Just got a phone call from Tim Cook’s office in response to my email, letting me know that they’re working on fixing the orders and that I would be getting it on the 19th.
Mine changed to 9/19 about an hour ago.
I don't know if any iPhones have shipped yet, but I see flight 5x59 from Hong Kong heading to Anchorage
I’m thinking of cancelling mine by Wednesday if it doesn’t ship and pick-up whatever stock they have in store. Is the cancellation immediate?

I preordered from Apple Store with carrier financing through T-Mobile but I feel like I’m going to switch to Verizon within the next couple of weeks based off what my family wants to do.
Will the device be unlocked? Or should I cancel my order?

If I’m not mistaken, all are unlocked except the AT&T variant.
It’s a little over 24 hours since pre orders started. Take a deep breath, my guess is your phone arrives 9/19
My card was charged about an hour ago. Status still says Preparing to Ship. But, I guess that is just in the details at the moment.

I ordered through Verizon. My UPS link says the label was created so that’s why it’s technically “shipped” even though it’s not actually lol
My cancellations were immediate.
But, IIRC, once the order goes Preparing for Shipment, the online option to cancel the order goes away.
ETA: I just ordered a Gold iPhone Air 1TB for my wife. Got 09/19 delivery.

My local store is showing pickup is unavailable. That usually changes on launch day. Perhaps I can cancel and redo the order then? Now that I’ve made the decision, I don’t want to wait until Oct 6 or later. (Truly first world problems.)
if you ordered from Apple directly and aren't doing ISPU, your status won't change to Shipped until your phone clears customs in Louisville, usually around Wednesday next week. But you typically will already be tracking it from China (or maybe India this year!) days before that.
Look, I see that you're new, and I get it, it seems ridiculous. But this thread is a many, many years tradition that comes together every year for iPhone launch to cheerfully obsess over our phones. Every year, someone new wanders in and acts like a grumpy wet blanket, trying to smother our fun, but just know that we are all HERE for the fun, foolishness, camaraderie, support, obsession, etc. So please, make your life easier and just join in and have a good time with us, you're welcome to be a part of it.

We used to do this on the iMore threads before they shut down. I'm glad to see I can continue this tradition here.
Previously there were separate threads for Apple Store purchases and carrier purchases, but even then many carrier orders were mentioned here.
The carriers have shipped their orders from within the USA, unlike Apple Store purchases that will have a tracking number from Asia to the end purchaser.
Carrier phones are unlikely to be in the US at this point, though they may be shipping by now to the carrier who will place their shipping label on the phones once in the US. but they are unlikely to be "shipped" until Wednesday or Thursday as they are not allowed to be delivered until Friday.
I had the same issue. And then when I tried to complete the pre-order of course it gave me the 9/26 date. So I ended up ordering the blue 256 GB, that showed 9–26, because the color really doesn’t matter to me anyway as long as it’s not the Halloween orange. So I said, screw it and then I would get the blue one and deal with the wait. And of course, later on in the day that blue one got pushed to the 19th, happy, happy joy, joy. So my screen still showed what you showed, so I went in there and canceled my silver pre-pre-order, and I will get my blue phone on the 19th still.
Long story short, don’t worry about that pre-pre-order information, it will fall off in a few days anyway, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the phone that you actually did complete the order on. Hope that helps.
