They might, it all depends on what you included in your note. I called FedEx customer service last night and asked them what to do since I wouldn't be there to sign. They said you have to call them (like I did) and provide them detailed instructions on where to put the package. Then they said to write a note with the same instructions, also including the account holder's name, shipping address, tracking number, and signature. I taped this note to my door and had no problems, my package is waiting for me when I get home. :)

EDIT: FedEx also said they are not holding packages for pick-up, so if you miss your delivery you have to wait for the next attempt. Not sure if this is all FedEx facilities, or just my local one. This is what I was told when I called the national customer service line, though.

Thanks for the info! Kinda confused about the whole 'unlocking' thing though... i thought GSM was a network through AT&T? or is GSM the network used when travelling out of the country? also, what requirements do you need to be able to unlock your phone?

GSM is the type of network that most of the world uses, except obviously Verizon. If your phone is unlocked, you can just buy a prepaid SIM card from anywhere on the street (they're allllll over Europe), pop it in, and you're good to go! To get it unlocked through Verizon, I'm not 100% sure of the process but you need to have your account in good standing for 60 days at least. Not sure what else..

Thanks for the response. I think I get it but I have another dumb question... what's the point of having it unlocked? To use any carrier that you want, anywhere in the world?

Almost here!

I just received a phone call from Keith, my UPS driver. He wanted to make sure I would be home to sign for my package from Verizon! He will be here between 3:30 - 4:30! What a nice guy!:D
(Although I was jealous this morning as I went by short lines at my local Verizon and AT&T stores!)

Hi Guys, this is my first post but been lurking for awhile.

So, my 32gb 4S is on a Fedex truck for delivery, left at 7:52am but the location it left from is 90 minutes from my house.

I have been waiting for the last several hours and still nothing......

yup! I know if you use Verizon's 'service' in Europe, it's insanely expensive. Something like $1.99 or $2.99 per minute. But if you use a SIM card from a carrier over there (say Vodafone in Greece), it's pennies a minute and you can add money to the prepaid SIM over and over.

Waiting....

This is my first launch day purchase so I decided to work from home for the day while keeping up with the blogs & forums; as of 7:15 this morning, my iPhone was leaving for delivery from the UPS Office about 4 miles from my house....here soon hopefully! Can't wait!

Mine just arrived. However, FEDEX guy said that there were so many orders they were forced to back date some of the deliveries until Monday!!

If you are in the Pittsburgh area, Good luck!!

Got the phone a few hours ago, but the activation process is a nightmare. Still not working. Anyone else manage to get it activated switching from AT&T?

No iPhone till Monday

Not sure if I should be upset at Verizon over this, but I ordered my white 16 gb iPhone at 3 AM on the 7th and just received my shipping notification and it said its in transit and will be here by Monday, the 17th. I pre-ordered it and didn't get it the day of..kinda messed up. :/

the cost of early adoption

wife said the phone got here at 1 pm... but its so windy that when she opened the door, the storm door flew open, broke the release and slammed into our house and completely bent the frame... so there $400 out of our pocket... and to try and stop the door, the UPS driver dropped the package on the concrete.. hope its OK and I dont have to file a claim.

Verizon had used FedEx. Still waiting here, at least it is on a truck for delivery.

I ordered from Verizon and my package is shipping via FedEx but its 12:30 pacific time for me right now and i still haven't received it.

So it's no guarantee that Fedex delivers early.
