Will this mean all you Mac lovers are finally going to be able to play all those good PC games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? I think not, just the usual 6 year old content you guys always get. Loving my DirectX, are you?

Thats what my XBox 360 is for.

I don't know if that's going to be worth while...

I used to play HL2 when I first got it on my GeForce TI 4200. :) It'll likely play on most Intel Macs.

Another thing is that I would expect more Mac apps that allow control over videocard clockspeed to be coming out after this. :) There is no real reason why games should run faster in Windows other than maybe Apple has the graphics card underclocked for battery saving reasons. If this is the case maybe we'll see some tools to... remedy... the situation. :D

I'm pretty excited for this! Fingers crossed that my Windows account works!!!

Maybe you're right, but putting an XP partition on my MacBook would also give me way more gaming options in general (for example, I'd like to play through a couple of oldies from my pre-Mac days, like Quake II).

Looking around various fora, it definitely seems that the consensus is that OS X frame rates are way lower than XP. And (I'm guessing here, admittedly), wouldn't a shrink-wrap XP be pretty cheap?

Ahh the TI 4200, thats the card I used to play HL2 aswell, good memories. Was the first graphics card I bought with my own money :)

Your mom loves 6 year old content- keeps her entertained when I'm tired.
:D

Wow, not much fight and only one "Yo mama" joke? You guys are slipping. I wouldn't imagine them not working on something to allow more of those great Steam games to make it to the Mac.

It ran even better than my 5200!!! I read that the XFX TI 4200 (the one that I had) was actually a faster card just underclocked and sold cheaper... So I had that overclocked pretty heavily. As well as my P4 2.0ghz CPU overclocked to 2.2 :D Those were the days! They overclocked so well, I got lucky and happened to pick things that played very nicely with overclocking.

Maybe this will open the door to steam on the iPhone...
TF2 for iPhone anyone?! :D

This is AWESOME!
I think it will change a lot of things! Maybe people will start to see macs more of a gaming platform and start porting more games.

No, but it's still a good start.
After all, Valve *is* a PC Gaming giant.. personally I'm thrilled to see what they can do, especially how good the Valve games are going to run under Mac OS X compared to Windows.

these guys really are just in a league of their own- the HL series are some of my favorite ever, they have excellent artists working over there, and they even managed to pull off some awesome viral marketing here with these teasers. Valve rocks :)

So Badass!

Will we have to rebuy our game for Mac? I want to think Valve would do the right thing and not make us do that, and in doing so kick the **** out of every other gaming company on the planet....

Considering the actual structure of the Steam platform and the fact that this wouldn't not be a good marketing strategy overall.

By structure i mean that already any account can redownload every game unlimited time. (I can even download a Valve game i bought in CD-Rom in a store). They clearly want to make steam purchases the more convenient they can be against a regular in-store physical purchase. This probably will apply to steam account on Mac.

As a marketing strategy, the fact that if you buy a Mac game you are "stuck" to play it on a mac forever is one of the biggest factor that stop potential customer from buying games for Mac OS X. BootCamp is a better option right now because it just don't bind you to the Mac forever. By opposition, the biggest advantage with Steam is the fact that you could buy a game and be able to download it for both platform. That's what make Steam potentially a success on OS X. I think they know that, and thats why i think they will use the same account for both platform.

(sorry about my english...:p)

I suspect you might be limited to purchasing and the Steam community right now. Given the art it points to an iPhone application.

Playing certain games (HL2, TF2, Portal, etc.) on the Xbox 360 is pain. Shooters were meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard. Sorry. :)

In your opinion & with your preferences.
Many many users prefer console controllers.
Different strokes for different folks.

There is no right and wrong and flippant statements by pc users thinking they are somehow superior because of M&K is frankly immature and rather sad IMO.

Here's what I want to know: If I have the PC version, can I download the Mac version? Otherwise, I'm sticking with Steam on my Boot Camp partition.
There's no way to know that yet but I'm willing to bet you will be able to.
Of course third party games that will be eventually offered will have to be green lighted by the publishers first but as far as Valve titles are concerned I'm positive they will at least offer a discount, if not directly give you the Mac version for free, Telltale does this.

I was just thinking... What if this was some sort of ploy? To get Mac users' hopes up and then crush them.

I mean, we all know what Valve said about Mac back in the day...

Valve better make a Mac version.

Do you think we'll ever see this oaf up on stage during some Apple event?
