I have an upgrade due in December and can't make my mind up at all!

The 17 comes in that lovely sage colour and I have no complaints about the 16 beyond my chosen level of storage. A bigger battery, VRR, larger display and more storage for the same cost is a steal.

Whenever I take my camera out I always slap on a 200mm lens, so I feel the call of the 8x on the Pro. I'd shoot nigh on everything at that focal length. My concern is it doesn't fit in my Backbone and my iPhone remains my main gaming device. I wouldn't buy the Max because it doesn't fit my hands. Dark Blue in an orange case all the way.

As a student and practicioner of Product Design I am drawn to the Air like a moth to a flame. The design is the point and its gorgeous. I can live with one camera, a mono speaker and the battery would be better than the 16. It would also fit in my Backbone. The lack of video-out is actually a negative as I like to use my iPhone as a console in hotels when travelling and the screen is a little too large however.

I just can't pick at all.

I was wondering if anyone scored the ProMax going in-store despite the website says that it's not available at store? Planning on returning the Air for the ProMax, but the stores here is currently unavailable.
The answer to this is "yes", but the problem is that it's far from guaranteed today. Apple Stores keep separate stocks of iPhones for online pickup orders and walk-in customers, and the available stock for walk-in customers is not available for viewing online. For the first week or so after release day, it probably wasn't too hard to walk into an Apple Store and score a Pro Max. However, given the current unusual dearth of online pickup stock, it's probably a good guess to say that the walk-in stock is in similar shape.

Complicating your situation is that you're trying to do an exchange, and I have no idea which pile the store would use for exchanges. The walk-in pile? Both?

Damn. Do you live close by to any apple stores in tour area? At this rate you might as well just cancel it and just try to pick one up at the store.
Couldn’t find any silver Pro or Max in 1TB configuration anywhere! Third party stores asks for a fortune in comparison to Apple! Might as well wait

If you've been following G-Funk's saga, they placed an order minutes after pre-orders opened and initially got a release-day delivery schedule. However, they (and others!) have been screwed by Apple moving the delivery date from the 19th to Oct 10-17. At the time, that was the date people got if they placed an order that day -- basically, Apple kicked them to the end of the line.

Hopefully, G-Funk's order won't be further delayed, but I've heard of some people getting delayed by another week. Apple's really screwed the pooch this time.
That’s just it….. I didn’t read the whole thread. I saw his post that I replied to. Based off information in THAT post…. I replied.

I just came back from the Apple Store and it seems like they “do not” have the orange ProMax in stock.

While checking online for inventory, I did noticed that they slowly start releasing one by one of other colors and storage, and I wonder if that is based on pick up cancellation.

So are blue, apparently….
Yeah. I've been trying to track pickup stock availability of the Pro Maxes. 256GB and 512GB models in all colors (even silver) occasionally dribble out to Apple Stores here and there, but I haven't seen any 1TB or even 2TB models in days.

A bunch of Chicago stores have had Orange 17PMs off and on in various storage options since last Thursday.

Right now:

Ultimately the 17, and I’ve had the Air and Pro as well. I’m a “function over form” and practicality guy. So as much as I appreciated the feel of the Air and the “workhorse” nature of the Pro, I just couldn’t get over the fact that the 17 is more bang for the buck than both for me - where the Air’s primary tangible advantage is its feel (and only a slight advantage at that IMO), and the Pro’s primary tangible advantages are the telephoto and slightly better battery (telephoto is nice, but I don’t need it enough to justify a 35% price increase from the 17).

I gave in and went back to the Air. 🤦‍♂️

Evidently I'm a sucker for novelty as well... I still think the 17 is the best bang for the buck, and is great. But I just like the Air better, for really no pragmatic reason. Ultrawide camera is a non-starter for me, so for me the Air's camera is the same as the 17's. Battery life has been comparable in reviews I've seen, and my own experience over a couple of days. But as I said elsewhere, at the end of the day I'm still charging regardless of what phone I have (even with the Pro).

The one positive I've learned about the Air that I'm not seeing mentioned in many places (because it's also tied to a negative) is the screen size. It's like you're getting the benefits of a larger screen, with the weight of a smaller phone. The flip side of that is weaker battery life than most larger phones.

I can't justify the cost, but this choice really wasn't about that. I just decided at this point in time I was going to go with what I liked over what made the most sense and see how it goes... kind of like getting a sports car over a nicer and more practical sedan. Maybe it's like a mini mid-life crisis? 🤷‍♂️ ;)

Shockingly… The Air won for me in the end.

The 17 Pro Max is just TOO big and bulky imo. It felt like more of a compromise and less of a joy, TO ME, using that device than this one.

Yes , And that's probably why my order is still pending !
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this to you but, if you paid (not financed) via a credit card, keep an eye on it. The credit card being charged is an early indicator that the iPhone is about to enter the "preparing to ship" phase (and, sadly, often stays in that phase for 2-4+ days before actually being shipped).

I got a Deep Blue 17 Pro, upgraded from a Deep Purple 14 Pro. Love the 17 Pro, super quick, great colour (although the 3 on offer aren’t my favourites), feels nice in the hand (and nice to not have an absolute fingerprint magnet like the steel was on my 14 Pro!) and it’s a lovely size. Very pleased!

Still a couple of days left. Might be good to contact Apple if it is not shipped by 17th.
I have contacted Apple yesterday and they have indicated that the current dates are estimated only and might be delayed! But !!! They are working on having it shipped as soon as possible , here are screenshots of that conversation:

Hopefully something magical happens and I get my order shipped 🤲🏼

Just checked nothing! No charges on the card
