What on earth would be the purpose of this? It's not a compelling design element, it doesn't reflect how people actually see and it in no way enhances the user experience. Why not just make the screen oval because, you know, YOLO?

I never use split view in portrait but in landscape I usually have an app like twitter as a permanent second app. Both of you are right. It is what we have now... and it does look like utter poo. Fugliest design choice ever. Who would ever need a long skinny app like that? It would have been far better to allow a portrait-oriented iPad to display two landscape oriented apps. So many more useful scenarios that way, but no... instead we are left with: if you need multi-tasking you hold the iPad in landscape orientation.
Grrrr... I’m angry now
[doublepost=1533321085][/doublepost]Also, rounded corners are fine with me on iPad. Looks stupid on iPhone but that’s just another reason to stick with my SE.
Seems like they're on a mission to cover up more and more of the display with notch then rounded corners. What's next?
Why do we need rounded corners on a tablet? If the case is square then rounded corners seems like poor design.

What's next? iMacs taking inspiration from the X? Monitors with rounded corners? We knew this since the X was announced. Not a surprise it will take inspiration from the X.
iPad sales have been in decline since 2014. Peak iPhone was probably last year.Lots of sales, most likely.
For those old school MacGeeks, this reminds me of OSX 10.4 and before, where the top menu bar was artificially round-cornered on the old 20/23/30 lucite cinema displays.
I guess I never thought about it because the only time I use my iPad in portrait view is if I’m reading a book.Exactly my point, split view in portrait is mostly useless the way Apple has implemented it. two tall, skinny apps side by side? Wtf
It baffles me this stuff coming from a company that seems to consider itself a champion of meticulous, elegant design.

I'm not sure where you are getting that information. iPad sales grew to 11.5M units sold in Q2, compared to 9.1M the year before. They also increased their market share from 29.9% to 34.9% and grew for the 5th consecutive quarter. I am sorry to break it to you, but iPad's are selling very well. Gotta run, I am off to a Android site to complain about products I don't use.
For those moaning over rounded corners, one manufacturer tried it extreme in the other way- sharp boxes.
Not that appealing.

Well, If your FOV has visible corners, I suggest you to go a eye doc. The Human view is not squared.
Mixing rounded corners with sharp corners in split view is unsettling. It’s not absolutely awful but definitely not ideal.
The recent bump in iPad sales was due to release of the cheap version. It does not change the trend.

Would you also prefer rounded corners for your TV? How about the monitors? Cinema screens?

To make it so that the tablet screen corners were at the edge of FOV, one would need to place the table right on his nose. Since nobody does that, human view has nothing to do with it.
Of course it does, sales are sales. Your data stops at the beginning of last year. I guess that means the last year of growth never happened? iPad sales have been increasing each of the last 5 quarters. It's pathetic that you negate facts simply because you don't like Apple. I never understood why people live on a site dedicated to a company or products they don't even like.
