I love the rounded corners of the iPhone X so this is awesome news. Since the 6.1" LCD iPhone will have rounded corners, I hope the 9.7" iPad gets rounded corners soon.

Why do we need rounded corners on a tablet?

...because if your content/app layout is basically rectangular, a screen with rounded corners forces you to leave an empty margin all around it, so that you can pick up your new tablet with edge-to-edge display without accidentally pressing things.

You know, a bit like bezels, only more expensive.

I mean, every phone manufacturer seems to be falling over themselves to copy Apple's "Whups, Jony wants an edgeless display but we didn't invent thru-display cameras in time" iPhone notch, so we're not talking form-follows-function any more.

Yea same here, I wasn’t going to upgrade this year since I brought last years iPad Pro BUT if there is a redesign with Face ID, no home button and thinner bezels along with both the 12.9” and 11” being smaller I will definitely upgrade.

That’s before we even know what speed updates and internals there are :D I really think this iPad is going to be impressive.

Yea for sure. I upgrade year as my iPad is my main computer and the sell/upgrade costs are very minimal. I end up spending about $200 a year.

I undoubtedly believe this will be similar to what we will experience with rounded corners on the future iPad, but more importantly for me, I look forward to having all display with reduced bezels and the home button deletion. Face ID is the future.

Please no. Round corners don't make sense on a device like that. In fact, for screens its not good anyway.
Lets say you are showing a picture to someone and it fills the screen - picture frames are squared, televisions are squared etc. Its all for a reason and the reason is for unobtrusive viewing experience.
Lets hope this example is just for certain actions and not full display experience.

Also that design from the CAD that leaked just looks really good :D with the SE style edges and even the speaker grills. I really hope that CAD is real.

Now that the next iPad Pro are kind of late I’m hoping Apple will skip A11X and go straight to A12X. For an A11X to make sense Apple "must" launch new iPad Pros before the next iPhone with A12 – If they can make enough A12s...

I use mine in conjunction with my Mac, I still love to use MacOS as well as iOS but I do use Affinity Photo and Pixelmator on my iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil it’s great, drawing and those colouring in apps are so relaxing as well :)

I think judging by the leaks it’s going to be a big update this year! Looks like I will be upgrading my iPad as well as a new Mac and Apple Watch, it’s going to be an expensive end to the year :D

Still a question as to whether Face ID will work in landscape orientation. If it doesn’t no new iPad for me.
I’m not sure if the hardware can do that yet. The dot projector is likely constraining the positioning of the device relative to the user’s face. I think it will be awhile before FaceID doesn’t care about orientation (like TouchID).

But unlike the iPhone, Apple could add a second TrueDepth sensor array on the iPad Pro models to handle FaceID in landscape orientation.

More expensive of course, but the user experience would be much better. I think Apple would rather raise the price a bit rather than sacrifice user experience to the degree that portrait-only unlocking would require. Another alternative would be FaceID only in landscape, if two sensor arrays are just too costly.

That split screen view looks like straight up poo. There's no way Apple would release that cockeyed view.

How is that different than what we have now? I’m guessing not many people use split view in portrait orientation.

Both of you are right. It is what we have now... and it does look like utter poo. Fugliest design choice ever. Who would ever need a long skinny app like that? It would have been far better to allow a portrait-oriented iPad to display two landscape oriented apps. So many more useful scenarios that way, but no... instead we are left with: if you need multi-tasking you hold the iPad in landscape orientation.

Grrrr... I’m angry now
[doublepost=1533321085][/doublepost]Also, rounded corners are fine with me on iPad. Looks stupid on iPhone but that’s just another reason to stick with my SE.

I know, I love these marketing terms. WTF does "Organic" mean? If you are going to describe something use a word with meaning not Organic, Natural, Clean…I mean come on.

or·gan·ic
adjective
adjective: organic
3. denoting a relation between elements of something such that they fit together harmoniously as necessary parts of a whole.
  1. "the organic unity of the integral work of art"
synonyms: structured, organized, coherent, integrated, coordinated, ordered, harmonious
"a society is an organic whole"
    • characterized by continuous or natural development.
"companies expand as much by acquisition as by organic growth"

It's not a perfect analogy, I know... hence the "quotation" marks. Basically I mean something like the hardware fades away into the user experience better than on the older model iPhones. I think that it's subtle and complex, though (as with all UX issues), because it's not obvious to me that a desktop/laptop with rounded edges on the screen would create the same effect.

About time, finally! The only iPad design I like is the original from 2010. If this new one is X-based it'll be gorgeous.

I cant see them releasing an iPad pro with Face ID that only works in ONE orientation. Primary use for so many is in landscape especially on the giant pro. My guess is they took the last year to figure it out.
