Furthering on from jonflaire's post:

iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

:D

What about people who made recent mac purchases? The new iMac has been out just a month. Will these people get the apps for free as well?

were they told they were going to get free apps when they bought the new iMac?

The iOS updates to iPhoto and the iWork's suite are showing in my App Store updates on both my iPhone and iPad (both iOS7), but although they are showing as "Pending Updates", instead of saying "Install" on each one, it only said " Open" as if the updates were already installed. But when I tried clicking Open, it was just the old version that opened. Even the "Update All" option is greyed out.

Guess I'll just have to see if the iOS7 auto-update feature takes care of things overnight

So if I update the free versions of iWork on my iPhone 5s and use it to recreate content, am I going to have compatibility issues with iWork 09 on my Macs (which I installed via a disc and not the Mac Store)?

Looks like DVD users are stuffed into repurchasing. Sorry, not worth the (admittedly low) cost to me ATM. iOS versions updated due to recent 'upgrade' from 4S to a 5.

Shame, since Mavericks rocks but the older versions just as functional.

Hopefully they are compatible from iOS to Mac though!

Why? If you purchased iLife '11 thru MAS it's free, otherwise you gotta pay to get to the most recent version.

Not this wahhhh I'm running software from 2009 and I want a free upgrade to the newest and latest

Except we're not running software 'from 2009' So far DVD users have had exactly the same upgrades to latest version via software update/MAS... The new version even is still listed as iPhoto 11 when I just checked...

Aperture is updated to 3.5 as well. I hope this is not the update they were talking about.

Unfortunately, there will be people like myself who bought iLife 11 on DVD before it was available in the Mac app store that will probably have to repurchase it all over again.

Garageband for Mac shows as not available in the US store. I guess it is still repopulating in the store. I'll just have to wait.

If you search manually, it will come up. That's what I did when I came across the not in the US store error.

Dont think Apple can tell the difference of who actually purchased iLife / iWorks vs someone who just passed long the DVD.

If I have to repurchase, I'll just stick with Google Docs. I would convert over, but why pay when I can get the same functions free? No thanks.

I don't recall getting a free upgrade from '09 to '11, had to either pay or buy a new computer.

Those that bought iLife '11 outside MAS have to pay to play. I am one of those people and nor do I expect Apple to give me a free copy of their newest version.
