I know, it was pretty arrogant of VZW earlier this week to declare that there will be no problems during the launch.

I am going to be laughing at everyone that is doubting Verizon when they really don't have any problems. Remember they have had years to prepare themselves for this. Also im pretty sure that a company like Verizon can afford a few extra servers for a launch of this magnitude.

so is it worse to get a new phone and have an updated version come out 6 months later.....

or

get screwed for 18 months with no option to upgrade at all when everyone else gets to do it every 12 months.

I would rather have the new one come out in 6 months and have an option.

I don't think its a given that an iPhone 5 will be this summer, for anyone. Iphone 3 was missing a few things yet, like the front facing camera, so iPhone 4 coming out was a given. But iPhone 4 is pretty much loaded with all the technologies that the competition's best phones have. There's not much more that you can do to iPhone 4 that makes a refresh critical for Apple. The only thing yet is 4G, but I don't think AT&T or Verizon have the footprint yet for Apple to bother until they are ready.

I mean, has anyone even heard much rumor yet about iPhone 5? This time last year, I remember hearing all sorts of tidbits about iPhone 4. But hardly anything about what might be in iPhone 5. Maybe that's a harbinger.

As someone in the UK..I am amazed at the amount of news coverage this gets….a phone has moved to a new carrier, er…is this news? Its probably got more column inches than the mass protests in Egypt..a sense of perspective required people?

-Covenant.

No one here cares about Egypt.

I'm excited. Should be interesting to see if Verizon can withstand the customer onslaught.

Covenant,

The big deal is.... One of the best phone is now available on the best network.. That is why many people here are all excited.

This is how the Apple's iphone should have been in the beginning.

Nobody seems to realize that in June, when the new iPhone 5 or iPhone 4G comes out, this iPhone 4 will become obsolete.
I have ATT and will have no problem upgrading to a new iPhone 5, by extending my contract for 2 years, since I've been doing since the day the original iPhone was introduced.
ATT is rolling out the 4G network soon. It should be ready by June.
People that buy a Verizon iPhone won't be able to pay the subsidized price until 2.10.2012 and they are gonna be pissed off when in just 4 months their phone is limited to 3G and they can't upgrade for another 7 months... I would be.

And... majority At&t customers that got the iphone 4 recently won't be able to get the next version of the iphone either unless they pay full retail..

Sounds to me like you are jealous... otherwise you wouldn't post such an idiotic post... just break your contract with At&t already and join the best network.

IMHO, this is not about perspective of importance. It's about relevance to the topic which I'm interested in at a given point in time. At this forum we discuss Apple-related topics. Not current events that are happening across the globe.

Well said. The perspective I have is that MacRumors is source for news and information very specific to an area I have a significant interest. Does that mean I lack interest in current events or empathy for those in areas of turmoil--no. It simply means, I enjoy reading about Apple products and choose MacRumors to do so. From a global perspective a phone receiving a new carrier may not be significant news however it is on an Apple specific news site.

You are young so it's OK for you to say you don't care about real things yet are excited about BS.

One day you will think ahead and look at the big picture, you will see that these things happening in (Boring) other countries are really important and alter your existence in ways you hadn't thought about

Ok ...../So ,...No iPhones working in Egypt right now,....Any thoughts ?

Hasn't happened in my 50+ years yet. When you reach my point you realize there is always something happening in one of these backward countries. You can't stress about it. In a week it'll be someone else.

Actually this is news and good news at that for me and others, if you haven't figured that out. A sense of perspective your posting on a mac forum about egypt, Actually Im tired of seeing that mess all over the tv and internet already. If you care so much how about what you consider real news you write some more relevant columns.

Its somebodies job to write the news about this type of stuff so if you got issues with the articles and think they should change their work and start writing about world crisis. Maybe mac forums should start to discuss drug wars in Mexico or Deforestation in the Rainforest particularly madagascar, or how about bleaching of reefs and global warming. I think you few are barking up the wrong tree TBH.

If I could hug an email I would be snuggling my iPhone 4 invite.

It could just br bad phasing, but the email says purchase not preorder. It would be silly to give an extra week if it is only for preorders.

The internet and Cell providers were shut down, ..Kind of big news.

50+ or whatever it might be, this kind of stuff is relevant to everyone.

I will admit that it might be a little off topic.

Apple stock down 7.11 today - markets shaken by turmoil in Egypt, North Africa and the Middle East.

Yes, it's relevant to most everyone.

Apple does a yearly update on the iPhone, there will be an iPhone 5, there will be rumors and speculation (thanks arn), there will be a huge unveiling. iPhone 5 and iPad 2, it's gonna be a fun year!

I like how this site is called Mac Rumors. How is this at all Mac Related? Maybe the name of the site should be changed to ApplerumorsrelatingtotheUSA.com
How about some non-carrier related news?

I'm curious if maybe Apple will pull a "Iphone 4GS" stunt? There really isn't a need for a huge overhall of the current Iphone 4, so maybe by just tweaking it just enough to add 4G coverage, plus a few extra additional features would be the best route to go for them.

Look at it this way- it'd please the people who just bought there Verizon Iphones + it would make it so that people have an extra year buffer to upgrade when it is available to them. Makes sense to me.

Also, is there any word whether or not this is actually ordering or preordering the phone? I think they would have realized the impact of their word choice with the invitation email they sent out, when they specifically said "purchase" your Verizon iPhone.

Any thoughts?

Only thought that I have on it is that if anyone expects to see the pre-ordered or "purchased" phone before the 10th, they're probably in for a let down. Don't get me wrong, I am pre-ordering one and would be tickled to receive it earlier but, doubt it. I think maybe the 9th is a good possibility but, not much earlier than that.

I could be wrong but I think many people are reading into every little thing too literally. I don't see the phones being delivered much before the "general public" gets their hands on them. That would open a whole can of "re-sale worms". The benefit of the pre-order is if you get one in before they are gone, you are assured to have purchased and reserved one before the rest of the people on the 10th who will not be assured a device.

I always think back to 2007 when I started coming to this site to find out more about Macs, since I was planning on getting one, and yes, it became really frustrating when the complete focused seemed to be on the iPhone and not the upcoming Macs. I thought that this site should have been changed to iPhoneRumors.

As for server overload and "shame" I think I've read that AT&T had their issues too. Don't forget you can pre-order on Apple.com too but, not sure what time they're going to start.
Fingers crossed (but not too hopeful) that there aren't catastrophic crashes through this process.

AT&T is not exactly the benchmark for any kind of success -- they botched the pre-order on the 4 that was like this and I remember that they had issues with their own network during the activation of the original one (or at least did at the store I was at).

It is kind of funny that there wasnt a huge uproar over ATTs failed iPhone 4 launch. Of course with ATTs overall crappy coverage and customer service, I guess another botched iPhone launch is expected with them.

There is NO reason (or excuse) that Verizon should mess this up. But unfortunately, I am pretty sure they will and I will have to wait in line on the 10th.

Square Trade

Don't know if you guys have heard or not, but I spoke with a VZW rep not too long ago and they said that VZW's iP4 won't be eligible for VZW insurance. They will only offer Apple Care according to what I was told.

Anyone done their research on what is a good alternative for damaged or stolen coverage?:apple:

Apple Care does not cover theft or loss It does cover the hardware not working, the battery, and you will be able to talk to a apple care rep for 2 years regarding software issues. Square Trade offers a reasonable warranty. You can shop for others.

It would appear to me me that ANY website including the best of them would have issues when being blasted with a million hits at the same time.
