Valve NEVER releases ANYTHING on time. Whenever Valve announces a date, assume they are lying. Because they are.

Are you saying that in relation to the 'april' date or this new date? i.e. should I assume that May 12th is also a lie?

Valve had initially targeted April for a Steam for Mac release, and the reason for the slight delay beyond the original estimate is currently unknown.

It's Valve time. Ask any fan of them.

Anyway, I'm very happy that steam is coming to mac. I'll get Portal 2 as soon as it comes out, and maybe l4d to play with one of my friends who refuses to get an xbox....

Hopefully this will also lead Apple to make more options for gamers and throw their substantial weight behind the development of OpenGL, to bring it up to speed and hopefully surpass DirectX

I got into the beta, and I have to say it owns. The games don't work yet, but the application itself is really great.

Then you didn't get into the beta. You merely got access to the beta client, big difference.

The games Valve wants you to test work just fine; though you would know that if you got into the beta.

i just want to say how much i love the "steam play" concept... buy once, play anywhere. all software should be like this.

it is absolutely ridiculous that i have to buy 2 different versions of any Adobe (and most other's) product. insane.

i bought photoshop. it should work on my computer. WTF difference does it make which computer?

and don't get me started on "per seat licenses" ... it's MY application, you idiots, not this stupid terminal's!

Yeah that sucks, I hate that from companies like microsoft (office) and adobe, other companies like steinberg releases their software for both OS at the same time and you have to buy only one license then you could use any os you which and switch over depending on what are you doing.

I'd like that, because it means less booting into BootCamp, but we'll have to wait and see how much third party developers who are on Steam will actually develop a Mac version. Because the only games that will be available for sure, at this time, are Valve's. And that's not much.

And even then, not every developer is on Steam, unfortunately.

Any new game compiled for steam will produce simultaneous Mac and PC versions. Older games may not be ported out of pure laziness on the developers' parts, but all new games will be automatically available on Mac.

Heh; pure laziness? How about a developer not wanting to spend the money and man hours porting then supporting a game?

I forsee Apple making their MBPs a little more gamer friendly in the future. And by gamer friendly I mean a GPU that is worth a damn. Maybe ATI?

Just in time, since my Dell Precision M90 overheats and shuts down after 15 mins of HL2.

This will be cool paying it at my desk on my Dell 3008WFP.

Still not excited for this since most of the computer games I play are not popular overall and rarely are mac compatible and left for dead and call of duty I just play with Xbox and get better performance and online play.

New Portal song

/sing ... the points of data make a beautiful line but we're not out of beta or release on time .../endsing
:D

I think just having Microsoft giving Khronos a swift kick in the you know where has made the OpenGL team scrambling to bring it up to pace.

Look at the OpenGL 4 spec, it has many if not all (?) of the DirectX 11 features.

This has nothing to do with the next-gen iPhone or Gizmodo... I don't care.;)

(sarcasm) :D

Will my iMac run it?

Ok so my iMac is the intel duo-core 2 with the ATI Radeon X1300 256ram on it. Will I be able to run steam and some of the games??
