That doesn't make sense since our phones are already registered with our old phone numbers. They can't just ship us a random phone with the same specs. It has to be the specific phone because it's already been provisioned to activate on our existing phone numbers, assuming it's an upgrade rather than a first-time iPhone.

Not to mention, I've already received an email with my AppleCare+ Proof of Coverage which lists the specific device Serial #. There is no way they can just randomly grab devices off whatever shipment is close. That would throw a huge monkey wrench into the works of the provisioning and AppleCare+ systems.

I spoke with apple this morning. They said I should expect the phone today too...the 23rd. So...here I am waiting at home for another day since UPS can't deliver a package properly. And...due to all the freaky package thieves today, I'm for sure not gonna sign a release for someone to leave it on the doorstep to get stolen.

My latest update from UOS shows departure from Hong Kong after the two days in KR. And apple says delivery today. Who to believe? What to believe?

Go live your life, it's definitely not coming today. The ups tracking will show "out for delivery" the morning you should wait at home.

That would be fantastic if Apple could guarantee the validity of that claim. I've heard multiple people say the same but others are seeing their phones wherever UPS tracking places them. My tracking is the same as yours so here's to hoping we receive our devices today.

I put mine on will call (pick-up at UPS facility) the second the shipping/tracking # was available. For me, it's a LOT easier to just drive over there and pick it up at their shipping hub than play wait-and-see with UPS.

It's funny how many people think that the weather in Incheon matters. They're not teleporting cargo. It has to travel through areas with severe weather. This isn't rocket science.

The weather matters only at the departing location and the arriving location. In between, planes of that size fly above the clouds, so there isn't any severe weather to deal with as any rain is below them. The worst they'd have to deal with is wind turbulence, but advanced radar usually allows planes to change their altitude or go around pockets of turbulence.

And FlightAware says it's a 767-300 and it's about -2 hours and 30 minutes from Anchorage.

Mine's on a 744, 2 hours out of Anchorage and it still says today on Apple's site, My guess it will be Monday for me as well.

Just for funsies, here's my tracking history:

No way it's coming today lol. So glad I was able to snag one on the apple store app last night! Picking it up at 10am :D!

Edit:
I'm not really frustrated anymore now that I know I will have a phone in my hands today, one way or another. Only thing that's irritating is the fact that the package requires a signature...now I have to plan for that whenever it decides to show up.

So if you get a new phone with Apple how does that work? Do they deactivate the phone being shipped?

Well, mine went to Hong Kong before me last night and left now. Looks like UPS has a fleet of planes leaving Asia right now, which will arrive in ANC, get cleared by customs, and then head to KY. Then to us. Am I getting my phone this week? I doubt it. I've resigned to getting it on Monday.

The story told earlier that "contractual obligations means we can only move so much a day" is BS, and it's probably NOT from Apple but from UPS's side. I can see UPS saying "look, we can only move ### tons a day for you." but not Apple saying "oh, just move only a couple tons for us, leave the rest behind for the next day." This one is squarely in UPS's court, and they have failed.

Domestic shipping for UPS seems to be great; haven't had many problems with them for that. But when it comes to shipments from the world, they don't seem to have much redundancy or flexibility. I would suggest that Apple orders some of their own charter flights (or pull a page out of Amazon's book and buy some freighters) and handle the movement of product from China to the US on their own. They can fly it from ZhengZhou or Shanghai to Anchorage, where all the major logistics companies have hubs, and from there it can be delivered by UPS or FEDEX to your door. There's much more capacity from ANC to the US.

As for Saturday delivery, I've seen UPS trucks on the road on Saturdays here in HNL so I think it's possible, BUT remember it's probably NOT available everywhere and it's gotta make it to your local UPS hub before Saturday morning to be delivered. Definitely not holding my breath for this...

Finally movement out of Korea. If I'm lucky, maybe it will be delivered on Monday. But still no delivery date.

After my iPhone 7 plus was stuck in Incheon, Korea due to the "mechanical failure" for a day, I just got an update stating:

"Your package was released by the clearing agency"
"Clearance complete."

Anyone else get this? Is it finally on its way to states? or has it been here in the states and just got cleared by customs?

Update: Arrived in Anchorage at 10:41am

fingers crossed for sat delivery!

Mine says the exact same thing. This is all so crazy but we'll see.

My watch delivered about an hour ago, so no phone today. I'm fine with getting it Monday, but I want my $10 back.

Yours and mine must have been on the same flight. Though UPS told me over the phone that mine was already on a plane from Alaska to Kentucky, so I really don't know what to believe.

Speak to Apple about it. Technically, you are not a UPS customer. Apple is. Only Apple can give you the $10 back.

Lol, what are you talking about???
You get a phone & it can be ANY phone (that works on your carrier)... you put your SIM in it & you're done!
You think Apple is programming them onto your account at the factory?????!

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UPS6063/history/20160923/2101Z/PANC/KSDF If you look at the arrival time this is the next avail flight to KY, it leaves in about 20 minutes.

On AT&T, the phone arrives with a new SIM which gets activated the second you turn on the phone, switching from the SIM in your current handset. This is how my 5S arrived, as did my wife's 6 Plus--the phone does not list as "activated" until you turn on the handset. --No clue if this is the same or different for other carriers.

Anecdotally, I pulled up the SN# for my new phone, and just as I suspected, it lists as "not activated" yet the AppleCare is active. IIRC, the AppleCare enrollment date will switch to the activation date from the ship date usually a few days after turning on the phone. I don't remember how long it took but my 5S did roughly the same thing when it came.

Actually, new sim cards are installed at the factory designed to work with your carrier. And yes, it is registered to the hardware serial number and phone number (therefore carrier).

Huh... you might be right then!
I was basing my opinion off a VERY informative article I read of the logistics it took Amazon to get the Harry Potter books into people's hands on the precise release date- I assumed Apple used a similar system.... whereupon the items are "preshipped" en masse, then labeled at the last moment, to more quickly get shipments where they need to be.
