The 1st Amendment has nothing to do with the US government‘s realm of national security, which is one of the few things the government exists for in the Constitution. Your freedom of speech is not impeded by the removal of an app, especially when Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Whatsapp, etc. all still exist. What would compel Apple/Google to comply is the government’s ability to fine them into the ground, or even seize infrastructure for endangering national security. As for people’s phones, the app would be removed remotely.

Apples and Oranges.
Wait, why am I arguing with a CCP bot?
It absolutely does. The 1A doesn’t just protect speech, it also protects expression. The government forcing a company to remove a product from their store, as well as deleting apps already on Americans’ phones, very clearly curtails expression (and speech, actually). One could also make a 5A takings argument, whereby the gov’t forcing the removal of an app from your phone is an unconstitutional seizure of property.
But I’m not really interested in your guess about the government’s justifications, I want journalists to actually press the people in power over these things instead of just regurgitating their words.
