Playing certain games (HL2, TF2, Portal, etc.) on the Xbox 360 is pain. Shooters were meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard. Sorry. :)

While no-one will deny a mouse can be more accurate than a pad, whether one is better than the other is opinion and not fact ;)

Personally, I prefer the 360's controller.

I was just thinking... What if this was some sort of ploy? To get Mac users' hopes up and then crush them.

I mean, we all know what Valve said about Mac back in the day...

Actually... I don't. Can anyone explain what happened to me? I think I wasn't that much into Macs when this happened.

Anyway Valve has changed, they are even giving the PS3 a second chance after the Orange Box fiasco.
Also, Steam is MUCH more successful now compared to what it was back then, if they spent millions of dollars marketing Left 4 Dead they surely can spare a fraction of that to port some games to another platform.

This is sweet news.

If Half-Life and it's successors come to the Mac, then I'm ordering a 27" Quad-Core i7 iMac straight away. :D

This brings back memories of LAN parties with friends, beer and junk food.

Good news and a step forward, now apple needs to start putting in decent GPUS in thier hardware to promote gaming. Current lineup is crap :(

In your opinion & with your preferences.
Many many users prefer console controllers.
Different strokes for different folks.

There is no right and wrong and flippant statements by pc users thinking they are somehow superior because of M&K is frankly immature and rather sad IMO.

IMHO it has nothing to do with computer gamers feeling superior to console gamers. Specific types of games are made for specific types of control methods.

A lot of people think that they prefer console controllers but that's because they never tried anything else. In the same way people say Windows is better without ever having tried Mac OS X or Linux.

As an example, I wouldn't want to play Quake or Starcraft with two small analog thumbsticks nor would I want to play Megaman or R-Type with a keyboard and mouse.

And before anyone talks about the Wii: it's a special case because its controllers feel appropriate to replace the WASD+Space+mouse combo which is used by first-person shooters. :p

And to stay on-topic, I hope that Valve won't be using Cider or similar. We need native OS X ports, and I hope for Valve that they'll support GMA950, even if it means playing in 640x480 with all details turned down to the minimums. A lot of us with older Mac minis, MacBooks and iMacs (education models?) are stuck with GMA950.

not holding my breath

Lets remember what happened LAST time Valve ported half-life to the mac platform: at 80% they threw up their arms and said "screw you!"

if this comes to fruition like I think most of hope it does...i may just have ot buy a Mac Pro in addition to a MBP...and screw my gaming PC. :p

Will this mean all you Mac lovers are finally going to be able to play all those good PC games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? I think not, just the usual 6 year old content you guys always get. Loving my DirectX, are you?

I think we found the one who rated this negative :D

Do you think we'll ever see this oaf up on stage during some Apple event?

I think Gabe should star in the new "I'm a Mac" commercial :D

Starcraft 64 was a great game, especially if you had a really small tv and tried to play split screen.

I wouldn't say crap but they'd better release at least a dedicated low end card on the upcoming 13". If they stay with the 9400 (with same generation processors) or use only Intel's integrated solution, I will seriously flip out.

+1

I also liked dragging boxes around my 100 zerglings spread around half the map with the analog stick.

Given the art it points to an iPhone application.

I don't see anything pointing to an iPhone application. The "page indication" dots you're probably referring to are the same dots Steam uses on the "update news" popup.

Why would they send out ads for their games parodying Mac ads, "In anticipation of an upcoming announcement from Valve", if said announcement was nothing more than an iPhone app? Seems like a lot of hype for nothing.

That's a possible use for the dots as well but Steam knows more about what hardware Apple users own that the majority of the users.

I don't see them aiming too far outside of the majority on their hardware surveys.

Ohhhh man, I now have a raging chubby and am firmly stuck at my desk for the next hour.

All I can say is that I'd damn well better not have to buy the games I already own in Windows at full price. I could live with a healthy discount, but if Valve wants me to buy these games all over again at full price, then my grudge against them for the mess that is Left 4 Dead will stand and I'll never buy from them again.

What's wrong with them? Oh, you mean the Macbook the mac mini? Well, yeah but the MBP and iMac line is perfectly adequate for gaming.
