phone. You can do it!

Sounds like it could be a Xiaomi product. Actually I've just browsed their website and they have a Xiaomi Mi Max phone. Horrendous! Is it that hard to keep it simple and just call it the iPhone?! I think people are smart enough to differentiate between models by the screen size and year as with iPads, MBPs, etc.

just call them all "iPhone" and if further specificity is needed, just use the screen size. Like the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac, etc.
I think the only problem with your suggestion as well as with the suggestion of @groove-agent earlier:
(https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...d-iphone-xs-max.2135540/page-11#post-26419165) is that they seems to like to differentiate the last yrs phone from the recent as they still want to sell phone’s in different price classes, and keep last yrs for cheaper price.
They don’t do that with the Mac’s or iPad’s.
Maybe tag them just simply with year released instead, like iPhone 2018 and their inches in finer descriptions.

But I wouldn’t mind if they brought back the cat-names from OSX to the phones though.
How cool to buy a phone like iPhone Panther Mini.

Gotta have some fun too :D
