I love it when the big carriers shoot themselves in the foot!

John Legere has said that even if T-Mobile did nothing, the big carriers would take themselves down. This just proves his point!

They won't care. They won't even say goodbye as you walk through the door. In fact, they will probably be glad to get rid of you. You are NO thread to them.

You guys act as if you are due something for free. Grow up and learn about the world. Trust em. Just because you were born doesn't mean you are guaranteed anything from anyone.
And just because we are born stupid doesn't mean we have to stay that way. There are other options out there.

If they raise the price on my plans I am canceling without etf. If they charge me an etf I will take them to small claims court and I WILL win. This is complete bs
They won't. It's only going to happen when that last day of the contract ends. We are going to be hit with that $20 increase. I have two lines with unlimited data and one (my) contract end next year. So who knows if they up the price again another $10 to ween us off.

It sucks, but whatever.

For this price, I have 2 phones on TMobile at unlimited everything. Silly to pay twice the price to me. No service is that good.

I wish I could use T-mobile. My coworker has it, and he can't use his phone at all during the work day, as we don't get T-mobile service here. So no phone calls, texts, emails, nothing. AT&T and VZW both have LTE service in my building. His father is on his T-mobile plan in a rural town in Nevada and he has to sit in one particular spot in his house to maintain a phone call with his son. (You might ask why he sticks with it if the service is so bad, but he is super cheap and just trades off being able to use his phone at work for saving $$) My mother had T-mobile when she lived in Dallas (where it was fine), but had to give it up when she moved to a small town in West Texas, since she couldn't get service in her house there. VZW has LTE in that little West Texas town.

So if you are living in one of the large swaths of rural America, especially in the West and Midwest, T-mobile isn't even close to the same level of service as VZW or ATT.

Half the price, and works perfectly for me in Austin. I used to have AT&T, and the speed is faster here as well.
Sure, we've established that it works fine for you. The point there was that it's not silly to pay more if the cheaper alternative doesn't provide acceptable service for someone, which is unfortunately the case for various people when it comes to T-Mobile.

Solid LTE service here. Happy.
Good for you. But it is not applicable for everyone...especially when factoring the fact that I am living in the suburb of a major city in the US but gets zero signal at my office, school and home with T-mobile where my friends were suspecting I have set up some kind of signal blocker when they visited me...

Does Verizon unlimited allow you to tether ? I know ATT doesn't allow tethering unless u jailbreak.
Yes. Officially it is $30 extra for unlimited hotspot. So $60 today for unlimited data and unlimited hotspot. $80 next month.

You can also put your SIM in any Verizon compatible LTE device and use data. iPad, hotspot device, even Cisco routers with LTE modems. And still use unlimited data without the hotspot feature on the line. You just can't turn on your phone hotspot feature without the feature on your line or a third party app.

This should be fixed with Band 12 and Extended LTE coverage from T-Mobile. Only the newer phones support Band 12 though.

Well, I know folks that have retained these plans don't like it. However, these carriers could have long ago just did away with them. Nothing required that they grandfather anyone, but they did. I've seen posters bragging about using 100's of GB of data a month. It is those that make it bad for those that use it as they should. Nonetheless, you can bet AT&T isn't far behind.

One trick. Set up a non profit within your state. Call VZW Government. Give them your Non-Profit paperwork. Get unlimited data for NP/Government. Very simple. Easy. Unlimited data.

$50 USD for unlimited data on LTE is actually a very good deal! No overage fees to worry about. But then again, typical cable providers offer more than enough data for an equivalent price, right?

Land lines are also already physically in place, and cost very little to maintain.

Also, note: Comcast has a 250GB data cap and has been known to charge customers that exceed it.
AT&T Uverse has a similar cap.

"Unlimited data" only really worked for companies when speeds more limited (which, essentially, limited the amount of data you could transfer and the bandwidth that you could consume).

Better still (taking a page out of John Oliver's book):
Create a church (which is a non-profit).
Meet once a week with others on your VZW plan to discuss how much you believe Verizon should give you lower prices.
Reap tax benefits, accept donations, and claim your house as a parsonage to avoid property taxes!

i have this plan, and i never use more than 6gb - was always hoping it would be worth it once 4k is the standard.. and i'm guessing that's what verizon is protecting itself against.

time to switch out i guess. jerks.

Yes. Officially it is $30 extra for unlimited hotspot. So $60 today for unlimited data and unlimited hotspot. $80 next month.

what state do you live in that the grandfather plan AND unlimited hotspot cost only $60?? my grandfathered plan is around $90 without the tethering option. so $110 next month for me, $140 if i want tethering.

Wait, there is a proper way to use unlimited? Damn, I never saw that in the fine print. What's the proper way???
It's the difference between eating until you're full at an all-you-can-eat buffet versus bringing a duffel bag full of Tupperware with you to take home food for a week "because it's advertised as unlimited." It amazes me how ethics don't seem to enter some peoples' minds.

I use it as intended. With my laptop on the connection. I don't do anything extreme, I just use the internet like I would anywhere else.

Do you know why I believe this is the intended use? They sold me a hotspot feature for an extra $30/mo so I could use the unlimited data on up to 5 additional devices! They still sell this plan too if you have unlimited data, it isn't restricted to those who added the hotspot when the Thunderbolt was released. If they didn't want us using the data for other devices they would have stopped offering this feature!

I'm just quoting the feature pricing. Not the voice or SMS pricing on the line. My line total cost is $150/mo. I have unlimited voice, SMS/MMS, data and hotspot features on the line. The only stuff not unlimited involved international for my line.

How many lines do you have get to be able to do that ?

What qualifies as a Government account? If I'm using a corporate educator discount will I still be raised?

If so, is this plan still worth selling?

Upon further consideration, I think I could absorb the extra costs. Data needs and usage is only going to increase. Given how long it took Verizon to do this price bump, I'm hoping they don't just up the price by $10 every month from now until everyone is off the plan. And if they really decide to do that, then I will leave, but for now, I'll see how I feel when my contracts are up.

This sucks, I've gone out of my way to buy phones off-contract all these years lol

I've been month-to-month since 2013...I do have the $20 "discount" on my Nationwide 900 plan so I guess that will technically cancel it out...It's just a luxury, I'm sure I could get by with a 5-6gb plan but I mean I'd save what...$30 tops, just have to weigh my options out and see what happens.

And this is EXACTLY why I left and have been much happier with T-Mo. Yes the coverage is inferior to Verisuck's, but the fact remains with T-Mo I feel like a customer, whereas with Verisuck I felt like a cow---imprisoned, exploited, and milked for everything I have.

I can confirm it is works. I just did it a week ago.
I did it last night and now its showing that my contract is ending on oct 8, 2017. Now I have two more years of 29.99 for unlimited. I also have to return my 6s today because I'm getting a new one next monday and I'm saving around $500 for the phone.

Agreed to this. At this point in time I am very inclined to say that MR has becomed biased against AT&T. This is clearly front page material, and I don't see this there. However, let AT&T increase $0.01 and this news is all over MR and under BREAKING NEWS

I couldn't agree more! They can talk about annything else but this doesn't make front page??!! Huh really MR?
