Refresh my memory, didn't they let us plug everything in on the Apple app last year? And then at 5am on Friday we just had to hit enter?

I'm a little confused, I can't directly trade-in to Apple and finance an unlocked iPhone? It's locking me into specific carriers... When did this change? (Last model I financed was a 14 Pro Max)
same here i hope someone has an answer. I did the upgrade program up through the 15PM and skipped last year, but now I loose the option because it says my phone is paid off

geez idk. The Air looks more premium than the pro max! I have 16PM right now so hard to downgrade to the Air but man that PM is not premium looking.
I think that's the idea. Pro seems to be moving in "Ultra" direction. Function starting to take a larger influence relative to form. Like the MBP (and Watch Ultra), it may _actually_ start making less sense for people to buy it when they don't need the trypophobia camera system or multiple days of battery life.

Where there used to be widely impactful UX reasons for users who don't ever use most of the excess of the Pros to still buy it (ProMotion, better screens, etc.), that's diminishing.

I know people don't understand photography very well so i want to explain that this iPhone does NOT have 8x.
Exactly like the main sensor never had 2X.

They are crops of the sensor. They are not in any way photographic modules. It's a fancy digital zoom and it will be no different (as a system) from zooming to 8x with the 16Pro.

BUT Apple is smart. So usually they do this when there's a jump in the sensor size. Because the sensor is bigger there are more details and for this reason the digital zoom has more details and people believe it when they see the new option in the focal lengths. But again, the 5x camera is better but it's still only a 5x camera.

It's important to understand the difference.

Totally agree. In your opinion what does one lose now going Air vs Pro Max. A normal using citizen not editing pics etc.

Debating between the iPhone Air and my usual Pro Max. I'm a gamer, but on consoles and PC and don't play mobile games except word or puzzle games and don't do serious video or photo editing so most of the power of the Pro Max seems wasted.

My only hesitation is the serious camera upgrade for the Pro Max, but, once again when I look at my actual usage patterns I pretty much just view photos either on the phone itself or as screensavers for my PC and rarely take videos so do I *really* need all that camera power? The slimness and lightness is very appealing. Right now I'm 70/30 in favor of the Air but I won't know what I finally do 'til that moment I place the order Friday morning.

I’m trying to remember…I’m on the IUP. If I select to pick up my new phone in store, will I have to turn in my old phone then, or can I ship it later? I don’t think that apple will send me a return label and box if I pick up in store.

I don’t really mind handling the process in store, but I’ll have to get the setup started in the new phone while I’m in store because I won’t have my old phone with me anymore. The setup/transfer works really well when I have both old and new phones at home.

Looks like this year, it's
  • the camera system (ie, are you a normal person who snaps photos here and there or is photography/videography a serious hobby or career?)
  • thermals (same, something like photography/videography a serious hobby or career, or a gamer?)
  • battery life (because you get fewer chances or regularity to charge than the average person, or you use a significant amount of power for ... photography/videography/gaming)
These stick out as the primary reasons that one would really benefit from the Pro over the other options. Of course, if you just love how it looks and love to have all these capabilities even if you don't use them much, that's totally your prerogative too. Plenty of people buy MBPs with 32GBs of RAM to watch YouTube all day. And plenty of people buy the Watch Ultra that have never had an athletic or outdoor pursuit in their lives.

BUT, for the first time ever, if you decide NOT to go Pro, you'll still get the brightest screen, 120hz, a new antireflective coating, flagship-thin bezels, AOD, Ceramic Shield 2, 256GB storage minimum, battery life that meets or exceeds LAST years' Pros, etc. etc. etc.

Financing is only available this year through partnerships with phone carriers. If you are buying without a carrier contract, then it must be paid for in full.

It always amazes me that people come to an enthusiast forum and deride others for being enthusiastic.
Wet Blanket: “It’s just a PHONE, people! Where are your priorities? 😡”

Me: “Well, actually, it’s way more than a phone, but we’re just having fun here, right? The air must be very thin way up there on your high horse.” 😂

no, you can finance through Apple Card, as always. and, the Apple iPUP is prominently listed.

How either of those interact with trade-ins is anyones' guess
