I want a Studio Display to replace my Dell, but I wonder if I will be able to plug my Switch into it?

I found an adapter which may work:

or this “active” version, which gets its power via another mini USB cable.

Will these work? Will anything work?

Has anyone tried a similar adapter with other USB-C/Thunderbolt displays?

And does the Studio Display support DP 1.2 alternative mode?

The cable arrived and I tried it with my Dell U3219Q, and it does nothing. Zero signal. Waiting to test on a Studio Display.

Check out the thread on using HDMI devices with the LG Ultrafine. It’s very likely the process will also work for the Studio Display.

I was actually referring to this thread. Sorry should have linked it when I first mentioned it. The only time I ever really post on this forum is when discussing using DisplayPort with the LG Ultrafine and soon the Studio Display lol. You can find my comments in there as well getting an asus windows laptop to work with a myriad of adapters. If you want I can try hooking up my Switch to my LG Ultrafine to see if it works.

I have a wacom link connector and it doesn't work with HDMI nor Displayport.

I'm going to try a Moshi Cable and see if that works since people report that cable to work with XDR Displays

If anyone has a belkin charge and sync and or Huawei Vr2 cable can you please check if it works?

I just tried with the "USB-C to 8K HDMI Adapter" from Cable Matter (No 201388)) and it doesn't work.
The Apple Studio Display works with my iPad Air 2021 (which has no Thunderbolt Display afaik) so it seems a little weird :(
I believe you have to try using a HDMI to USB-C adaptor. This adaptor is unidirectional that only goes from USB-C to HDMI, and the Studio Display doesn't have a HDMI port.

Did it work for you?

I can't seem to get anything with displayport alt usb c to work

I think I actually need to run the display with thunderbolt, thankfully some of the new AMD motherboards supoort this...

Do you have the original Wacom Link, or the newer Wacom Link Plus? I think only the Plus is known to work with the LG UltraFine, so maybe the Studio Display is the same?

What sources did you try exactly, just out of interest?

Unfortunately I have the new wacom link plus (the silver one)

I used several surface devices (that don't have thunderbolt), an intel desktop pc with USB C (but not thunderbolt). I confirmed that those were able to output via USB c to a portable monitor but the Studio Display still did not turn on.

It's the waking up part of the Studio Display that doesn't seem to work, when I use Wacom Link Plus with HDMI and USB micro b (so that it passes the USB info) the display is detected in windows, along with the orientation sensor as a 2560x1440 monitor (likely an HDMI bandwidth issue) but the display never turns on.

The only device I seem to be able to get it to work on are those that have TB3/TB4

I just ordered a TB4 addon card for my AMD 3090 PC and I'll report back if that works, I'm still also waiting for the Moshi cable (the one that people says work with the XDR display) but I don't think that'll work to be honest.

Stake that, I changed the cable and my surface go (without thunderbolt) was able to turn the Studio Display on with a max resolution of 4k 59hz

So what cable is working? :)
unironically the cable that came with the display, at least in the case of the surface go.

All the cables I was using were thunderbolt cables (one that came with my lenovo dock, an extra long one that I got on amazon) but my guess is it was either picky or windows updated and magic happened. It still doesn't work with the Wacom Link though, but maybe there is hope for that Moshi cable then.

Can all Thunderbolt 3 cables be used as regular USB-C cables? I'm not sure.
I've never had a problem with them, but to be fair I also tested non thunderbolt cables that came with the Wacom link too, my main focus was trying to get the Wacom link to work though, as it will carry usb and display directly from a dgpu.

In respect to the OP even if you could get hdmi to work, the speakers are USB I believe so I don't know how well it'd work with a switch
